Tommy Fury’s former rival Anthony Taylor is accusing him of pulling out of the Jake Paul fight due to not being in boxing shape.

Fury recently announced that he was forced to withdraw from the upcoming fight with Paul after suffering from a chest infection and an injured rib. Tyron Woodley will now face Paul in a rematch of their fight earlier this year.

Despite Fury and his team stating that the reasoning for the withdrawal was strictly medical, Taylor alleges that he pulled out after recent partying escapades and not due to anything injury-related.

Taylor made the claims during a recent interview with BetWay Insider.

“It was big John Fury’s decision to pull Tommy out,” Taylor said of Fury. “Big John’s the head trainer and he decides whether Tommy fights or not. I can’t believe it. Big John should have told Tommy to suck it up.”

“The real reason he’s out of this fight isn’t because of some injury, it’s because of his physical conditioning,” Taylor continued. “He was so busy partying with his brother after Tyson won that fight [over Deontay Wilder], that he’s now in no good condition to fight.”

Tommy Fury Hopes To Reschedule The Jake Paul Fight

Tommy is the younger brother of Tyson Fury, the boxing heavyweight champion who most recently knocked out Deontay Wilder in their trilogy.

Fury has been criticized for his lower level of competition in his young boxing career. Entering his most recent bout with Taylor, his opponents held a combined record of 14-174-5.

After announcing his withdrawal from the Paul fight, Fury made his intentions clear that he hopes to reschedule the bout for some time in 2022. As of now, Fury has yet to respond to Taylor’s claims.

Fury and Taylor had quite the heated buildup to their fight on the recent Paul vs. Woodley card but seemed to walk out of the ring on respectful terms after Fury earned a decision win. That appears to have fizzled out as Taylor has made these scathing claims.

Slated to meet in a boxing match following a professional mixed martial arts bout back in January of last year, Taylor looks to move to 2-0 against Avila having bested the Stockton native in a majority decision victory back at Bellator 238 last year. The matchup will come as Taylor’s third professional boxing match, while Californian welterweight, Avila will make his professional boxing debut — having boasted an 8-9 professional mixed martial arts résumé.

Per a report from Ariel Helwani this evening, the matchup between Taylor and Avila is slated to serve as an undercard pairing beneath the headlining bout between the aforenoted duo of Taylor’s training partner, Paul, and past-foe of Taylor, the undefeated, 7-0, Fury.

“Anthony Taylor vs. Chris Avila has been signed for the Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury undercard on Dec. 18.,” Helwani posted on his official Instagram. “168 pounds. The fight is a rematch of a Bellator bout in 2020.“

1-1 as a professional boxer, Taylor made his debut against the aforenoted, Fury back in August as part of the undercard of Paul and former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to the Manchester native.

Returning two months later, Taylor would level up his professional record with a unanimous decision victory of his own over Jose Camargo Cabanez.

Embarking on a two-fight winning streak since his decision loss to Taylor, Avila, a training partner of both Nick and Nate Diaz in Stockton, California — managed to score a pair of knockout triumphs over both Jessy Ebrecht, and Jon Kennedy.

An alum of Combate Global, Bellator MMA, and WSOF — Avila competed twice under the UFC’s banner — suffering a pair of unanimous judging losses to both Artem Lobov and Enrique Barzola.

Anthony Taylor says he made more money sparring Jake Paul for two months than he did in his entire 12-fight MMA career.

The Bellator veteran has been working with Paul in the lead-up to his fight against Tyron Woodley. Despite fighting five times for the Viacom owned organization – facing some of their top prospects in James Gallagher and Adam Borics – Taylor told Betway Insider that the money Paul offered him far exceeded any purse he has received in his career (H/T Bloody Elbow).

“I had the opportunity to fight in Cage Warriors but I couldn’t pass up the money Jake was offering,” Taylor said. “I’m getting paid more money as Jake’s training partner in two months than I made in my whole entire MMA career in six years. I swear to god, I made more money with Jake in two months than my whole MMA career.

“That’s disturbing when you think about it, because I fought for Bellator,” Taylor continued. “I’ve fought two top five contenders in Bellator and I had a good run. It’s time to take it up a notch and fight for the UFC.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to see Paul offer fighters up large sums of cash. The YouTube star has frequently gone after Dana White and the UFC for what he perceives as low fighter pay. He even infamously donated $5,000 to Sarah Alpar to help her train for a training camp ahead of her UFC bout.

As for Taylor, after starting his MMA career 2-5, he has since won five straight, including returning to Bellator and defeating Diaz Bros. protégé Chris Avila. His next bout will also be in the squared circle, as he takes on Tommy Fury on the undercard of Paul-Woodley. Fury is a former reality star who has built up a 6-0 boxing record and has his sights set on a match against the younger Paul brother.

“I’m about to bloody him up. He’s going to be in a dog fight,” ‘Pretty Boy’ said. “He’s underestimating me, he’s looking over me. He thinks he is flying into Cleveland to win and then face off with Jake, but he ain’t even going to see Jake that night.

“When you compare Tommy’s fights to Jake’s fights, Tommy’s fights are embarrassing,” Taylor said, when asked about the pair of celebrities turned boxers. “Tommy fought a guy with 10 wins and 126 losses – Jake would never fight a guy like that.

“He’s not that skilled. I want what he has; the money, the status, everything.”
