It was a card full of retiring veterans at this evening’s (Sat., September 22, 2018) UFC Fight Night 137 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil.

After Brazilian middleweight Thales Leites retired after defeating Hector Lombard earlier at the event, lightweight Evan Dunham met Francisco Trinaldo on the FOX Sports 2-aired prelims. Things didn’t go quite as well for Dunham, however.

The fight was an entertaining one. Both fighters had their moments, with Dunham mixing more footwork while Trinaldo looked to counter with heavy shots. “Massaranduba” appeared to be headhunting with several huge kick attempts as well. Dunham was resilient and was landing more shots overall.

The longtime Brazilian veteran had a noted advantage in power, on the other hand. He used it to land a perfect knee to Dunham’s liver. The strike forced referee Marc Goddard to call it immediately. Watch the impressive knockout right here:

Dunham retired after the fight, stepping down with the pure grace and class he’s exhibited throughout his entire UFC career. He received a ton of respect on social media because of just that. Watch him thank the crowd one last time as he gave a heartfelt farewell to the Brazilian fans:

Dunham steps down with an 11-8-1 record in the Octagon, therefore crediting Joe Lauzon, Gleison Tibau, Ross Pearson, Tyson Griffin, and Nik Lentz among his biggest wins. He fought top lightweights Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, and Edson Barboza.

He was a veteran of an amazing 20 fights in the notoriously tough UFC lightweight division. We wish Dunham all the best in his post-fighting endeavors.

Longtime veterans Thales Leites and Hector Lombard met on the preliminary card of tonight’s (Sat., September 22, 2018) UFC Fight Night 137 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil.

Little did we know, it was Leites’ last fight in his long and decorated MMA career. It also wasn’t without some adversity, however. Leites’ knee was swollen quite gruesomely at one point.

Check it out:

It wasn’t the most eventful fight, yet Leites was able to get his hand raised by decision after three rounds:

Leites then did something that was perhaps unexpected. The middleweight mainstay dropped his gloves in the Octagon and retired in his home country of Brazil:

Leites leaves the sport behind with a quietly historic career. He is tied for the third-most wins in UFC middleweight history with 13. That’s an impressive feat to be sure.

“Milk” debuted in the Octagon all the way back in November 2006. He lost a decision to Martin Kampmann. He then ran up five straight wins afterward. That earned him a title shot against all-time great former champ Anderson Silva in April 2009. The fight is still largely considered one of the worst UFC title fights of all-time.

But he still fought “The Spider” in his prime.

Leites also probably could not have chosen a better moment to go out on top after a close victory in his Brazilian homeland. He beat Lombard yet had lost three of his previous five UFC bouts. He was a talented submission artist who tapped out 15 opponents in his nearly 15-year mixed martial arts career. Leites faced top names like Silva, Michael Bisping, Lombard, Jeremy Horn, and Tim Boetsch.

We wish Leites all the best in his post-fight life.

The stage is set and tomorrow’s (Sat., September 22, 2018) UFC Fight Night 137 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is ready.

The main event of the Brazil-based card has seen a never-ending streak of changes starting with Glover Teixeira and ending with Jimi Manuwa’s withdrawal. Usual middleweights Thiago Santos and Eryk Anders will meet in the replacement main event.

Both Santos and Anders made weight for the 205-pound bout at today’s early weigh-ins. Former bantamweight champion Renan Barao did not, however, but that’s a different story.

Regardless, fight-crazed MMA fans in Brazil should have an explosive main event to cheer for tomorrow night. To get ready for the bout, check out Santos and Anders’ staredowns from the ceremonial weigh-ins here:

This weekend’s (September 22, 2018) UFC Fight Night 137 (UFC Sao Paulo) at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil, has simply been a mess from the opening bell.

The main event was originally a light heavyweight match-up between Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa. Teixeira was forced and Brazilian middleweight Thiago Santos stepped in to fight in his home country. Manuwa then withdrew from the fight himself due to injury.

Manuwa issued a statement on his withdrawal earlier today.

Middleweight Eryk Anders replaced him to meet Santos at light heavyweight. It was a dizzying series of events that lost Teixeira, Manuwa, Neil Magny, Tonya Evinger, and Ketlen Vieira due to injury.

The news is a concerning series of events for the UFC and fans. So much so that the promotion has offered refunds for anyone who purchased a ticket due to never-ending switch-ups. The refunds will be available until September 21.

UFC Sao Paulo promises to bring next to no mainstream value because of not only the injuries but the overall lack of star power even before them. The UFC’s Fight Nights on FOX Sports 1 have been struggling mightily all through this year. Let’s hope their new TV deal with ESPN changes that in 2019.

If you have several million dollars to burn, you might be interested in former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s Los Angeles home.

“The Spider” is reportedly selling the Palos Verdes estate for $4.9 million. The Los Angeles Times posted the following description of the luxurious space:

“The multilevel house, completely reimagined three years ago, packs a well-rounded punch with vibrant marble and wood surfaces, two kitchens, an open-air gym and a sauna room.

“High ceilings, walls of windows and skylights give the polished interior a sense of spaciousness. The 7,100 square feet of living space also includes six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

“There are living rooms with motorized glass doors on each level.”

Per public records, Silva purchased the home back in 2011 for $1.76 million. The Brazilian will make a huge profit for his investment if he’s able to sell it for $4.9 million or more.

The 43-year-old currently holds a mixed martial arts (MMA) record of 34-8-1. His last Octagon appearance came in February of 2017 when he defeated Derek Brunson via unanimous decision.

Silva was once on a spectacular 17-fight winning streak. He eventually captured the UFC middleweight title and racked up a then-record 10 consecutive title defenses. His reign was eventually ended by Chris Weidman in July of 2013.

Following that defeat, Silva was defeated three straight times in a rematch with Weidman, Michael Bisping, and Daniel Cormier. He picked up his first win since October of 2012 against Brunson last year.
