Diego Brandao’s Latest Arrest is PEAK War Machine Diego Brandao

(Nothing like starting a fight on camera to avoid looking bad.)

At the risk of inciting his well-documented wrath, we feel compelled to say that TUF 14 winner Diego Brandao might be a bit of a loose cannon. Aside from the short fuse he displayed while in the TUF house, the man has also threatened to stab Dustin Poirier with a pen and attacked a Carnaval reporter on camera in the recent past, which doesn’t exactly speak to the zen-like qualities that martial arts is supposed to inspire.

Brandao’s latest arrest, however, is like something out of a War Machine fan fiction novel.

Details after the jump.

Over the weekend, details started to leak that the TUF 14 winner had been arrested outside of a strip club in Albuquerque for allegedly striking an employee with a gun. According to MMAJunkie, Brandao was arrested on Friday, charged with aggravated battery and three counts of aggravated assault, then released on Saturday after posting the $15,000 bond.

Last night, however, the nasty details of the incident were laid out when Brandao’s public arrest warrant was released (again via MMAJunkie), so strap yourself in for this mess…

According to the warrant, a doorman from Knockouts, Anthony Romero, told police Brandao had been arguing with the club’s DJ and appeared to be intoxicated. He left the bar and attempted to return, but was denied because of his intoxication.

“Hey puta, the next song that comes on better be Scatman John or I’m going to lose my shit!”

It was then that Brandao allegedly tried to punch his way back into the bar and wound up fighting four employees – including the DJ – before Romero pushed him out and then locked the door into the club.

Another bouncer, Lavon King, identified Brandao as “the UFC guy” that had previously visited the club several times and confirmed his identity when a dancer showed him a picture on her phone. The bouncer was outside Knockouts with another bouncer, Patrick Otero, and he saw Brandao drive his car off the parking lot and move it to a nearby street corner.

Wait, the club is called Knockouts? I’m going to assume that this whole incident can be traced back to Brandao’s inability to understand double entendre, then.

Then, Brandao allegedly exited the car carrying a gun and pointed it at the group.

(Brandao) pointed the gun at (King’s) chest and yelled at the group. Lavon stated that Diego then pointed the gun at Patrick’s face and then struck him in the face with the firearm.

Lavon stated that (Brandao) pointed the gun at the three of them again and then went back to the vehicle. Lavon did state that he was in fear of losing his life during the altercation.

Romero told police as soon as he heard Brandao allegedly had a firearm, he escorted other bar patrons inside to take shelter.

Man, how long do you think it will be before MMA is re-banned in Albuquerque? “You’re not safe on the roads, you’re not safe in the strip clubs…what’s next, a turf war inside the Stop n’ Shop?!”

Patrick stated he tried to calm Diego down and reason with him, but Diego turned the firearm to him and pointed it at his head. Patrick stated he put his hands up and noticed the other two subjects run behind Patrick’s car for cover.

Patrick stated that Diego asked him why he didn’t help him and hit him with the butt of the firearm on his chin. Patrick stated Diego then walked back to his vehicle, and pointed the firearm at the three of them one more time prior to leaving the area.

I’m just sayin’, Thiago Silva would have applauded Brandao’s restraint.

The UFC has of course released their obligatory statement on Brandao’s arrest, which you can check out below.

“We are aware that UFC featherweight Diego Brandao was arrested Friday following an altercation at a business establishment in Albuquerque, N.M. We are in the process of gathering more information at this time. While we are concerned by the nature of the reported allegations, it is important to note that Brandao is entitled to due process in a court of law. We will have no further comment until more information can be gathered.”

With Brandao currently serving a suspension for a positive marijuana test administered following his loss to Brian Ortega at UFC 195, you’d imagine that this would be the last straw for the troubled featherweight. Then again, the UFC needed video evidence of Thiago Silva actually committing his crimes before they were willing to let him go, so who knows what lies in store for this idiot.

More on this as it develops.

Jason “Mayhem” Miller Books Fight With Luke Barnatt, Immediately Gets Arrested

(Well, at least Miller’s training for what awaits him in prison.)

If you ever find yourself in a heated discussion about the American justice system, look no further than the case of Jason “Mayhem” Miller as proof that it might be in need of some retooling. The former Strikeforce/UFC fighter has been arrested no less than half a dozen times in the past couple of years for various degrees of assault (some on women, others on police officers) and yet continue to roam free from the only cage he actually belongs in: a jail cell or padded room. It’s a statistical anomaly, really.

But because MMA promoters do not care one bit about the wellbeing of their fighters, it was announced a couple days back that Miller would be returning from his self-imposed retirement/exile/whatever to take on Luke Barnatt at Venator FC III in Milan, Italy on May 21st. It was, in a word, saddening.

