Anthony Johnson delivered the biggest shot of UFC 202 when he stopped Glover Teixeira in just 13 seconds Saturday night.

“Rumble” is now the likely candidate to test Daniel Cormier’s reign as UFC light heavyweight champion later this year.

The 32-year-old Johnson (22-5) has now won three straight – all via finish – since an early 2015 loss to Cormier.

“Champions always come back and I’m trying to be a champion,” Johnson said during an appearance on the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. “I will do everything differently (vs. Cormier the next time). I will die to get that belt. I want that gold. I want that strap.

“It was his fight last time; it’ll be my fight next time.”

Just seconds into the Teixeira fight, Johnson saw an opening for his powerful uppercut. When he connected, that was it, as the Brazilian and former title challenger went down in a heap on the canvas.

“He’s a pressure fighter, comes forward and leaves something open,” Johnson said. “It was just my night. He was a hell of an athlete. We both like to fight and we live by the sword and die by the sword.

“Backing up and throwing an uppercut is just what we do.”

Daniel Cormier Calls out Rumble Johnson After UFC 202 Win, Dismisses Jon Jones

Following Anthony Johnson’s 13-second knockout of Glover Teixeira at UFC 202, Johnson immediately called for a rematch against champion Daniel Cormier, who was in the audience. Cormier took to Twitter to confirm he is more than willing.

Following Anthony Johnson’s 13-second knockout of Glover Teixeira at UFC 202, Johnson immediately called for a rematch against champion Daniel Cormier, who was in the audience. Cormier took to Twitter to confirm he is more than willing.

With Jon Jones seemingly out indefinitely and his status as interim champ hard to pin down, No. 1 ranked Johnson, who has won his last three fights since losing via rear naked choke to Cormier in May 2015, is the obvious choice for Cormier‘s next title defense.

Jones’s manager Malki Kawa defended his client, who is facing a possible suspension of two years following a failed drug test prior to UFC 200. Jones had his light heavyweight title stripped after being arrested for hit-and-run felony charges in April 2015. He was reinstated in October 2015 and won the interim belt in April 2016 with a unanimous decision over Ovince St. Preux in his return to the promotion.

Cormier, however, has no interest in a rematch with Jones, who beat him via unanimous decision in January 2015.

With Jones’s future in MMA uncertain and having pulled out of their rematch for UFC 200 just days beforehand, it’s no surprise Cormier has no interest in the nebulous possibility of perhaps facing Jones again someday.

UFC 202 popped off from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight (August 20, 2016). Topped by the highly anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, the card was action-packed from top to bottom.

The main event delivered on the hype, and then some. The “Notorious” and Stockton’s own Nate Diaz went at it from bell to bell. In the end, McGregor triumphed on the judges scorecards. His leg kick-oriented gameplan paid dividends, as his punches dropped Diaz but once again could not put him away. This time though, Diaz’s boxing was hampered by his damaged leg. He fought back brilliantly in round three and looked to be taking over the fight, but McGregor had perhaps the best round of his career in round four to stifle his foe’s momentum. Diaz took the fifth, but ultimately, it wasn’t enough to sway the judges. McGregor took home a majority decision win (48-47, 48-47, 47-47) to set up a possible trilogy fight between the two rivals.

The co-headliner featured the number one and two light heavyweight contenders in the world in Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira, respectively. “Rumble” took care of business early, shutting out Teixeira’s lights with one well-placed uppercut inside the first minute of the fight.

Both Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson and Glover Teixeira were looking to make a statement worthy of a light heavyweight title shot when they threw down in the co-main event of last night’s (Sat., August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was only ‘Rumble’ that made that statement, however, and he did it emphatic, ultra-impressive fashion by knocking out the hard-nosed Brazilian with a perfectly placed right uppercut on the button that knocked him out and saw him wrestle the referee when he did wake back up.

Making a strong case for being the hardest hitter not only in current MMA but all-time, “Rumble” is most certainly deserving of a second bout against current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

Anthony Johnson Shuts The Lights Off Glover Teixeira In 13 Seconds

The fight lasted a whopping 13 seconds and it was Johnson who delivered the pain.

Before I could blink, “Rumble” knocked out Teixeira with an uppercut. He followed it up with two hammerfists, which he didn’t even need. Teixeira’s was so discombobulated, he tried grappling with referee Dan Miragliotta.

Post-fight, Johnson gave respect to current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, but said he’s coming for the belt.

Final Result: Anthony Johnson def. Glover Teixeira via KO (Punch) – R1, 0:13

The wait is finally over and UFC 202 will go down tomorrow night (Sat., August 20, 2016) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Featuring an anticipated welterweight rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor, the event’s hype was blown up to a new level when the two sides got into a bizarre bottle-throwing spectacle at Wednesday’s pre-fight presser.

But despite that buzz, many are still picking the bigger Diaz to beat McGregor again he brutally submitted him in the second round of their first match-up at UFC 196.

Who did we pick to win the two main bouts of UFC 202? Find out below.

Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor:

Mike Drahota:

This is a huge fight for the UFC in not only that it’s arguably the biggest PPV of the year, but also one where the reputation of its biggest star is on the line, at least in some capacity. Yes, McGregor will still be featherweight champion if he loses, but a second straight defat to Diaz will undoubtedly rip away some of his mystique, something that has already happened since UFC 196.

The excuses were there then and they will be there now, so all McGregor can do to quiet the haters is win. In order to do so, he has to keep up a high volume of leg kicks, which Diaz has largely been susceptible to throughout his career. He also has to keep his cardio sustainable by not going for the knockout with every blow on the iron-chinned Diaz. Diaz, meanwhile, is the much bigger fighter, is more experienced and technical on the ground, and looks great after actually having a full training camp this time around.

After the presser fiasco, it would seem Diaz and his team are in McGregor’s head somewhat, similar to Ronda Rousey’s weigh-in outburst before her devastating loss to Holly Holm. I can’t disregard that here. I’m picking Diaz by second round submission.

Rory Kernaghan:

The rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor was boosted by the crazy press conference scuffle earlier this week, but what happens when they really do get it on? It’s quite a tough one, with numerous factors influencing their first meeting.
If McGregor were to show up in the same condition (cardio) as last time, I’d pick Diaz 10 times out of 10, but I don’t believe this to be the case. As we saw from last fight, their styles match very well on the feet, so for me this is very much a gut-based pick.
Going against the grain, I’m going to pick Conor McGregor for the TKO in round three. This wasn’t an easy pick to make, especially considering their last fight, but I just can’t shake the feeling of a revenge knockout in the making here.

Mike Henken:

I must admit that I have constantly gone back and forth with my prediction for this fight. In my opinion, Diaz is without question the more well-rounded fighter. His boxing is crisp and voluminous, and his cardio is second to none which often allows him to implement a pace that simply breaks his opponents.

When it comes to the ground, Diaz’s submission skills are world-class, and I’m not sure that McGregor will have been able to catch up in that department over the last six months. On top of all of these things, Diaz will be coming into this bout on the heels of a full training camp which could make him even more dangerous . With that being said, I’m going with my gut here, and my gut says that the Irishman will get the job done.

Diaz’s path to victory appears to be much clearer, but I think McGregor will come much more prepared this time around. Given that this fight means so much to him, I feel as if his cardio will be better than ever, and his strategy will be on my point. He’ll need to be able stick and move and land combinations consistently for five rounds here in order to get his revenge. He’ll also likely have to keep the fight standing. I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m picking McGregor by unanimous decision.
