Charges of DUI and reckless driving against UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn have been dropped by the state after a summons to appear in court went unserved.

The charges stem from a 2021 incident in Honokaa, Hawaii, where the police officers arrested Penn for driving under the influence and in a “reckless manner.” The arrest was made after Penn was allegedly behaving belligerently at a Honokaa business. The charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning the state could elect to refile them at a later date.

BJ Penn has had other run-ins with the law in recent years. He was also investigated for a DUI in 2020 after being hospitalized following a car accident. No charges were filed at the conclusion of the investigation.

Penn has also been involved in his share of public fights, including a 2015 brawl outside of a bar that led to an arrest. He was later involved in another bar fight in 2019 that led to his UFC release.

BJ Penn is a former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion. He holds victories over names like Matt Hughes, Renzo Gracie, Sean Sherk, among others. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2015.

Most recently, Penn has expressed plans to run for governor of Hawaii.

UFC legend BJ Penn is ready to make his triumphant return to the octagon if wrestling great Hulk Hogan assists in his walkout.

At 43, it is highly unlikely that Penn would be willing to make the return to the high stage of the UFC at this point in his life. But, despite seven straight losses, he would be motivated to fight again if Hogan was by his side during his walk to the octagon.

Penn has alluded to his love of professional wrestling on multiple occasions during his athletic career, and more specifically Hogan.

During a recent interview with his official website, Penn spoke about the lasting impact that Hogan has had on his life.

“Hulk Hogan was my hero and such an inspiration for me growing up,” Penn said. “Those are such good memories to look back on. Hulk Hogan was a larger-than-life figure and I hope he realizes how many lives he’s touched in such a positive way.

“When we were talking about having him come out (to my fight), I was just thinking of having him come and sit in the front row. But yeah, imagine walking out with him? Geez, I would come back for one more fight to make that happen.” (h/t MMAMania)

BJ Penn, Hulk Hogan Are All-Time Greats In Their Respective Sports

Penn is widely regarded as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time and arguably one of the best champions in the history of the sport. He earned titles at welterweight and lightweight during his legendary UFC career.

A run of wins in six of nine fights would be the last moments of greatness for Penn, as he would go on quite the losing skid on his way out of the UFC.

Penn has dabbled into the world of politics since retiring from combat sports. But, he could be on the way back to the octagon if Hogan agrees to Penn’s demands for a featured walkout.

BJ Penn Explains Why Khabib Nurmagomedov Never Moved Up To 170lbs

BJ Penn has a theory about why Khabib Nurmagomedov never jumped up to welterweight in pursuit of double-champ status.

‘The Eagle’ retired in October 2020 and recently declared himself the best lightweight fighter of all time, putting Penn second on his 155lb GOAT list.

Penn responded to Khabib’s comment and seemed to think the debate for the greatest lightweight fighter of all time was not as clear-cut as the undefeated Russian made out. The Hawaiian also noted his move through the weight classes and Nurmagomedov’s reluctance to compete outside of the 155lb division.

‘The Prodigy’ has now explained why Nurmagomedov never moved up to welterweight to take on Kamaru Usman.

“Since Khabib has been saying he is the greatest lightweight of all time and I am number 2 best lightweight many people have been asking me why didn’t Khabib fight Usman for the 170 pound belt or compete for 170 belt like I did many times… in my humble opinion it is because he is not proficient and confident in jiujitsu,” Penn wrote on Instagram.

“I believe the reason behind Khabib not fighting Usman is because he does not know jiujitsu like I did and he is not comfortable fighting off his back against someone who is bigger and stronger than him like I did many many times in my career.
I fought at 170 185 and heavyweight and every fight I had to fight from my back and survive and come back and fight harder if I was to get a victory.

“It’s because of my jiujitsu black belt ? experience and fighting in my weight and absolute division for years that always prepared me for this…Gracie jiujitsu and Brazilian jiu-jitsu alone is not enough to be UFC champion but to choose one system BJJ is still the greatest self defense system in the world especially for the little man to fight the big man.

“It was just part of the game…
Khabib says jiujitsu is easy and he is the best grappler ever but he did not fight bigger opponents in higher weight classes because his style is not prepared for this …and that’s what jiujitsu was created for.. for the little man to defend himself from the big man! That is martial arts, that is self defense !!”