Even more saddening, as it turns out, is what Miller did immediately after booking the fight…

It was, in a word, saddening.

Even more saddening, as it turns out, is what Miller did immediately after booking the fight…(via MMAFighting):

The troubled Miller was arrested the morning of Feb. 7 in Irvine, Calif. for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Orange County public arrest records. He was released later that day and is due to appear in a local court on March 7.

According to a report published on TMZ.com, because of Miller’s past history of violence toward law enforcement, approximately 15 police officers and a K9 unit were on hand for his arrest in Irvine, although there was no physical confrontation this time.

The cherry on top of this shit sundae? The video below, wherein a drunken Miller fails to recall the name of the man he is supposed to being facing while announcing the damn fight.

“I have to announce, I’m gonna fight again,” says a visibly inebriated Miller, whose voice sounds like he’s been huffing inhalants non-stop from the moment he finished taping his segment for Real Sports.

“I’m fighting Josh Barnett…for the the title of…Venator FC or PC of LMNOP. Catch wrestling is nothing compared to monkey Jiu-Jitsu.” It only gets worse from there.

Come to think of it, this video was more than likely shot directly before Miller was arrested, which gives you a little insight as to the kind of people he has allowed to drag him from the bright lights of the UFC into the deepest, darkest cesspool of humanity (looking at you, guy in Superman shirt).

The recent arrest and mental state of his opponent aside, Barnatt seems to be under the influence that this is a fight we should care about, and has already taken to Instagram for a little preemptive trash talk.

Eesh, talk about kicking a guy while he’s down.

Honestly, we don’t even know who to be more disappointed in, Venator for booking this fight or Barnatt or accepting it. We get that a paycheck is a paycheck, but shouldn’t the line be drawn when it comes to fighting the mentally unstable? Miller has been spending more time in a jail cell than anywhere else since his last fight — which was in 2012, for what it’s worth — and if the video above is any indication, we’re going to assume that he’s all but completely withdrawn from training. The likelihood of “Mayhem” making it to this fight or even making weight for it are slim-to-none, so what can Barnatt possibly expect to gain from this fight (except maybe Hep C)?

We’d like to think that the fight will be scrapped in light of Miller’s arrest and/or this video, but who are we kidding? Bellator has probably already promised the winner a contract. To recap how everyone involved in this story should feel:

Following Jon Jones‘ most recent traffic-related mishap — which saw “Bones” break a pregnant woman’s arm in a 3 car accident, flee the scene, get stripped of his belt, slapped with a 6-month suspension from the UFC and 18 months of probation — it seemed as if the troubled champion maybe, finally, had seen the err of his ways. He spoke with yoots about the dangers of…being a moron, I think, and attempted to explain himself in a lengthy interview with Ariel Helwani. He seemed remorseful…honest to God remorseful.

Or at least, that’s how it appeared. Cut to end of last month, when a clean and sober Jones still managed to find himself on the wrong end of the law do to, you guessed it, a vehicle-related offense.

Details after the jump.

Specifically, Jones was cited by a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputy for driving without a license, registration and insurance on Jan. 31. Albuquerque’s KRQE News 13 first broke the news late Sunday night, claiming that Jones would appear in traffic court on Wednesday.

Of course, with Jones’ return bout against Daniel Cormier having recently been made official, media members began to speculate whether or not his latest infraction would result in a violation of his aforementioned probation, once again landing “Bones” in hot water. Fortunately for Jones, it appears that it will not, as Jones’ rep told MMAJunkie that Jones was “fully licensed and insured.” Jones’ manager, Malki Kawa, followed up in an interview with The MMA Hour, stating that Jones’ violation was “not a big deal.”

Earlier today, Jones’ punishment was handed down for what has been labeled “failing to report police contact and tickets,” via MMAFighting. The punishment in question? Three days of community service.

Bernalillo County district attorney spokesperson Kayla Anderson, though, said that the DA would not pursue formal probation violation charges again Jones.

Anderson said that any sanctions on Jones would come from the Probation & Parole department, which falls under the New Mexico Corrections Department. That department did not seem Jones’ citations worthy of any additional punishment, adding the three community service days only because Jones failed to report his police contact and traffic tickets.

In case you’re wondering, the man himself doesn’t seem all that busted up about it. First, he took to Twitter to poke fun at us media types who might consider his repeated run-ins with the law “newsworthy.” You know, like a bunch of goofs.

Nest, he went on Instagram to further taunt us in an Allen Iverson-esque rant.

“I’m about to win a title in a few weeks and they’re talking about tickets.”

