Bleacher Report’s Sal DeRose:

At UFC 129, Mark Hominick gave Jose Aldo a run for his money even with a hematoma on his head. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to grasp the UFC featherweight title from Aldo.

Hominick though, may get another crack at the featherweight title with a couple more wins under his belt after he impressed the UFC with his UFC 129 performance.

“Oh, they were thrilled. They were like, ‘Heal up and we want you back as soon as you can. In another two fights you will get another crack at the title,’” Hominick told The Fan 590 Radio on Monday. “I know some of the things I have to work on to take him out. I don’t think he would be lining up to fight me to tell you the honest truth.”

Hominick took the fight to Aldo and in the fifth round made an impressive comeback to try and sway the judges in his favor. Hominick though lost to Aldo by unanimous decision and is now out for a little bit while he heals.

Hominick’s performance took place at home in Canada in front of 50,000 at Roger Centre in Toronto.

Rashad Evans: Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping Is a ‘Competitive Fight’

BloodyElbow.com was kind enough to report on an interview Fighters Only did with UFC light heavyweight Rashad Evans.

The main topic of discussion was one of Evans former opponents, “The Count” Michael Bisping.

Evans said that Bisping is not a guy who seems that skilled, until you enter the cage against him.

“That’s one thing I learned by fighting him. And his takedowns have gotten a lot better, I have been impressed by that—and by his transitions to those takedowns,” Evans complimented.

The former light heavyweight champion then had no problem elaborating on these comments.

“See its one thing to be able to hit a takedown—anybody at this level in MMA, we all know how to take someone down. But its the little things that make your takedown effective and one of the things is your transition from your punches to your takedown.”

For those unfamiliar, Evans won a split decision over Bisping at UFC 78 in what was widely considered a boring fight.

The most noteworthy event here is that the fight took place at light heavyweight, and after the loss, Bisping decided to drop down to middleweight.

Regardless of how entertaining the fight was, Evans maintains his stance that Bisping could give middleweight champion Anderson Silva a run for his money.

Evans defended the notorious British trash talker by saying that:  “Bisping has gotten really effective at that transition and that happens to be Anderson Silva’s Achilles Heel, the takedown, so it could be a competitive fight.”

The former Michigan State Spartan also talked about how he liked how Bisping isn’t afraid to throw caution to the wind in his fights.

“And another thing that Bisping does is, sometimes he just doesn’t care, you know? He just doesn’t care, he just goes for it. So for people to say it wouldn’t be a fight or it wouldn’t be close? I wouldn’t say that about someone like Michael Bisping.”

Rashad also wanted to clarify that it’s not like he has a Union Jack and a life size poster of Bisping in his bedroom.

“And I am not like some huge Bisping fan, I just think he can scrap and he is very competitive. Put him in with anyone and he will give it a competitive fight. But then Anderson is something else… put it this way, put Bisping in with Anderson and it would be interesting.”

Bisping does not have a fight on the horizon after his controversial defeat of Jorge Rivera at UFC 127.

He has been called out by fellow middleweight contenders Alan Belcher, Nate Marquardt, and Chael Sonnen, but no official fight has been booked yet for The Count.

With Marquardt making the drop to welterweight rather suddenly, talk has intensified that Bisping will be Sonnen’s first opponent after coming back from suspension and regaining a fighter’s license in the state of Nevada.

Meanwhile, Rashad Evans was slated to face former Jackson Submission Fighting teammate, and current light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, at UFC 133.

However, Jones was forced to withdraw due to a hand injury.  Evans is now slated to face fellow light heavyweight contender Phil Davis at UFC 133 instead.

According to MMAConvert.com, UFC welterweight Jon Fitch had successful surgery after he suffered a shoulder injury during his bout against BJ Penn, at UFC 127

Fitch posted via Twitter earlier today following his surgery and he seems to be in great spirits.

“Awake and feeling like a million bucks,” Fitch said.

