Welterweight Oliver Enkamp thrilled the London audience at Bellator 281 on Friday with a remarkable come-from-behind submission.

After a successful Paris card, Bellator MMA returned to England’s capital on Friday, May 13 for another exciting card. After five fights, the crowd inside the OVO Arena Wembley were still awaiting their first finish, but when it came, it came in some style.

In the sixth fight of the night, former UFC fighter Enkamp shared the cage with six-fight Bellator veteran Mark Lemminger. Despite a fast start from the Swede, the American quickly took over and had a firm grasp on the fight heading into the final round, with the second potentially even being worthy of a 10-8 score for Lemminger.

But less than 30 seconds into the third frame, Enkamp, who went 0-2 in the UFC courtesy of losses to Nordine Taleb and Danny Roberts, flipped the script.

After appearing fatigued, Enkamp had a spinning kick caught, with Lemminger sending him to the ground. From there, the Stockholm native adjusted position and locked in a unique buggy choke out of nowhere, securing the tap and a crazy comeback triumph.

It’s safe to say we have a Submission of the Year candidate…

Check out the wild finish below:

With the victory, Enkamp, who boasts a 2014 win over UFC fighter Guram Kutateladze, extended his professional record to 11-3, and his Bellator slate to 4-1. Lemminger, meanwhile, was sent home with his very first submission loss. He’s now 12-5 as a pro, with a negative 2-4 record under the Bellator banner.

Luke Trainer

A shock upset opened the main card of Bellator 281, as Luke Trainer was handed his first loss as a professional by Cameroon’s Simon Biyong.

Trainer walked out in front of his home crowd a huge betting favorite. The man from Stevenage appeared to get rocked early by Biyong, but was able to take the fight to the ground, where he locked up back control and rained down a series of hellacious strikes.

However, in the second round, Biyong began lighting Trainer up on the feet, sending the Brit tumbling to the canvas. ‘Hemle’ followed him down, taking the mount, and landing his own G&P. Trainer was just about able to hang on, and make it to the end of the round, although not before suffering numerous lacerations across his face.

The third round was more of the same, as Biyong’s striking damaged Trainer, leading to the fight once again going to the ground. Biyong rode the fight out from here, maintaining top control and landing more ground strikes till the end of the round.

Simon Biyong defeats Luke Trainer via unanimous decision (29-27, 28-27, 29-28).

Below, catch the highlights from Simon Biyong’s unanimous decision victory against Luke Trainer:

Taking main event status; an interim Bellator welterweight title fight between the #1 ranked welterweight contender, Michael Page, and the #4 ranked contender, Logan Storley. The promotion introduced an interim title to the division amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine after undisputed champion, Yaroslav Amosov returned home to help defend his country from the Russian invasion.

Unbeaten in his last six consecutive outings, experienced kickboxing striker, Page most recently featured in the main event of Bellator 267 last October, avenging his sole professional defeat with a close, debated split decision win over former undisputed champion, Douglas Lima.

South Dakota native, Storley has also only suffered one professional loss — a November 2020 split judging defeat against the aforenoted, Amosov. In a pair of victories since, Storley has improved to 13-1 with a pair of wins over Dante Schrio, and Neiman Gracie.

Former Bellator fighter “Baby” Joe Taimanglo was warned by a judge this week after submitting a positive drug test to Adult Probation Services in his native Guam.

The 37-year-old Taimanglo was originally arrested in October 2020. Law enforcement in Guam noticed expired plates on the scooter the former Bellator fighter was driving and stopped “Baby Joe.”

Officers found a glass pipe and loaded pistol in a compartment on the scooter. Taimanglo did not have a firearm ID for the pistol, and officers also found a small bag containing methamphetamine in a fanny pack.

In 2021, Taimanglo failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing related to his charges. No warrant was issued for his arrest, and the hearing was rescheduled for a later date. He remains free following this recent failed drug test, but the court has indicated he’ll be put in jail should he fail to remain clean. The former Bellator fighter is due back in court on June 24 to see where his case will go next.

While he’s far from the only current or former MMA fighter to run into legal troubles, Taimanglo is a fairly high-profile example considering his success as a fighter. The Guamanian compiled a 24-9-1 record in an MMA career that started in 2004 and ended in 2018.

Known during his fighting career as “Baby Joe the Juggernaut,” Taimanglo is best known for his time in Bellator from 2013-2018. He went 7-4 fighting for the promotion, initially competing at featherweight before dropping to bantamweight.

His back-to-back main event fights with Darrion Caldwell stand out as a high point in his career; Taimanglo submitted the future Bellator champion in their first bout but lost a decision in the rematch. “Baby Joe” ended his Bellator run with a win over former bantamweight champion Joe Warren in 2018 before officially wrapping his career later that year following a decision loss at WFCA 54.

What’s your reaction to the news about Joe Taimanglo’s legal troubles in his post-fighting career?

A Bellator bantamweight matchup between the returning James Gallagher and veteran Brett Johns has been booked for Bellator Dublin on September 23rd.

News of the booking was first reported by MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.

Gallagher returns to the Bellator cage following an injury that forced him to pull out of the Bellator Bantamweight World Grand Prix. He was allegedly set to face Magomed Magomedov but pulled out of the tournament before matchups were officially announced.

Gallagher’s last fight came against Patchy Mix at Bellator 270. He lost via third-round submission after winning four-straight fights before.

Gallagher has earned wins over the likes of Anthony Taylor, Roman Salazar, and Jeremiah Labiano during his Bellator career. A former SBG Ireland teammate of Conor McGregor, he recently made the move to the United States to train at Glory MMA & Fitness in Missouri under head coach James Krause.

Gallagher will face a game opponent in Johns, who has won three of his last four fights and most recently finished Khurshed Kakhorov at Bellator 275. Before signing with Bellator, he fought in the UFC against top bantamweights such as current champion Aljamain Sterling and Pedro Munhoz.

The Bellator Dublin card is slated to be headlined by a light heavyweight matchup between No. 10 Melvin Manhoef and former UFC title challenger Yoel Romero.

What are your thoughts on the James Gallagher vs. Brett Johns matchup?

Michael Venom Page (MVP) wants to become the first fighter to hold a world title in both mixed martial arts and boxing simultaneously.

Page recently spoke to MMA Junkie’s Farah Hannoun ahead of his interim title fight with Logan Storley at Bellator 281 in London this weekend. During the interview, Page was asked about his boxing career and if he plans on fighting inside the squared circle again.

From 2017 to 2018 Page competed in professional boxing, currently holding a record of 2-0, with both victories coming via finish. Page initially left the boxing world due to politics, but seeing that it’s becoming more and more common for MMA fighters to box, he’d love to give it another go.

“Yeah, to be fair, the only reason I stopped back then was because there was a lot of politics surrounding boxing,” Page said. “Noting to do with Bellator. They were really happy for me to go and do it.

“But now there is a lot more opportunities and it seems to be a lot more common that people are doing it, 100 percent I’d like to get to go and — you’ll definitely see me in a boxing ring again at some point.”

While most MMA fighters may be interested in boxing for the money, Page has bigger plans. He’d like to become the first fighter to hold World Championships in both MMA and boxing at the same time.

“Yeah, but for me, I’d love to be the first person to hold a world title in MMA and hold a world title in boxing. So the Logan Pauls and that kind of — that’s nothing. That has nothing to do with my goal.

“Don’t get me wrong, if it’s placed on the table and you see those zeros, and rub your eyes a couple of times, you’d probably say yes, but the goal is more taking it seriously.”

Do you think Michael Page has what it takes to become the first-ever simultaneous MMA and boxing champion? Sound off in the comments!
