Former UFC heavyweight turned commentator and podcaster Brendan Schaub has gained a lot of popularity in recent days after his heroic actions saved the lives of four children after a fatal car crash in Los Angeles. Schaub and a few others pulled over at a busy intersection in the city to help recovery efforts after a head-on collision that has been alleged to have been intentional and with a purpose.

Schaub and 49-year-old witness Rita Campos burst into action alongside a few other bystanders to help rescue the young family from the accident. An SUV driven by Cesar Iban Torres slammed into a car driven by his girlfriend, Aimee Garcia, and their four children, with Garcia being pronounced dead at the scene and the children suffering from minor injuries.

After Schaub’s rescue efforts went viral on social media, Campos spoke with MMA Junkie about the incident after Schaub discussed the whole situation in a recent podcast episode of “The Fighter and the Kid”.

“All of a sudden all these people were texting me the story and were like, ‘This is you. This is you he’s talking about,’” Campos said. “And then I watched (his podcast), and it just brought everything flying back. He gave me the baby, and I just kind of started focusing on the other kids. I did lose sight of Brendan at that point because that must’ve been when he left.”

Campos went on to clarify Schaub’s involvement in the rescue after some doubted his story on social media.

“I do feel his description from what I saw was accurate. He was there a minute or so before I was, but when I rolled up, he was definitely in (the act) of trying to rip the doors open.”

Campos says she cooperated with local authorities until the first responders told her she could leave the scene but stayed out of concern for the rescued kids.

While authorities haven’t officially come out and pointed to Schaub’s involvement in the rescue, it seems pretty clear that he was present and in some ways; responsible for getting some of the victims of the devastating crash out of harm’s way. It’s a remarkable story that will surely be discussed for weeks to come.

Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub told one of the craziest stories of the year on the latest episode of his podcast ‘The Fighter & The Kid’.

An emotional Schaub, who recently earned his black belt in BJJ, starts the story about nine minutes into the episode.

He starts by saying he was driving down the freeway a couple of days ago with his wife in the passenger seat. His wife notices a really nasty accident up ahead of them involving a tractor trailer. While going around the accident, Schaub notices a young child waving his arms for help on top of a mangled car. Then he immediately pulled over to investigate the situation. While running over to help the kids, another guy gets hit by a car going 60 MPH right beside them.

With gas from the tractor trailer pouring out everywhere, Schaub knew he had to act fast.

“My shoes, my jeans, are covered with gas because I’m running. It smells so much like gas… I get to the car and it’s all mangled. There is a bigger kid that kept yelling I don’t want to die and I told him you’re not going to die, buddy. I grab the car door and try and pull it down but I can’t. We have to smash this window to get him out. We break the window and pull the bigger kid through. He had a little brother in there too who I unbuckled and got out.”

“I look at the other guy and ask if there is anybody else in the car. He say I think there is one other person in the front. I look and in the front is a lady who past away. Brain matter everywhere, blood everywhere and the kid is yelling for his mom. I tell him to just look at me so he does not see it.”

Schaub eventually leaves the scene once emergency services show up. He tells local authorities his story and finds out more about the family.

They tell him the man driving the car with the kids told them that today that they were ‘all going to heaven that day’. He then got on the freeway and started driving into traffic. He eventually drove into that tractor-trailer that resulted in the kids mom dying. Schaub then speaks about how he can’t sleep at night and all he thinks about is the kids and their mother.

At the end of story he says that he is going to help pay the funeral costs for the family and try and help out the kids in whatever way he can.

Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub says he knew beforehand that YouTuber turned Boxer Jake Paul was planning on crashing his interview with Dillon Danis last year on his Food Truck Diaries show.

In a recent interview with The Schmo, Schaub said that although he wasn’t part of Paul’s water-balloon attack and troll job on Danis, he and Danis knew something was going to happen with Paul during the filming together in Los Angeles.

“I had no idea what they’re gonna do. We were doing the interview,” Schaub said. “Logan was on the week before, and one of my staff goes, ‘Oh yeah, we have Dillon on next week.’ He goes, ‘Oh, I should have Jake stop by. It’ll be fun, it’ll build the fight up…’ And I said, ‘But I have to let Dillon know.’”

“So Dillon gets in town and the night before, he stayed in Santa Monica. I go, ‘Hey dude, just so you know, Jake and Logan might stop by to do their YouTube thing and build the fight.’ And I go, ‘But I can’t have you getting set up, but I want you to know the plan, so get your mind right.’”

Schaub also said that he’s thankful that tensions didn’t escalate after Paul threw water balloons at Danis and the film crew.

Danis and Paul have been at odds for a little over a year now and have talked about fighting in a boxing match in the near future. While Paul’s next opponent following his first-round knockout of Ben Askren remains unclear, there’s no denying that the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt is in the running for a shot at him in the ring.

Paul has made plenty of enemies in the MMA community; including Danis, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, to name a few.

Paul’s interview crash of Danis is one of the tensest moments during Schaub’s time hosting Food Truck Diaries. While the moment was certainly entertaining for fans of both sides to watch, it’s fortunate that no one ended up seriously injured and that legal issues didn’t surface from it.
