Yes, we’ve all been…gaining…(we’d use ‘winning’ if not for the nauseating overuse of the term lately)

Well, at this week’s pre UFC 129 festivities (another card that is cause for celebration), Dana White has apparently announced that five round, non-title fights are headed to the UFC. Yup, that’s right, and after you’re finished shouting ‘eff yeah’, finish it off with an ‘it’s about effin time.’ Apparently one of the deciding factors in this decision was the recent draw between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch, which if there ever was an example of the need for two more rounds, there it was.  MMA Fighting quoted the boss man saying:

“I hate draws worse than anything,” White said…”You sit there and watch a game for hours and nobody wins?” he said. “I don’t get it. That’s one thing I hate about fights, too. Draws suck.”

Yes, yes they do. The story also states that the UFC had looked at making the upcoming Brock Lesnar, Junior Dos Santos a five rounder, but eventually decided against it, as both men had already begun their preparations. Too bad, but we appreciate the UFC acknowledging that the fight should have two extra frames, and even more importantly, taking action to remove another item from our bitch list.

You’re running out of time to get some bets down on UFC 129….

Brock LesnarMoney always fascinates us. “Keeping up with the Joneses” is as American a saying as “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Whether you think that’s a good or bad thing, we have largely come to intertwine the intangible ambition of success with the more tangible goal of money. And in mixed martial arts, nobody made more money in 2010 than Brock Lesnar.

That’s according to a report from ESPN The Magazine, which culled information from 30 different sports to determine the highest paid athlete in each one.

According to the Magazine, Lesnar made $5.3 million for the two fights he participated in during 2010. That number, however, is more than $800,000 off from the final figure estimated by MMA Fighting.

Junior dos Santos said he knows exactly what he has to do to beat Brock Lesnar when the two heavyweights meet at UFC 131 in Vancouver, Canada, and the game plan shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone.

As dos Santos told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, success in this fight will depend on his ability to defend against Lesnar’s takedowns and target the former champ’s suspect chin.

“He’s a wrestler, so he feels uncomfortable when people throw punches on him,” dos Santos told Helwani. “I think his fight against Cain Velasquez shows good things for me, because I think he’s got a weak chin. I will try to use that, try to throw some punches and…try to use my boxing.”

I. Who slipped Brock Lesnar a valium? Okay, maybe it’s unfair to expect him to go all ‘Hulk smash!’ on the first day of filming, but the big man did seem especially low-key throughout the entire first episode. The clips from the rest of the season indicate that this trend may not last, which is good news for ratings even if it might not be so beneficial to his team. Lesnar is a big enough star that his name alone can probably pull viewers, but I bet Spike TV would love to poke him with a cattle prod every now and then to make sure he’s still awake.
