Brendan Schaub: Only Francis Ngannou Return Would Live Up To Dana White’s Tease For 2025

Dana White teased fight fans in his final UFC press conference of 2024 by claiming that there is something in the works for 2025 that will have fans losing their minds when it gets announced. Speaking after the promotion’s Fight Night event in Tampa, the UFC boss spoke about how they always manage to exceed the previous year after going all out.

Without giving anything away, he said that alongside the big fights that have already been announced for next year’s schedule, there’s something fresh off the press that nobody will be able to predict ahead of time.

“I anticipate a lot of big fights, I’ve got something in the works right now that’ll drive you [media] crazy. All you guys will be running around. I got something in the works that you will never f**ing see coming for 2025. It literally started to come together last night. Yeah, we got some fun stuff coming up.”

In a response to White’s comments, former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub attempted to speculate what this mind-blowing fight announcement could possibly be. The return of the former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov would elicit that kind of reaction in Schaub’s opinion but he also knows that “The Eagle” has made it very clear that he will not go back on his decision to retire.

One potential major shift in the MMA landscape that Schaub did pinpoint is the current status of Francis Ngannou. “The Predator” recently made his return to the cage in his PFL debut at Battle of the Giants where he stopped Renan Ferreira in the first round.

After tearing right through his Brazilian foe, there were two big questions on everyone’s mind, who is out there for Ngannou to face next and is he still the best heavyweight on the planet considering that he never lost the UFC title having vacated it when he departed the promotion? Schaub believes that Ngannou stepping back inside the Octagon to mix it up with the likes of the division’s two titleholders, Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, would come out of left field and set the bar extremely high for 2025.

“With the internet today, and like the rumors and fake news, it’s damn near impossible to blow somebody. No matter what he [White] says, when I heard them like, ‘What could it be?’ The only thing that would blow me, like blow me hard, like b*st hard, would be if it’s Francis. He has one fight left on PFL contract. He’s going to finish that out fighting who, God knows what poor soul they’re going to find to get knocked out by him.

“And then, he’ll be a free agent. If they’re like, ‘We got Francis back in the mix. Francis is going to fight the winner, guaranteed winner, of Aspinall-Jones.’ That would blow me. But that’s where I’m at. That’s very difficult to get done. Outside that, what else could it be?”

Could Conor McGregor’s Finances Force a UFC Return? Millions in Losses Monthly Claims Insider

Conor McGregor may have to limit his jet-setting around the world and month-long vacations on his superyacht.

After being found liable for the 2018 rape of Nikita Hand at a Dublin hotel, McGregor was ordered to pay the victim over $250,000 in damages and another million dollars to cover her court fees — a rather paltry amount for someone reportedly worth more than $100 million.

Unfortunately for McGregor, the damage appears to be far from done.

In the wake of the ruling, multiple companies have cut ties with the UFC megastar, including Proper No. 12, the popular brand of Irish whiskey he helped develop before selling to Proximo Spirits for $150 million in 2021. McGregor was no longer a part owner at that point, but the company kept him on as a spokesman following the buyout—a role he no longer carries as of last month’s verdict.

According to ex-fighter Brendan Schaub, Proper No. 12 was Conor McGregor’s biggest source of income, accounting for $5-10 million of his income per month.

“For him to lose [Proper 12], you’re talking about millions of dollars per month, gone. There’s no payout,” Schaub said on his official podcast. “Because when you’re accused of what [McGregor] has been accused of, that goes completely against the contract and you get no backup money, they don’t pay you a severance fee. There’s none of that. So you’re talking possibly, I don’t know how much they pay him, maybe $5-10 million dollars a month” (h/t MMA Mania).

Conor mcGregor’s lavish lifestyle could become a financial burden in the coming months

Of course, Proper No. 12 wasn’t the only company to cut ties with Conor McGregor. Multiple retail chains throughout the UK and Ireland began pulling any products associated with him off their shelves, including his Forged Irish Stout which has sponsorship deals with Matchroom Boxing and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship—another company McGregor still retains a part ownership in.

Earlier this year, McGregor was added to the popular ‘Hitman’ video game franchise as ‘The Disruptor,’ a multi-billionaire MMA fighter that players can hunt down and eliminate. That collaboration has since been extinguished by developer IO Interactive who confirmed in a statement that they would be removing all content associated with McGregor immediately.

“When you’re banking on that [money] as Conor and you’re spending the money like he’s spending … when he was coming up, $10 million changes his life,” Schaub continued. “Let’s say he buys mansions, I bet he bought a few of them. He buys these cars. Now unless he paid all cash for those, those still have a payment every month. Chances are he didn’t pay all cash. So his monthly nut, just based off what we see online, is a few million dollars a month. Most of that was taken care of from the money he was getting from Proper 12.”