While the American Kickboxing Academy fighter has not confirmed a return to the Octagon, he is expected to be out of action for six months.

However the injury has not affected Fitch completely. MMAConvert.com also reports he attended a UFC 129 after party last weekend in Toronto, where he and AKA teammate Cain Velasquez ran into BJ Penn.

“I saw him in Toronto and we were at the bar. I walked over to say hello…and the next thing I know somebody was shooting a single-leg [takedown] on me. I look down and it’s B.J., laughing his a– off,” Fitch said. “We’re on good terms, but I still want to kick the crap out of him.”

One can only assume what Fitch’s intentions are once he is medically cleared to return to the Octagon.

UFC 129 Results: Lyoto Machida’s Kick May Not Be From Steven Seagal

Last Saturday, when Lyoto Machida used a real life version of Mortal Kombat and the “Crane Kick” all rolled into one, actor Steven Seagal took little time to take credit for teaching Machida the move.

In actuality though, Machida didn’t meet up with Seagal until the night of UFC 129, and in fact, learned the kick from his father, not Seagal.

“There is this kick in Karate, ‘Kanku Dai’. When I started preparing, soon after hernia surgery, my preparation was a bit limited, so my dad [Yoshizo] gave me some kicks to train and told me to use it in sparring at times, but always very carefully because this is a shot that hurts, it’s like a poke,” Machida told Tatame.

Machida told Tatame the news that he did not meet with Seagal until the night of the fight and Seagal was the person who told him it would work.

“When I came to Canada I met with Steven Seagal and he said ‘Machida, this kick will work.’ But I was not worried about doing it or not, only if a chance came up. I was relaxed… and dropped the kick into place. There was nothing ‘out of nothing,” said Machida.

The Internet yet again took storm after learning that Seagal had taught yet another fighter a knockout inducing, epic “Knockout of the Night” kick. Seagal takes credit for Anderson Silva‘s front kick to the face of Vitor Belfort at UFC 126.

Rumors have it that Seagal working with the members of Team Black House is a PR stunt and a marketing exercise.

Seagal though says that he is working with the members on some awesome—legal—kicks.

“There are some real different entrances that I’m working on with the guys. There are some other things that I don’t want to talk about that you guys just haven’t seen at all yet. You haven’t seen it, but it’s legal,” Seagal said.

UFC 129 Recap: Vladimir Matyushenko Wants to Rematch Tito Ortiz or Lil Nog

Success is not measured by the longevity of a career, but how much productivity one’s career is able to amount. And Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko certainly adds some truth to that statement.

Following his knockout victory over Jason Brillz at UFC 129, the Belarusian told Ron Kruck of Inside MMA that he feels accomplished to still be competing in mixed martial arts at 40 years old.

“Well it’s a big, big acheivement. For me, myself and for all the industry, for MMA, UFC and for all the fans, I am just glad it happened.”

Holding a professional record of 26-5-0, the UFC veteran has seen it all in MMA, competing in multiple organizations including, UFC, IFL, IFC and Affliction Entertainment.

And despite all the experience that he holds, Matyushenko admits that times have changed.

“It was pretty much fighting in a backyard or the parking lot, and now it ended up being this big in such a short period of time, even I’m surprised,” Matyushenko said.

After collecting a victory over Brillz, Matyushenko has now won five of his last six bouts inside the Octagon, and while he isn’t too savvy on hand picking opponents, there are two competitors who come to mind regarding his next bout.

“I have lost in the UFC to Tito Ortiz, and I have lost to ‘Lil Nog’ (Rogerio Nogueira) and I’d like to take those losses back.”

While the idea of witnessing a rematch between either legend is worth the price of admission, currently both Ortiz and Nogueira are scheduled to square off against Ryan Bader and Rich Franklin at UFC 132 and UFC 133 respectively.

In the meantime, Matyushenko will look to enjoy some time off after his most recent win while he waits for his next challenger to emerge.
