Artem Lobov has explained exactly what happened during his now-infamous clash with Khabib Nurmagomedov and his cronies. ‘The Russian Hammer’ was cornered by Khabib and a group of men during UFC 223 fight week back in 2018.

A clip of the incident began to circulate online and prompted Conor McGregor to fly into New York to protect his friend.

The Irishman turned up at the UFC 223 media in pursuit of Nurmagomedov and ended up throwing a dolly through a bus window, injuring some of the people on board.

During a recent interview with Severe MMA, Lobov explained that ‘The Eagle’ acted differently when he was alone compared to when he was with his friends.

“Khabib then came up to me alone and he started saying all this to me, ‘What are you saying?’ I said, ‘Khabib hold on a second. If somebody would call your brother a chicken, would you have answered something to him?’ And he was like, can’t really say anything cause he knew I was right. So he turned around and went away,” Lobov said.

“So I picked the phone back up and continued my interview. But then a minute or two later Khabib comes back with fifty… I don’t know whatever, how many guys were there,” Lobov continued. “He comes back and suddenly he is changed. Now I’m telling him the exact same thing again like, ‘You would have done the same thing.’ And he is asking me the same question over and over.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Artem Lobov Has Now Retired From Fighting

The now-former fighter, who was affectionately nicknamed ‘The GOAT’ by fans, has also recently opened up about his decision to walk away from the sport. Lobov explained to Ariel Helwani that his decision to retire was not an easy one and meant confronting some tough truths.

“When I retired, I finally had to come to this point, where I had to say to myself, ‘well that’s it. You will not achieve those goals, it will not happen for you. You weren’t good enough You didn’t manage to get where you wanted to get. This is it now for you as a fighter, time to hang it up Artem. Bye-bye. So, that’s why it was an emotional time for me and I wasn’t really ready yet to talk about it,” Lobov said.

Artem Lobov recently retired from combat sports, but he’s still receiving big offers.

After Lobov suffered a TKO loss to Denys Berinchyk in a bare-knuckle fight, the fan-favorite announced his retirement from combat sports. Although Lobov didn’t have the best record, he always looked to fight the best fighters around and always put on entertaining fights.

With that, even though he is retired, Lobov says he is still getting big offers to fight and end his retirement, but he isn’t interested in doing that.

“I still have offers. There are still offers in my inbox. And actually, I’ve got some of the better offers since I retired,” Lobov said on The MMA Hour. “I couldn’t even believe it. Some offers were coming up to like, nearly half a million, some of the offers I’ve been getting. I’ve got some sh*t offers as well, but I’ve got a lot of offers. But I gave myself a promise, ‘Artem, you will not go back in there, no matter what.’

“Very difficult (to say no to them). The thing as well, all this has been like, with some YouTubers, you know, in Russia, I’ve had an offer from Poland as well, to box a YouTuber there,” Lobov continued. “So it’s kind of like, I used to fight really tough guys for 100 euros, 500 euros, now I’m getting offered to box exhibition bouts against guys that aren’t even that good, and I have to turn it down. But I have to be like, ‘Are you a man of your word, or are you not a man of your word?’ That’s what I ask myself.”

Artem Lobov ends his career with a professional MMA record of 13-15-1 and one No Contest along with a bare-knuckle record of 2-2. He also went 2-6 inside the Octagon but headlined a Fight Night card, thus showing his star power. In his career, he did beat Paulie Malignaggi in BKFC and holds decision wins over Chris Avila and Teruto Ishihara inside the Octagon.

Artem Lobov has been talking about his retirement from fighting and why he had such a tough time after walking away from combat sports for good.

The fan favourite was affectionately nicknamed ‘The GOAT’ but never quite lived up to his moniker. Lobov retired from fighting with an MMA record of 13-15-1 and one No Contest along with a bare-knuckle record of 2-2.

After his most recent loss, a TKO defeat to undefeated boxer Denys Berinchyk, Lobov called time on his career and has been radio silent until yesterday.

