Thiago Silva Admits to the Old Fake Piss Trick

Just a few weeks ago the MMA world was buzzing about Thiago Silva’s impressive beat down, nose smashing win over Brandon Vera at UFC 125. After Silva’s UD loss to Rashad Evans last January, one of the baddest looking dudes in the sport appeared to be back on track. Then, of course, the NSAC reported something might be funky with Silva’s drug tests, and yadda, yadda, yadda, it was confirmed this week by the commission that the pee-pee submitted by the light-heavyweight may not be human. Now that’s how you tarnish a win…

Well, apparently Silva won’t try to talk his way out of this by claiming some sort of grand conspiracy against him, or that he’s been eating nothing but discount hotdogs for months so no wonder his piss was off. In a statement posted by MMA Junkie today, Silva admitted to urine tampering, and he will now accept the NSAC’s wrath.

“I used a urine adulterant when giving a sample following my fight with Brandon Vera. I did so in an attempt to alter the results of the test and knowingly broke the rules of the Nevada (State) Athletic Commission. This was a terrible decision on my part for which I will be punished. I am prepared to accept this punishment, learn from it and move on. I apologize to the commission, the UFC, Brandon Vera and the MMA fans.”

Silva went on to say, and this is not an excuse rather a statement of what went down according to him, that he trashed his back heading into his bout with Evans, and then, reinjured it again while preparing for Vera. Thus, in order to fight on January 1st, he took “injections in my back”. Well, looks like Silva will be back on the bench anyhow.

The urine sample Thiago Silva submitted for testing prior to UFC 125 was “inconsistent with human urine,” according to a complaint filed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

NSAC executive director Keith Kizer sent MMA Fighting an e-mail outlining the factual allegations against Silva, who now stands accused of submitting “an adulterated and/or substituted specimen for testing for the Urinalysis” prior to his decision win over Brandon Vera in Las Vegas on January 1.

This week, our nation’s attention has been captured by redneck birds and the Golden Voice Hobo, only one of which has a happy ending. (No, not that kind…the other kind. Yes, there is another kind.) The rags-to-riches-to-rags-and-back-to-riches tale of fortune for Ted Williams is the polar opposite of that of many fighters lately. In the last two weeks, Zuffa has cut six fighters and suspended one more. The economy is still in the can and homeboys gotta eat, so if Strikeforce or Bellator don’t come calling soon, this is where you’re going to see ‘The Expendables’ next:

Brandon "The Truth" Vera: Some believe the number 13 to be unlucky, and for Vera it was. After exactly that many fights in the Octagon, his days in the spotlight are over. From now on he’ll be slinging dinuguan [Ed. note: Eww.] with a side of balut  [Ed. note: *barfs*] at his aunt and uncle’s restaurant, Manila Good-Ha, in L.A.’s Koreatown. It’s a match made in heaven for Vera because he’ll never have to worry about getting punched in the nose again — that is, unless he back-talks his wife Kerry. He’s just gotta make sure Jon Jones’s order is just how he likes it.

Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" DavisThe former TUF 2 contestant will grow out his hair and learn how to drop flying-elbows off the top turnbuckle. Davis will join forces with Samoa Joe, the man he trained back in 2008, to form the world’s most obscure tag-team since The Oddities. At some point Marc Mero, also a former boxer, will come out of retirement to challenge The Irish Hand Grenade to a Caribbean Strap Match for bragging rights as the best ‘real’ fighter in TNA. Dan Hardy will interfere and cost him the match leaving him to reconsider life in some barn with his ex-Army sniper friend.

As Jon JonesTwitter followers might have noticed on Saturday night, the UFC light heavyweight wasn’t a fan of Thiago Silva‘s slapping maneuver against Brandon Vera late in their UFC 125 bout.

Jones called Silva’s treatment of Vera “disrespectful,” and added “i’d love to give him a slap in the face.”

To many people on the internet, it looked like an instant rivalry. As Jones explained to MMA Fighting this week, it’s not that he has anything personal against Silva, but rather against blatant displays of disrespect between professionals.

Other fighters released from their contracts following their losses at UFC 125 were Marcus Davis and Antonio McKee. Both McKee and Davis were UFC Lightweights. McKee was making his UFC debut when he lost a Split Decision to Jacob Volkmann and Davis received his second loss in a row via KO from Jeremy Stephens. Usually UFC seems to practice a 3 strikes and you’re out method, but their Lightweight division is a bit overloaded with the WEC Lightweights moving in, which may have contributed to the two being cut from their contracts
