Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou is set for his sophomore outing in the squared circle later this year, taking on former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua over the course of ten rounds in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on March 9.

As per an initial report from Ariel Helwani, per Royal Court Saudi advisor, Turki Al-Sheikh, former UFC heavyweight champion, Ngannou will return to the Middle East later this year for a professional boxing match against former world champion, Joshua – with an official press conference between the two slated for later in January.

Francis Ngannou set for Middle East clash with Anthony Joshua

“Breaking: Francis Ngannou vs. Anthony Joshua is a done deal, per @Turki_alalshikh. Ten-round boxing match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.”

Sidelined since he made his professional boxing debut back in October in Riyadh, PFL (Professional Fighters League) signed heavyweight, Ngannou made his first venture to the squared circle in a ten round fight with WBC heavyweight kingpin, Tyson Fury, dropping a controversial split decision loss.

Heralded for his performance in his first-ever professional boxing outing, Cameroonian knockout ace, Ngannou landed a stunning knockdown on the Morecambe native, before dropping a dubious decision loss in Saudi Arabia.

As for Joshua, the former two-time heavyweight world champion is in the midst of an impressive three-fight winning run, compiled over the course of last year, most recently stopping Otto Wallin with a corner’s stoppage TKO win in Riyadh, as part of a ‘Day of Reckoning’ billed card for the country.

Yet to make his promotional bow with the PFL, Ngannou’s most recent outing in mixed martial arts came in the form of a unanimous decision win over then-interim heavyweight champion, defending and unifying his title at UFC 270 back in January 2022 in Anaheim, California. The outing came as Ngannou’s last on his Octagon contract, which expired at the beginning of last year to boot.

Deontay Wilder claims Anthony Joshua would rather retire than fight him did you see how happy he was

Off the back of his upset decision loss to former champion, Joseph Parker over the course of the weekend in Saudi Arabia, former WBC heavyweight king, Deontay Wilder has shockingly claimed that long-time rumored foe, Anthony Joshua was set to retire – rather than fight him, if he beat Parker.

Wilder, a former undisputed WBC heavyweight titleholder, co-headlined a ‘Day of Reckoning’ billed card in Riyadh over the course of the weekend, suffering a one-sided unanimous judging loss to Parker, failing to mount any real significant offense over the course of their 12 round distance.

And in the night’s headliner, Watford-born puncher managed to extend his winning run to three straight fights, landing a corner’s stoppage TKO win over Swedish contender, Otto Wallin.

However, in the days ahead of the event in the Middle East, reports emerged confirming how Wilder and Joshua were set to agree terms on a two-fight deal – if both of them won their respective fights on Friday night.

And in the immediate aftermath of his loss to Parker, with the kibosh now placed on a long-rumored bout between the two, Wilder claims he heard Joshua was set to retire rather than fight him if he won.

“They really don’t want that fight,” Deontay Wilder told 78SPORTSTV.” When I lost did you see how happy he (Anthony Joshua) was coming out? ‘Now I can escape.’ I broke out laughing. I made him able to perform like that. He was like, ‘I ain’t gotta fight Wilder.’”

“The rumor was he was talking about retiring if I won,” Deontay Wilder explained. “March 9., the fight still can go on. But this is a perfect way for them to get out.”

Anthony Joshua lands TKO win over Otto Wallin on stool after vicious performance highlights

Former two-time world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua is in the midst of a three-time winning run for the first time since his second title reign back in 2018, turning in an eventual corner stoppage TKO win following a vicious onslaught at the end of the fifth round.

Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion, entered tonight’s ‘Day of Reckoning’ card in Saudi Arabia in the midst of a two-fight winning run, landing a knockout win over Robert Helenius, which came off the back of a decision win over Jermaine Franklin in a home soil return earlier this year.

Expected to fight former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder with a victory tonight in the co-main event slot, Watford puncher, Anthony Joshua saw those plans hit the skids after the Tuscaloosa native dropped a one-sided unanimous decision loss to common-foe, Joseph Parker in Riyadh.

However, holding up his side of a slated two-fight deal, Joshua turned up the heat early and often against Wallin throughout the extent of their five round clash, particularly in the last of those frames — forcing a corner stoppage after bloodying the Swedish-born, Wallin.
