The beef continues to build up between “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega.

Both featherweights have been taking shots at one another through the media in the past several weeks. A fight was expected to take place at the UFC’s Mexico City event, however, those plans fell through. Now, Ortega is still hoping to land a bout with Jung. As Helen Yee reports, Ortega hopes to square off with Jung at the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) inside Madison Square Garden, or UFC 243 in Las Vegas.

Jung has offered up a response to those hopes in a recent Instagram post. The former 145-pound title challenger sounds like he’s down to scrap with the jiu-jitsu ace any time, anywhere.

The matchup makes sense for both men at this point in time. Ortega comes off of a failed title bid against Max Holloway in December, where he took quite the beating against the Hawaiian striker, showing a tremendous amount of heart in the process. It was the first loss of his professional career. As for Jung, he bounced back from a nasty knockout loss to Yair Rodriguez by finishing Renato Moicano earlier this summer.

What do you make of all the back-and-forth between Jung and Ortega as of late?

UFC commentator Joe Rogan doesn’t agree with the claim that Brian Ortega could choke out lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov recently defended his title with a dominant victory over Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 this past weekend, submitting him in the third round. However, there was one moment of adversity for “The Eagle” as Poirier locked in a deep guillotine in the third round.

It looked like he was close to finishing the champion, however, Nurmagomedov remained calm and eventually got out of it. Ortega — a jiu-jitsu black belt — was watching the fight and made his thoughts clear afterwards:

The topic even came up while Rogan was watching the fight with Brendan Schaub. However, Rogan believes that wouldn’t happen simply because Ortega is small compared to Nurmagomedov:

“I disagree with Brian Ortega because he’s too small,” Rogan said. “He’s a 145-pounder. Tony Ferguson is the man.”

Whether that’s the case or not, it’s still an intriguing matchup and one we could have gotten had Ortega stepped in to face Nurmagomedov back at UFC 223 last year.

For now, the next challenger seems to be Tony Ferguson who is far from small and also happens to have a black belt in jiu-jitsu. Maybe if he were to lock in a submission on Nurmagomedov, things would be different?

What do you think?

A fight between Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung is not official yet, but it’s certainly one the former is interested in.

The two have been going back-and-forth in recent times, accusing the other of causing a potential UFC Mexico bout to fall through. Should that fight be booked, however, it is guaranteed to deliver fireworks as the pair are two of the most exciting fighters in the promotion today.

However, Ortega is confident that he’ll get the win, especially going by the recent record of “The Korean Zombie”:

“The fight isn’t official yet, but it’s one I’m interested in,” Ortega told BJPENN.com. “He’s coming off an impressive win against [Renato] Moicano, but if you look at his last five fights, it’s win, loss, win, loss, win. Looks like he’s due for another L.”

While there are no updates as of now, “T-City” is simply looking to return to his best and stay in shape. After all, it’s been nearly nine months since he last competed following a brutal TKO loss to Max Holloway last year:

“I’m not looking ahead to anything but my next fight and staying in shape with a daily training regimen,” he added. “I’m zeroed in on my current training right now.

“The Octagon is where I belong. I’m ready to get back in sooner rather than later and get back to my winning ways.”

Are you excited by a potential Ortega vs. Jung fight? Who wins?

Things are really beginning to heat up between former UFC featherweight title challengers “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega.

Recently, Ortega took part in an interview in which he claimed that a fight between himself and Jung fell through. “T-City” said things were so close that he even had his team begin to set up training camps in Mexico. However, Ortega said he’s still interested in fighting Jung, who he claimed was “talking sh*t.”

Now, Jung has offered a response of his own on his Instagram, posting quotes from Ortega’s interview, replying with the caption, “You never tried to fight in Mexico City. You lie too much.”

A fight between the pair would certainly make sense for both fighters. Ortega comes off the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career. He was outclassed by Max Holloway before a doctor stoppage after the fourth round in their featherweight title bout at UFC 231 in December. Now, after several months of recovery, Ortega is ready to get back to action.

Jung has won two of his last three contests. In his previous outing, he made quick work of Renato Moicano, knocking the Brazilian out in under a minute from South Carolina in June.

What do you think about the back-and-forth between Jung and Ortega?