Let me stop you right there, Jon. On a surface level, you’re right, we’re probably devoting far too much thought to the fact that you were pulled over and cited for a minor (and common) infraction. What you seem to be misunderstanding, however, is that what seems to be driving this story is:

1) Your lengthy history of vehicle-related infractions
2) Your apparent lack of remorse for said infractions, and
3) Your complete inability to learn from them

You see, Jon, you’ve been establishing something of a pattern in recent years, which leads many of us to believe that it will only be a matter of time before you slip up again. For the sake of both yourself and the unknowing drivers you may harm during one of these slip-ups, we’d prefer to see you keep off the roads entirely, hence our concern when your name pops up in even the most minor of vehicle-related citations.

And look, I get it, we’re only covering your latest infraction to drive up (excuse the pun) hits on our websites, not because we actually care about the next person you might sideswipe. But at the same time, does Uber not exist in New Mexico? Lyft, maybe? Does a guy with as much money as you, and one with such a clear history of driving-related incidents, really need to drive everywhere he goes? It just seems like common sense at a certain point.

In any case, Jones’ rematch with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will still go on as scheduled at UFC 197.

Nasty, Testicle-Obliterating Details Emerge From Julianna Pena’s Barroom Brawl Arrest

(Don’t make Julianna angry. Your balls wouldn’t like Julianna when she’s angry. via Pena’s Instagram)

They say that Christmas is the time of giving, and for the most part, it’s a motto that most of us try to live by when the holidays come around. Take TUF 18 winner Julianna Pena, for instance, who seemed to be in a giving mood while hanging out with bantamweight Josh Gow outside a bar in Spokane, Washington over the weekend. Unfortunately for the recipients of her generosity, the things she was giving out were hellacious, manhood-obliterating kicks to the groin.

As such, Pena was hauled in by Spokane PD, and the nasty details regarding her arrest have started to leak.

Unfortunately for the recipients of her generosity, the things she was giving out were hellacious, manhood-obliterating kicks to the groin.

As such, Pena was hauled in by Spokane PD, and the nasty details regarding her arrest have started to leak.

According to Deadspin, Pena and Gow had been involved in a “20 person brawl” outside the Globe Bar and Kitchen which resulted in Gow being bloodied. When a visibly intoxicated Pena entered the Globe to use the bathroom and clean Gow up, she was denied by an employee and became “irate.” Then this happened, according to an eye witness:

If Gow’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he was allegedly the fighter who “attacked” Pena at the gym and caused the “gruesome” knee injury which kept her out of action for two years following her TUF Finale win. So he seems like a swell guy all around.

As of Monday, Pena’s name has no longer been listed on the Spokane County inmate roster, and the UFC has yet to comment on her arrest. If I were to take a guess as to what their response will be, however, I’m going to go with the classic “We are currently investigating both sides of the issue” standby. Because we all know that the UFC”s investigatory team leaves no stone unturned.

The life of a ring girl is a surprisingly mysterious one, as we’ve come to learn, chock full of tumultuous relationships, betrayals, and secret double lives a pornstars. Being tasked with maintaining such a flawless physique and appearance on a 24/7 basis creates a kind of powder keg situation in the workplace, which unfortunately, usually explodes long after the octagon-shaped cards have been put down. In short, there’s a reason that Showgirls was the massive box office and critical success that it was, and it’s because it resonated with us.

That being said, this report coming out of Los Angeles involving longtime UFC octagon girl Brittney Palmer is easily the most insane/disturbing piece of ring girl news we’ve ever seen.

That being said, this report coming out of Los Angeles involving longtime UFC octagon girl Brittney Palmer is easily the most insane/disturbing piece of ring girl news we’ve ever seen.

According to (ick) TMZ Sports, Palmer’s husband, finance expert Aaron Zalewski, was arrested on attempted murder charges last night following a scuffle with Palmer in their Los Angeles home last month.

In docs obtained by TMZ Sports … LAPD says things got physical when they wrestled for her phone — Zalewski noticed she was recording the argument, and during the struggle he threw Palmer, and she hit her head on a bedpost.

Brittney told cops Zalewski yelled, “Pack your f**king bags and go!”  – but wouldn’t let her leave. She says he threw her down again — pinning her face down on a mattress, with his knee in her back. She says she struggled to breathe for 2 minutes while he held her down.

And there’s this — Brittney says during the fight Zalewski scratched his own arms and yelled … “Why are you making me do this? I just wanted you to love me.”

Jesus, that is some Marky Mark in Fear-level craziness right there.

Thankfully, Palmer managed to escape their residence and immediately called the police. Zalewski was then charged with attempted murder, spousal battery, and criminal threats, but was released on $1 million bail the next day.

Our heart goes out to Brittney right now, and we’ll continue to keep you updated as information is made available.
