Belal Muhammad claims Colby Covington is the easiest fight in the division UFC

In the midst of an impressive 10-fight undefeated streak, surging welterweight contender, Belal Muhammad has claimed that former interim titleholder, Colby Covington is “the easiest fight in the division” – as he clamors for his eventual shot at divisional spoils.

Muhammad, who has landed victories in each of his last five Octagon outings, most recently turned in an impressive, and rather one-sided unanimous decision win over former title challenger, Gilbert Burns at UFC 288 back in May of last year.

As for Covington, the current number two ranked contender and former interim welterweight titleholder, has yet to return to the Octagon since March of last year, then handing former title challenger and arch-rival, Jorge Masvidal a one-sided unanimous judging loss of his own.

Expected to make his Octagon return against champion, Leon Edwards at either UFC 294 in October in Abu Dhabi, or UFC 295 in New York, respectively, Covington has been slammed for returning to competition in a championship pairing.

Belal Muhammad fancies his chances in fight with Colby Covington

Himself clamoring for a rematch title fight with Birmingham native, Edwards later this year, Muhammad has described Covington as the most straightforward and easiest fight at the welterweight limit.

“I think Leon (Edwards) would be a harder fight,” Belal Muhammad told WGN News during a recent interview. “I think Colby’s the easiest fight in the division. I think that he’s got up to where he’s at just because he talks a lot and he had Donald Trump in his corner with him.”

“For Leon Edwards, he’s where I’m at, he’s on a long winning streak,” Belal Muhammad explained. “He’s on a 10-fight winning steak, same way as I am. I think I want that one more just because the taste the last one left in my mouth. There was unfinished business, there was no ending to that fight, and I just want to know what would happen in that fight.”

Over the course of his impressive 10-fight undefeated run, Muhammad has landed notable victories over the likes of Demian Maia, Stephen Thompson, Vicente Luque, Sean Brady, and the aforenoted, Burns.

Daniel Cormier

Daniel Cormier may be a legend in the sport of mixed martial arts, but the man can’t shoot a lick, according to reigning light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill.

Appearing in a video on his YouTube channel, ‘Sweet Dreams’ shared the story of a basketball game that featured himself, welterweight standout Belal Muhammad, and UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, who decided to show up with a group of ballers ready to take down the UFC’s best on the hardwood.

“Last year, we played a basketball game. International fight week, thought it would be good to get the fighters together and play a game, but no, Daniel Cormier had other things in mind,” Hill said. “Daniel Cormier decided to show up with actual hoopers, and even with this move, one game…failed. Run it back the second game. Despite my efforts and scoring pretty much all the points, they was able to win that game.”

From there, Jamahal Hill directs us to an interview between DC and Belal Muhammad ahead of UFC 288. During their conversation, Cormier brought up the basketball and briefly put the spotlight on himself, making himself sound like the second coming of Scottie Pippen. Cormier even went so far as to compare himself to NBA legend Michael Jordan while cutting in a clip of him making a layup against Muhammad.

Jamahal Hill Exposes Daniel Cormier

Jamahal Hill remembers that basketball game very differently and was quick to call out Cormier for twisting the truth and cherry-picking footage.

“You see now clear that this man will stop at nothing. Manipulation of footage, Belal, the man is in the middle of a weight cut. He just got done cutting weight. He’s a little beside himself; he’s not remembering things 100% clear, and DC uses this time to score in and lie about a victory. We have real footage of how Daniel Cormier looks on the basketball court. Imma take a break. Let’s roll that” (h/t MMA News).

Belal Muhammad recognizes that there will be a life for him after fighting and he wants to be as healthy as possible to enjoy it.

‘Remember the Name’ is fresh off an impressive unanimous decision victory over one-time UFC title contender Gilbert Burns last month, securing his spot in line for a welterweight title opportunity. When and where that takes place is yet to be determined, but Muhammad will likely be waiting a while as reigning champion Leon Edwards is first expected to defend his title against the always-outspoken and often-controversial Colby Covington.

In the meantime, Belal Muhammad is staying active in the gym and readying himself for an opportunity that many feel is long overdue. Recently, Muhammad appeared on 670 The Score, to discuss his career trajectory, including life beyond the Octagon. During their conversation, ‘Remember the Name’ showed some respect for undefeated boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and his style of fighting that, while not always the most exciting, favored his health and longevity above all else.

“For me, I’m a big striker. So I like to make people miss and hit them,” Muhammad said of his fight style. “Like [Floyd] Mayweather said, the point of the best boxers is that that they don’t get hit. The best boxers are defensive, right?

Belal Muhammad is Not Interested in Throwing Caution to the Wind

“I think that’s where a lot of people get it wrong,” Muhammad continued. “They want the blood and the guts, but you know there’s a life after fighting. So, you’re going to take all these big shots in a fight just to put on a fight for the fans. Be like ‘Oh yeah, I’m bleeding, this is cool!’ but after the fight, how does your body feel? How does your mind feel?” (h/t BJPenn.com).

Belal Muhammad has amassed an impressive 14-2 record inside the Octagon since making his promotional debut in 2016. ‘Remember the Name’ is currently riding a nine-fight win streak including wins over Sean Brady, Vicente Luque, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, and Demian Maia.

