Despite the fact that he has never competed in a professional boxing match, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor recently said that he would knock out former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather if the two actually meet inside the squared circle.

“Money” recently responded to McGregor’s comments, saying that he respects the claims made by the brash Irishman:

“I feel he’s entitled to feel the way he wants to feel, the only thing you can do is respect that,” Mayweather recently told Fight Hype via The Sun.

Although he respects McGregor’s opinion, Mayweather was quick to remind the “Notorious” one that becoming a successful boxer takes years and years of competition:

“I didn’t just become world champion overnight, it was a process, it took me longer than four years, but not as a professional, as professional it took me less than two years to become world champion,” said Mayweather.

“But as an amateur, I had my first amateur fight in 87 and I wasn’t a world champion in the professional ranks until I was 21 I think, 1998.”

The potential super fight between the two stars has been discussed for well over a year now, but recently it has seemed to be nearing closer and closer towards a reality. UFC President Dana White even said that he wouldn’t stop the bout from happening, something Mayweather was happy to hear:

“I just want to say, Dana White, I was overseas when they told me what you said, I want to say good work Dana White.”

18 of McGregor’s victories in MMA have come by way of knockout, but would you give him any chance to finish Mayweather?

Legendary Boxing Trainer To Corner Georges St. Pierre In Return Bout

Former longtime UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will make his long awaited return to the Octagon later this year when he takes on middleweight titleholder Michael Bipsing, and it appears as if St. Pierre will have a new face in his corner for the bout.

“Rush” has worked with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach for years now, but Roach has never been in his corner, although that will soon change:

“I promised Georges I’ll be in his corner,” Roach told The Boston Herald. “That would be my first time in a corner for MMA, yes. It’s a little bit different, obviously, but the thing is, you have different coaches. And one thing I know about coaching is that people only listen to one person. So somebody will be in control of what’s going on, and we’ll all work together while the round’s going on and help each other.”

St. Pierre has long trained under the tutelage of Firas Zahabi at the famed Tristar Gym in Canada. It’s likely that Zahabi will remain in his corner, but Roach actually feels as if he’ll be the main speaker on fight night:

“Who’s going to be the speaker that night is whoever Georges is most comfortable with, and it will probably be me, I think, but we’ll see how that goes,” Roach said. “I think Georges has a lot of confidence in me, and I in him.”

As far as St. Pierre’s return bout goes, Roach seems to be confident. The Canadian will obviously be at a size disadvantage, but Roach believes that “Rush” is ‘too much of an athlete’ for Bisping:

“I think Georges is too much of an athlete, too skillful for him,” Roach said. “I know Georges’ number one game is not striking, but he is getting better and better at it, and I feel that going into this fight he’s going to be really confident.”

What do you make of Roach being in the corner of GSP?

Legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum doesn’t feel as if a potential super fight between former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will necessarily be a ‘great fight’, but it seems as if he expects the fight to take place.

If it doesn’t, however, Arum says that the ‘blame’ will be put solely on the UFC and not on McGregor or Mayweather:

“I think the only impediment there is the UFC, because UFC doesn’t treat fighters the same way that boxing promoters do,” Arum told FightHub. “In other words, UFC fighters get so much less than boxers do. They proposed a deal to Conor that on his share of the purse, they take 50 percent. Now, give me a break.

“If the fight doesn’t happen…not that I think it’s going to be a great fight, because I think Conor fighting Mayweather is not really a fight, if it’s boxing. Conor (is a) great MMA fighter, but hasn’t shown anything in boxing. And Mayweather’s one of the great fighters. But if that fight doesn’t happen, the blame will only be on the UFC.”

Mayweather hasn’t competed since a 2015 decision victory over Andre Berto, as he announced his retirement after the bout. However, he recently confirmed that he was out of a retirement simply to settle his rivalry with McGregor.

The Irishman, on the other hand, last fought at UFC 205 on Nov. 12, 2016 at Madison Square Garden when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to become the promotion’s lightweight champion.

Conor McGregor has had a long-standing bone to pick with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) ever since he was dealt some stiff sanctions for his infamous water bottle (and Monster cans)-throwing battle with archrival Nate Diaz and his team at a pre-fight press conference for UFC 202.

McGregor has badmouthed the commission on multiple occasions since he was handed his punishment in October, but now, the outspoken champion has actually received some good news. With Nevada perhaps not wanting to miss out on the potential massive payday of McGregor vs. Mayweather, the commission chose to revisit ‘The Notorious” punishment today, reducing it to one sixth of the original $150,000 fine and half of the 50 required community service hours.

McGregor’s original fine was reduced to $75,000 about a week after the shocking $150,000 number – five percent of his $3 million purse for the massively successful card – was first announced in October. He’s now only faced with a $25,000 fine and 25 hours of community service, which also could mean Diaz could appeal his $50,000 fine and 50 hours to be reduced.

According to a report from MMA Fighting’s Shaun Al-Shatti, Nevada Deputy Attorney General Caroline Bateman laid out a “prosed settlement agreement” where she acknowledged that McGregor’s behavior, while inappropriate, didn’t necessarily affect the outcome of his fight with Diaz, like one of the fighters failing for performance-enhancing drugs, for example, would have. Because of that, she determined fining McGregor based ona percentage of his earnings “didn’t really work” and also that it didn’t add up to fine him more just because he made more than other fighters who could be in similar situations.

So with the punishment now a very workable fine and commitment to the community, the doors are clearly opening for McGregor to finally book his oft-discussed boxing match with Mayweather in Las Vegas.

Each day it seems as if the often talked about mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor inches closer towards becoming a reality and the UFC lightweight champion certainly expects the bout to take place.

In a recent interview, the “Notorious” one claimed that him and Mayweather are ‘very close to inking’ a deal that would make the fight official:

“I’m ready. I look forward to it. I’m excited and I’m prepared. We’re very close to inking it,” McGregor revealed when speaking to IFL TV. “I’m not going to say no more, we’re very close that’s it.”

While McGregor is known for his patented left hand and crisp boxing inside the Octagon, many have given him a slim chance in a potential bout against Mayweather. After all, “Money” is the former pound-for-pound king with a perfect professional record of 49-0. To no surprise, however, McGregor is confident in his chances against Mayweather:

“[Expletive] Floyd. Trust me, this whole boxing world don’t know what they’re going to see when I roll in here,” McGregor shouted. “I’m unpredictable. Nobody knows what they’re in for.

“Everybody’s writing me off. They’re going to be in shock. Make no mistake about it.”

The Irishman has proved doubters wrong time and time again, but would you give him any chance against “Money” inside the squared circle?
