One-time UFC heavyweight title challenger Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva has canceled his retirement, much to the chagrin of concerned combat sports fans.

On June 10, Silva suffered his 11th-straight loss across MMA, boxing, kickboxing, and bare-knuckle. Competing under the Kingdom Fighting banner, ‘Bigfoot’ surrendered a unanimous decision victory to Salim El Ouassaidi. While it was not a cause for celebration, Silva managed to avoid a knockout after being slept in his six prior fights.

Without a single win in the last eight years, ‘Bigfoot’ finally appeared ready to put down his gloves and walk away from the sport. Following his loss at Kingdom Fighting, Silva took to Instagram, where he officially announced his retirement.

“It was a great fight,” Silva said following the event on Instagram Live. “We tried the knockout all the time, he and I, and in the end, I retired. I put down my gloves in the center of the octagon. To me, everything has a beginning and an end, and I’m very happy and satisfied. We never want to stop, no professional athlete wants to stop, even in volleyball or football, but everything has a time, and I did this for 19 years.”

Less than a week later, ‘Bigfoot’ is already going back on his decision to retire, suggesting that Kingdom Fighting book a rematch between himself and El Ouassaidi.

“Let’s do a rematch Kingdom Fighting,” he wrote in a new Instagram post. “I’m ready and I’m coming back from retirement to fight again because I know I didn’t lose … #letsgo.”

Fans Beg ‘Bigfoot’ Silva to Stay Retired After 11-Straight Losses

Needless to say, fans were not happy to see ‘Bigfoot’ renege on his retirement after taking years of damage. “Time to hang ‘em up big fella we love you and thanks for all the fights you gave us but you have got to stop,” one fan commented on Instagram. “Be a trainer you are very knowledged I hate seeing you fight knowing what you were in you’re prime sorry.”

Another fan echoed those sentiments, suggesting ‘Bigfoot’ use his time left to spend it with family and training the next generation of combat sports stars. “One of the best fighters of all time but I think it’s best to save yourself from taking more damage. Spend time with family and become trainer.”

Of course, not everyone was as gentle with their response to the news. “GUY ARE YOU ON F—ING drugs ?!??” another exclaimed. “You lost 12 in a row !!! Enough already !! Nobody wants to see you fight anymore and take anymore shots to that big ass head of yours !!!

During his nearly two-decade-long run, ‘Bigfoot’ Silva has stepped inside the cage with some of the biggest names in mixed martial arts, including heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko, UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, and former UFC heavyweight champions like Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum, and Cain Velasquez. He also holds victories over notables, including Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne.

His last win came against Soa Palelei at UFC 190 in 2015

Despite suffering two separate knockout losses in both professional mixed martial arts and kickboxing in the last two months, UFC alum, Bigfoot Silva is set to return to kickboxing against the 102-9-1 talent, Azerbaijan striker, Zabit Samedov under the banner of MixFight Championship.

Bigfoot Silva, an alum of the UFC, Cage Warriors, Strikeforce, EliteXC, and Fight Nights Global to name a few, suffered a second round knockout loss to Vlacheslav Datsik just earlier this month, which followed a June knockout defeat against Oleg Popov in his mixed martial arts return.

Boasting an 0-2 kickboxing record to go with a faltering mixed martial arts record of 19-14(1), Silva has suffered a string of seven straight losses, dropping six knockout defeats in that run to boot.

Despite calls for the veteran Brasilia native to finally hang up his gloves from professional combat sports amid a slew of recent knockout losses and run of form, Silva, as per an initial report from MMA Junkie reporter, Nolan King – will return to kickboxing against the Muay Thai and kickboxing ace, Samedov.

Bigfoot Silva is without a victory in the last seven years across combat sports

Without a professional victory since UFC 190 back in 2015, Silva defeated the now-retired, Soa Palelei, before exiting the UFC after a TKO defeat of his own against fellow veteran, Mark Hunt.

Across the course of his storied professional career, Silva has defeated the likes of Ricco Rodriguez, Andrei Arlovski, Fedor Emelianenko, Travis Browne, and Alistair Overeem.

Silva’s former manager and agent, Alex Davis addressed his former clients run of recent losses, explaining how he tried everything in order to convince the Brazilian to retire from combat sports.

“You cannot defend a man from his own self,” Alex Davis tweeted. “I did my very best. The plan was for him (Bigfoot Silva) to stop fighting 8 KO’s ago. He made the $. I let go at that point, could not be a part of this. But he always goes in with a big heart and never reminisces on a loss.”

In a bout that most felt was completely unnecessary, Glory heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven met rapidly fading MMA veteran Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at today’s (Sat., Oct. 14, 2017) Glory 46 from Guangzhou, China.

And as most expected him to, Verhoeven stopped the hulking Brazilian, although it did take him two rounds to do so. Early on, Verhoeven used brutal low kicks to batter ‘Bigfoot’ before going upstairs in the second round to knock Silva down with a head kick. The finishing sequence came soon thereafter, as Verhoeven unloaded a spinning wheel kick and a flurry of punches that forced the ref to stop the fight.

The finishing sequence came soon thereafter, as Verhoeven unloaded a spinning wheel kick and a flurry of punches that forced the ref to stop the fight. It sent Silva to his sixth straight loss overall, with five of those coming by some form of knockout, leaving his fighting future, and unfortunately, his long-term health, in question.

In an interview with MMAjunkie, Alex Davis offered up his thoughts on what could be next for UFC heavyweight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.

The former title contender lost for the seventh time in 11 UFC fights to Roy Nelson recently, dropping his overall record to 19-10-1. While he has not yet been released, it is expected after the promotion almost cut him earlier this year.

“I think ‘Bigfoot’ will probably be out of the UFC and probably go to Rizin (FF) or Russia,” Davis said.

The bout with Nelson featured an interesting post-fight moment, as Nelson kicked referee John McCarthy. His case has since been sent to the MMA Superior Justice Court for evaluation. And while Davis appreciates the reason “Big Country” went after McCarthy, he knows consequences are to come.

“I love him for that, but if everybody in that moment physically touches the referee, we’re going to have endless problems,” Davis said. “Although I love him for his attitude, I don’t think he should have done that.”

Nelson felt that McCarthy was not quick enough to call off the fight, forcing him to land more punches than he wanted to against Silva, who he calls a friend.