“When I retired, I finally had to come to this point, where I had to say to myself, ‘well that’s it. You will not achieve those goals, it will not happen for you. You weren’t good enough. You didn’t manage to get where you wanted to get. This is it now for you as a fighter, time to hang it up Artem. Bye-bye. So, that’s why it was an emotional time for me and I wasn’t really ready yet to talk about it,” Lobov said on The MMA Hour.

Artem Lobov Says It Would Take Huge Money To End His Retirement

Lobov has not retired out of a shortage of fighter offers. In fact, the man himself says the offers have gotten better since he called it a day.

“I still have offers,” Lobov said. “There’s still offers in my inbox and actually, I’ve got some of the better offers since I retired. I couldn’t believe it. Some offers were coming up to nearly half a million… There were some sh*t offers as well but I’ve got a lot of offers.

‘The Russian Hammer’ says only two things could end his retirement. A fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate or a million-dollar payday.

“There’s only two ways I go back to fighting, as I mentioned before,” Lobov continued. “The (Zubaira) Tukhugov fight. That goes without retirement. I don’t care if I’m retired or not, I always want that fight no matter what. And, if someone wants to make my dream come true and offer me seven figures, well then it’s going change things up a lot.

Paulie Malignaggi is convinced that his bare-knuckle boxing loss to Artem Lobov was a direct result of the bias of “MMA judges.”

In 2019, Artem Lobov pulled off a stunning upset when he defeated former boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi at BKFC 6. What made the upset less shocking, aside from Artem Lobov being the GOAT, is the fact that the world of bare-knuckle boxing was unchartered territory for Malignaggi. Looking back, what makes the outcome completely unsurprising for Malignaggi himself is his belief that the fight was rigged against him from the start.

“By the time we got to [the fight], I feel like a lot of the MMA community railed against me,” Malignaggi said on The Daru Strong Podcast. “And it’s funny because I didn’t find out it was gonna be MMA judges until the night of the fight. I went to the back, I was getting my hands wrapped, and they told me like, ‘Yo, you gotta take a picture for your license…and they’re like, ‘Nah, it’s gotta be an MMA license…because technically, this is MMA.

“I should have realized right there that it’s gonna be MMA judges. But in the moment, I’m there; it’s whatever. But looking back now when I didn’t get the decision, I’m like, ‘Yo, that was MMA judges. That’s why he came back and told me that.’  So looking back, that ended up how it went—and yeah, I broke my hand.”

Malignaggi has not competed since this loss to Lobov. As for Lobov, this victory over Malignaggi would serve as the final one of his career. The Russian announced his retirement earlier this year following a bare-knuckle boxing loss to Denys Berinchyk.

Artem Lobov Paddy Holohan

It didn’t take long for Artem Lobov to tip-toe his way back into the fight game, after recently announcing his retirement as a professional fighter. Lobov will compete against Paddy Holohan in a wheelchair boxing match for charity later this year.

Lobov signed up for the bout with Holohan over the weekend just weeks after his old teammate, UFC star Conor McGregor, expressed his desires to compete in a charity wheelchair boxing match in the near future. Comedian Steveo Timothy was the first to announce the news.

“What a day, what an experience!” Timothy tweeted. “The absolute gentleman [Artem Lobov] invited me up for a bit of training ahead of my fight with [Irish Olympian Paddy Barnes] and it was immense. And not only that, but he will now take part in the charity wheelchair fight against none other than [Paddy Holohan].”

After a brief run-in bare-knuckle boxing, Lobov opted to retire after a long career in combat sports. Despite a losing record of 13-15, Lobov was a massive fan favorite and also trained at SBG Ireland with McGregor, Charlie Ward, and others.

Lobov will fight against Holohan, who retired from fighting himself in 2016. Holohan now works in politics in Dublin, Ireland, and even ran for the mayor of Dublin last year, falling short in the elections. Holohan briefly fought in the UFC and accumulated a 12-2 record, getting submitted in his final outing against Louis Smolka in Oct. 2015.

While Lobov and Holohan won’t be returning to professional fighting anytime soon, it’s great to see them representing the sport and competing for a good cause. The event will most definitely help those in need in Ireland that don’t have the resources to get a wheelchair themselves. Lobov will more than likely compete in multiple events going forward.
