Former UFC heavyweight, Brendan Schaub claims that Demetrious Johnson is down to fight YouTuber who claimed he could beat him in a ‘street fight’.

Podcast host and fitness YouTuber, Bradley Martyn recently grabbed the attention of the combat sports community. Several clips of his podcast have made the rounds in which he asks several fighters, including Nate Diaz, if they think they ‘could take him in a street fight.’

To his credit, Martyn is a very big man standing at least 6’2, weighs ‘260lbs’ and boasts some very impressive strength feats. This would probably be enough to fend off your average man, but of course not a professional fighter.

Like many uninitiated, Martyn has a brash confidence about him and assumes that because of his size he automatically possesses the upper hand.

During a recent podcast in which he was joined by fighter turned podcaster, Schaub, the subject was again brought up. Schaub used the example of former UFC flyweight champion and reigning flyweight champion, Johnson.

Schaub explained that Johnson, who probably walks around the 150lb mark while standing at 5’3 would still easily beat Martyn, and could hurt him very badly while doing so. Martyn arrogantly disagree with the idea.

In a follow up podcast, Schaub said he had spoken to Johsnon and that the 36-year-old was down to square of with Martyn.

I think the clip of us on twitter is over eight million views now of me saying that mighty mouse can beat you up,” said Schaub. Now little up on that, i spoke to mighty mouse yesterday because he reposted the clip.

“So I told mighty mouse, ‘good dude’” Schaub said in reference to Martyn. “He’s [Johnson] like ‘yeah no doubt, but tell him I’m down- it’s not going to go well.’

“He [Johnson] said ‘I’m going on vacation, so lets figure it out and ill come to LA – let me know’.”

How will it go between Demetrious Johnson and Bradley Martyn?

Former UFC standout Brendan Schaub wants to see fighters boycott the promotion’s third centennial event next year.

Though it’s still a ways away, fans are already talking about potential matchups that could go down at UFC 300, tentatively on track for April 2024. But if The Ultimate Fighter alumnus Brendan Schaub gets his wish, the event won’t happen unless the promotion makes some major changes first. Schaub’s recent call to action comes less than a week removed from the UFC’s latest judging scandal. During last weekend’s Fight Night card in Las Vegas, fans were treated to a highly entertaining five-round scrap between top-ten bantamweights Kai Kara-France and Amir Albazi.

After 25 minutes of action, the general consensus had Kara-France leaving Sin City with a win and a world title opportunity in the bag. However, two of the presiding judges, Chris Lee and Sal D’Amato, saw things differently and scored the bout 48-47 in favor of Albazi. The questionable decision drew the ire of fans and fighters, including an especially fiery response from Kara-France’s teammate, Israel Adesanya.

During a recent episode of The Schaub Show on YouTube, the ex-heavyweight contender suggested fighters band together and call for a boycott until the promotion fixes the epidemic of inept judging that is plaguing the sport. Schaub also hopes to see changes in fighter pay, another hot-button issue that has routinely been dismissed by UFC President Dana White.

“There has to be something we can do here,” Schaub said. “You can do what the SAG writers and just protest…what you do is rally the troops, do it before the big event, UFC 300, the week of…’Guess what? Unless there’s a change, we aren’t fighting. ‘… If the fighters decided to put their foot in the ground, two days and things would change.”

UFC Revenue Skyrockets While Fighter Pay Remains the Same

The promotion currently employs roughly 600 professional fighters, all of whom are fighting for their livelihood, their families, or in many cases, both. Getting every fighter to sign off on a walk-out that could potentially cost them tens of thousands of dollars does not seem feasible, though Schaub is not wrong about a change that is desperately needed.

With the promotion raking in record-breaking revenues year after year, fighter pay has seen no improvements. In fact, the promotion’s athlete costs dropped in 2022, reducing their already embarrassing revenue share to a meager 13-15%. Recently, reigning UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya called for the promotion to increase performance bonuses due to skyrocketing inflation that continues to plague the country.

The UFC has admittedly increased their bonuses from the standard $50,000 to $75,000 and even $100,000, but those have been few and far between, and are typically reserved exclusively for special events.

Brendan Schaub Doesn’t See A UFC-Bellator Crossover Happening

MMA fighter-turned-analyst Brendan Schaub isn’t convinced that the UFC and Bellator will ever partner up to host an inter-promotional event.

Bellator and Rizin held a mixed martial arts crossover event last week at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Five of Bellator’s best went head-to-head with Rizin’s best on pay-per-view. During a recent video on his YouTube channel, Schaub spoke on why he thinks an event between the UFC and Bellator wouldn’t happen. He said that the UFC doesn’t need to do business with Bellator for success.

“All these people going, “I don’t get why Dana [White] doesn’t play with Bellator and they do this crossover” cause they don’t need to,” Schaub said. “Why would the UFC change anything? They’re making more money than ever. Why would they put shine towards another organization they have nothing to do with.”

Brendan Schaub Is A Fan Of Unique MMA Events

Schaub also advised other non-UFC organizations, including Bellator, to continue to put on unique shows like crossover events.

“Do your own thing. Don’t be a cookie cutter, copycat of the UFC. This [crossover event] is completely different,” Schaub said. “I love this. Bellator and Rizin. The best of the best fight show. It’s dope. I don’t need the UFC in there. I don’t care. The UFC is never going to do it.”

Bellator president Scott Coker has been open to a crossover event but said it’s up to the UFC to make it happen. For the past three decades, the UFC has been the leader in combat sports. In 2019, they finalized an exclusive five-year television deal with ESPN. The company has never held a crossover event with another major MMA organization.