“All those companies jump off, so you go from $10 million a month to zero. But the government, with your taxes, and your mortgage payments on multiple houses, and those yachts that you leased or bought, those cars that you leased or have car payments on, or your kids’ private school, or Dee’s monthly payment, whatever you pay her for shopping and whatever, or the housekeeper, and then your parents’ house, you start adding that all up … you don’t have an answer for that. And it’s a real problem.”

McGregor has been absent from the Octagon for more than three years, leading some to speculate that his current financial woes could push him into making a return, assuming the UFC is comfortable absorbing all the negative press that comes with booking someone who was recently found liable for sexual assault.

Brendan Schaub Explains Why Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Is a 'Disaster Waiting to Happen'

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson may be a lose-lose situation says former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub. The athlete discussed the highly anticipated boxing matchup on his podcast.

Brendan Schaub on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is going down on November 15 and can be watched on Netflix. ‘Iron‘ Mike Tyson is a heavyweight boxing legend who collected world titles in the 80s and 90s with thunderous knockout power. His last professional bout was in 2005 and he is now 58 years old.

‘The Problems Child’ Jake Paul is 27 years old and has a list of boxing victories over former UFC fighters. In the ring, Paul has defeated fighters such as Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley, among others.

Former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub said that Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is not a great fight for anyone involved. On his podcast, he explained:

“I love Mike Tyson. Love Jake [Paul]. I hope it f*cking crushes, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out the upside to this. Let’s go through the scenario; if you’re Jake, so you knock him out—horrible dude. What the f*ck. You just beat up an old man.

“You get knocked out—told you this guy is a joke. You get beat up by a 58-year-old. The third scenario here is it goes to a decision. That’s a disaster and nobody’s coming back. That’s a disaster business-wise for Netflix, it’s a disaster for Jake Paul—went to a decision with 58-year-old Mike Tyson. The only person who wins is Mike Tyson. He can do no wrong. He gets knocked out—he’s 58 and gets paid.

“He beats Paul—f*ck yeah. All the old guys are like, ‘Yeah!’ Goes to a decision, Tyson wins. For Netflix, dude, I don’t know. Let’s say if Tyson wins, what’s next? What are you going to do? Mike Tyson vs. Logan Paul to avenge his brother? Tyson vs. KSI? That’s the business model.” [Ht MiddleEasy]

Brendan Schaub Shocks Jorge Masvidal With Outlandish Price for Bare-Knuckle MMA

Brendan Schaub Jorge Masvidal

Brendan Schaub almost returned to MMA action, but he might have outbid himself in an attempt to cash in on a sweet payday.

Apparently, Schaub was offered to fight for Jorge Masvidal’s bare-knuckle MMA promotion but shot them an outrageous price. Without partaking in any MMA action since 2014 and now a decently successful podcaster and MMA media guy, it does make sense why Schaub would attach a pricy number to come out of retirement after a decade.

Also, ‘Big Brown’ retired for a reason. He suffered a vicious string of knockout losses towards the tail end of his UFC career and retired at the urging of friends and family, including his good buddy Joe Rogan.

Brendan Schaub was shocked when Jorge Masvidal accepted his outlandish offer

In a wild turn of events, according to Schaub, the ludicrous number that he threw out was actually accepted by Masvidal and his team. However, Schaub didn’t like the names they were throwing out at him to fight, and he backed out of the negotiations despite getting the green light on his wild price tag.

“We had Jorge Masvidal and his manager Dean [Toole] on, and I work for them now doing commentating, but that’s how that came about. They offered me a fight,” Brendan Schaub explained (H/T BJ Penn.com). “I’m like bare-knuckle MMA? They’re like, yeah. I was like you don’t have enough money. There’s no way. He goes, ‘Give us a number.’ I gave them an outlandish number and he was like dead serious, just looked me in the eye and goes ‘OK.’ I’m like what?”

“For a second, I’m like shit, I’ll just hit the road now. Get some road work in now; let’s get going; that’s an insane amount of money,” Brendan Schaub continued. “I just can’t force myself to do it. At 41, my kids, I can’t take another blow to the head. I’m good. I don’t need to be Elon Musk or ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone rich. I’m good. I’m good where I’m at. They’re like, ‘For that number you’re going to have to fight [Junior dos Santos] or Derrick Lewis.’ I’m like no, hard pass. I don’t need those problems.”
