Ronda Rousey to Star in ESPN Body Issue: Strikeforce Hottie Keeps Rising

Sports fans love a girl who can fight and put her opponents down with nothing but a vicious mindset and a quiet smile. Those same qualities have helped put many sexy athletes on the map, and we believe it’s time for Ronda Rousey to truly get noticed.

And apparently so do the folks over at the ESPN Body Issue headquarters, as they are set to have the Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion herself grace their pages, according to MMAJunkie.com.

Now that she’s escaped the shadows of fellow beauty Miesha Tate, defeating her rival with an armbar four minutes into the first round earlier this month, Rousey can take her carefree attitude and tough exterior to the top of the food chain.

With icons such as Gina Carano and Jon Jones having flipped the script for the Body Issue previously, it’s not as if Rousey is sailing into uncharted waters. But she may be ready to make a huge splash.

Considering Rousey’s fight against Tate had 431,000 Showtime viewers, it’s safe to say the Body Issue is hoping to witness a significant increase in readers for this coming fall, when we hope it arrives on the stands.

Until that time, Rousey will comfortably relax to the nice tune of 5-0. Five matches, five deadly armbars, five reasons to bare it all for a new audience.

They’ll be plenty of new crowds waiting eagerly for Rousey’s upcoming appearance.

Complementing the violent yet artistic nature of MMA is a crew of sexy ring girls, all scratching and clawing for a chance in the spotlight.

Possessing perhaps the most skilled judges of talent in the world, the UFC has always had only the most beautiful specimens gracing their arenas, innocently prancing around, looking good as usual.

But amid the surplus of historically breathtaking women is a pair of stars, two beauties who continue to hog cameras and cause chaos.

Arianny Celeste and Brittney Palmer began to dominate the competition the moment they stepped into the ring, and haven’t looked back since.

Now it’s time for them to battle for the No. 1 spot in a sexy pic fight that is sure to make history.

Ali vs. Liston has nothing on this stunning matchup.

The UFC is MMA. It is the number one mixed martial arts promotion in the entire world. So when you picture the promotion that has the highest ratings and most fans, one would expect them to also have the hottest ring girls, right?

Wrong!

I have scoured the web to find 20 of the hottest non-UFC ring girls in the world. Some of them might look familiar while others will be brand spanking new. You will not be disappointed.

Hopefully you can put down the remote and spend the next few minutes enjoying those sexy ring girls not working for UFC. Sorry, no Arianny Celeste or Brittney Palmer in here.

I love martial arts and have been a practitioner since I was child.  I have also been glued to the wonderful invention that is television ever since I could sit up under my own power.

There have been some iconic martial arts films such as Enter the Dragon and The Karate Kid (1984), but we have also been subjected to some of the biggest cinematic atrocities in film.  With the rise of mixed martial arts, we are slowly seeing MMA making it’s way into film—but not in a good way.

Since I have had the privilege of seeing some of these films, I thought what better way to show my appreciation (read: displeasure) to Hollywood than by bringing them to you.

Now there are some rules.  In the movies I’ve selected, the main purpose of the film was to showcase either a specific martial art or martial arts in general.  So while I could probably fill this list with Steven Seagal movies alone, unfortunately he does not appear on this list.

I’m also ashamed to say that I own some of these, but aren’t some movies so bad they’re actually entertaining?  Some of these were also box office successes, but when has that ever meant that a movie was worth watching?

Cough…cough…Avatar…cough.

Haywire Movie Review: Strikeforce’s Gina Carano Kicks Ass in Her First Lead Role

From the face of women’s MMA to the newest lead actress in Hollywood, Strikeforce’s Gina Carano can now be known as one of only a few athletes from the sport to have successfully crossed over onto the big screen. Carano joins the likes of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Cung Le and Randy Couture, among others, who have put their MMA talents to use in the movie industry.

Carano plays the lead role in Steven Soderbergh’s new action film Haywire, which follows a highly trained operative named Mallory Kane (Carano) who works for a company that takes on extremely dangerous assignments that the government cannot authorize.

While on a mission overseas, Mallory is double-crossed by her own agency and has to fight to stay alive while attempting to learn the truth about why she was the intended victim of an attempted murder.

Carano stars alongside Hollywood mainstays Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas and Ewan McGregor. She even engages in a passionate kiss with heartthrob Channing Tatum.

The film itself is not without its quirks as is to be expected when an actress is taking on her first lead role, but Carano delivers quite a performance given her lack of experience. The MMA superstar shows off her real-life fighting skills, utilizing her kickboxing and jiu jitsu in a series of intense hand-to-hand battles throughout the film.

While other films have rather unsuccessfully attempted to include MMA-style fighting, Soderbergh’s Haywire might have finally hit the nail on the head with Carano utilizing everything from guillotine and triangle chokes to a violent armbar that successfully snaps a main character’s arm in half.

The choreography of the fight scenes in this film are about as good as we have seen in recent memory. While other movies with strong female leads have included fight scenes in the past, Carano brings a strong sense of realism to the screen.

At no point does the audience roll their eyes due to the unrealistic nature of a fight scene, yet somehow Haywire still delivers the same intensity as the more exaggerated action films.

Despite early comparisons to The Bourne Identity series, Haywire isn’t a remake of the successful series starring Matt Damon. Instead, it is its own unique blend of an action-thriller that simply just works

It’s not time for Angelina Jolie to move over quite yet, but with a little polishing, Gina Carano could have herself a generous-paying second career if she does decide to hang up the gloves in Strikeforce.

Check out Ms. Carano as she talks Haywire and a few fictional celebrity fights with Bleacher Report’s Desi Sanchez on the set of BR5.