Meanwhile, the man that has seemingly leapfrogged him for a welterweight title shot, Colby Covington, is 2-2 in his last four and has zero wins against any fighter in the welterweight division’s current top-15.

UFC welterweight, Belal Muhammad makes a comparison between Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor, claiming both just make claims on Twitter.

With his recent win over Gilbert Burns, Belal Muhammad is in a prime position to challenge for the welterweight title. However, with Chimaev’s next fight rumoured to be against former champion, Kamaru Usman, a win for him could also see him with a strong case for being the next challenger.

While speaking to The Schmo, Muhammad revealed that he was skeptical that the Chimaev vs. Usman fight would take place. He also took the opportunity to criticize Chimaev, commenting on his regular social media callouts and drawing comparisons to former champion, McGregor.

This new Twitter age is kind of annoying. Khamzat’s one of the guys, kind of like Conor McGregor,” Muhammad began. “He wants the attention, so he’ll throw out a random tweet here and there, but nothing ever comes of it, right? So, when they say that (Chimaev vs. Usman), I’m like, ‘Bro, that fight’s not happening.’ They’ll talk about it, both say something about it, and then there won’t be nothing else.

“You’ll see, ‘Khamzat’s gonna fight this guy! Khamzat’s gonna fight that guy!’ So, I think it’s literally just talk to stay in the news, stay relevant. If Khamzat makes 170 (welterweight), that would be a great fight. But I doubt he could make 170.” (H/T MMA News)

Chimaev is expected to return on the October pay-per-view card in Abu Dhabi which which will mark over a year since his last fight.

As for Muhammad, he is staying ready and has recently been training under the eyes of UFC legends Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, and Khabib Nurmagomedov at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.

Former duel-weight champion, Conor McGregor has criticized what he described as a “piss poor” fight between Belal Muhammad and one-time welterweight title challenger, Gilbert Burns at UFC 288 in a co-headlining, slot, poking fun at the Chicago native’s lopsided victory.

Taking co-main event status on a little over two weeks’ notice, Muhammad managed to extended his undefeated streak at the welterweight limit to 10 straight fights, landing a one-sided unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) victory over the streaking, Burns in Newark, New Jersey.

Conor McGregor trashes Belal Muhammad following UFC 288 victory

Criticized largely across social media for his cruising display against a clearly hampered and injured Niteroi native, Burns – Muhammad, who is now lined up to take on the winner of an expected welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington later this year, was blasted by former two-division kingpin, McGregor on social media.

“That was a very poor bout,” Conor McGregor tweeted. “Piss poor.”

Sharing his thoughts in the immediate aftermath of his judging success against Kill Cliff FC staple, Burns, Muhammad claimed that he could defeat heavyweight champion, Jon Jones with an eight week training camp – before taking aim at the state of New Jersey.

“You give me eight weeks, I’ll beat Jon Jones,” Belal Muhammad told Joe Rogan during his Octagon interview at UFC 288. “You give me three weeks, I’ll beat any welterweight in the world… My first thoughts are; New Jersey, you suck. Leon (Edwards), Colby (Covington), I’m coming for both of you.”

Also taking aim at event headliner and fellow former two-weight champion, Henry Cejudo in the wake of his split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47) loss to Aljamain Sterling in their championship headliner, McGregor labelled the Olympic gold medalist a “stripper” in a heated post-event tirade on his official social media

Surging welterweight contender, Belal Muhammad has hit out at former interim champion, Colby Covington’s impending title challenge against Leon Edwards, with the former claiming UFC president, Dana White likely has “love” for the Clovis native.

Muhammad, the current #4 ranked welterweight contender, most recently featured on the main card of UFC 280 back in October of last year in Abu Dhabi, UAE – taking out the undefeated, Sean Brady in a late second round, improving his undefeated streak to nine consecutive fights.

Colby Covington’s title challenge against Leon Edwards has been slammed

Set to be overlooked for a shot at welterweight gold and a rematch with the above-mentioned, Edwards, Muhammad has questioned the UFC’s apparent favortism of former interim gold holder, Colby Covington.

“I don’t think it has anything to do with that one round versus Leon (Edwards),” Belal Muhammad told former UFC welterweight champion, Matt Serra and standup comedian, Jim Norton on the UFC Unfiltered podcast. “I’ve gone 4-0 since that fight against top-10 guys. I think it’s just that Colby (Covington) – I don’t know – maybe Dana White has a love for him or the UFC sees something in him.”

“I don’t think he’s (Colby Covington) a superstar,” Belal Muhammad explained. “I think that the PPVs he’s solf is because of (Jorge) Masvidal or Kamaru Usman. I don’t think it has anything to do with him.”

With former undisputed lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira forced from his UFC 288 co-headliner with Beneil Dariush in May due to a minor injury, the former gold holder’s compatriot, Gilbert Burns called for a short-notice catchweight fight with Muhammad, however, it appears the matchup has hit a sticking point.

As for Covington, the former interim gold holder has been sidelined since he handed a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 back in March of last year, however, he has been tipped to challenge for welterweight gold next by UFC boss, White
