An injury has knocked John Teixeira out of a key featherweight contest at Bellator 153 vs. former champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire.

Officials have signed Henry Corrales to replace Teixeira against Freire on April 22 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The bout will serve as the co-main event on Spike TV to welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov vs. Benson Henderson.

Freire (24-3) was bested for just the third time in his career this past November, falling via decision to Daniel Straus for the Bellator title. Prior to that, he had picked up wins over the likes of Daniel Weichel, Straus, Pat Curran and Justin Wilcox.

Corrales (12-2) entered Bellator with a perfect 10-0 record last year, but suffered defeats to current champion Straus via submission and Emmanuel Sanchez via split decision. Of his 12 career wins, 10 have been finishes.

Confirming reports that John Teixeira is injured and out of the planned Bellator 153 co-main event, Patricio “Pitbull” Freire made it known Friday that he is awaiting a new foe.

Freire (24-3) is a former Bellator featherweight champion who has gone 12-3 for the promotion. He is 7-1 over his last eight, losing only to Daniel Straus via decision for the title at Bellator 145.

The card, set for April 22, features Benson Henderson challenging Andrey Koreshkov for the welterweight title.

Bellator Adds Stitch Duran To Cutman Team

It shocked many when the and legendary cutman Jacob “Stitch” Duran parted ways. But that decision provided Duran with the chance to find a new home.

He did that on Thursday, signing on to be part of the Bellator MMA cutman team.

The promotion confirmed the news in a press release.

Duran’s first event with Bellator will come next month at Bellator 153 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The card features Benson Henderson’s debut against welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov.

“Working with my old friend, Scott Coker and Bellator is a true honor,” said Duran. “I can’t wait to get started working for a great organization that respects their employees and truly makes their fighters the top priority!”

Duran will be allowed to seek sponsors outside of Bellator, something he was not allowed to do after the UFC signed a deal with Reebok. The veteran also works with boxing greats Andre Ward and Vitaly and Wladimir Klitschko.

The name Gracie is synonymous with MMA, and that is largely in part to Royce Gracie, the man who is considered to have invented the sport as we know it today. The winner of the first several UFC events, Gracie would dismantle multiple opponents in a single night, many of whom were much larger than him. For many years there was no answer for the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu technique that he brought into a fight, today, it’s hard to find an MMA fighter who hasn’t trained in the art of jiu-jitsu. This past February, Gracie defeated Ken Shamrock in a record-shattering fight that was witnessed on Spike by over 3.5 million viewers.

Having first fought in the sport almost twenty years ago, very few men have a more legendary resume than Wanderlei Silva, who was recently signed to a Bellator MMA contract. “The Axe Murderer” is a Pride and UFC veteran, who brings an intimidating and imposing presence with him every time he steps into the cage. Silva hopes of adding to an already-impressive list of wins that include: Guy Mezger, Dan Henderson, Kazushi Sakuraba, Ricardo Arona, Kazuyuki Fujita, Michael Bisping, Cung Le, Brian Stann and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (2x).
