For the first time in his professional career, UFC welterweight prospect Kevin Jousset is set to compete in front of his compatriots.

Jousset made a splash on debut last September in Sydney, following two-division championship glory under Australia’s Hex Fight Series banner with a first-round submission at UFC 293.

The Frenchman has long trained alongside the likes of Israel Adesanya and Dan Hooker at New Zealand’s City Kickboxing, fighting exclusively in Oceania prior to his UFC signing. And having competed on United States soil for the first time in his sophomore Octagon outing, Jousset is now set for a homecoming this fall.

Per MMA Junkie’s Nolan King, “Air” has been added to the upcoming UFC Fight Night in Paris, France, on September 28. There, he’s set for a step up in competition against Bryan Battle, winner of The Ultimate Fighter 29 middleweight tournament.

Home Favorite Jousset Targets Third Straight UFC Win At The Expense Of Battle

When Jousset makes the walk to what will no doubt be a positive reception at Accor Arena, he’ll be looking to maintain his perfect UFC slate.

Jousset (10-2) lost two of his first seven pro fights, the first of which came against current top five welterweight contender Jack Della Maddalena under the Eternal MMA banner. But since a split decision setback in 2022, the 31-year-old has won five straight to have two titles in his possession, as well as a UFC contract.

And after submitting Kiefer Crosbie Down Under and outpointing Song Kenan at the Apex last December, “Air” is next tasked with stalling the welterweight ambitions of Battle (10-2, 1 NC) in his first assignment of 2024.

One fight on from his TUF triumph, “The Butcher” committed to a move down in weight, and he debuted at 170 pounds emphatically by knocking out Takashi Sato with a brutal head kick just 44 seconds into their fight. While he subsequently fell to a decision against the highly regarded Rinat Fakhretdinov, he bounced back with a 14-second knockout of Gabe Green and second-round submission of AJ Fletcher.

Having had his strong start opposite Ange Loosa earlier this year rendered null when the Swiss fighter couldn’t continue following an eye poke, Battle will look to get back to the winner’s circle by upsetting Jousset’s home crowd in the French capital later this year.

With this addition, the current fights expected to take place at the UFC Fight Night in Paris on September 28 are as follows:

  • Renato Moicano vs. Benoît Saint Denis (lightweight main event)
  • Nassourdine Imavov vs. Brendan Allen (middleweight)
  • Germaine de Randamie vs. Nora Cornolle (women’s bantamweight)
  • William Gomis vs. Joanderson Brito (featherweight)
  • Kevin Jousset vs. Bryan Battle (welterweight)
  • Daniel Barez vs. Victor Altamirano (flyweight)
  • Oumar Sy vs. Da Woon Jung (light Heavyweight)
  • Dariya Zhelezniakova vs. Ailín Pérez (women’s bantamweight)

Bryan Battle and Ange Loosa had to be separated after their fight ended in a no contest - UFC Vegas 88 Highlights

Things got intense between Bryan Battle and Ange Loosa following their co-main event at UFC Vegas 88.

After the first five minutes, Battle appeared to be in control of the fight, but things took an unfortunate turn near the one-minute mark of the second round with Battle accidentally poking Loosa in the eye. With the bout paused, Loosa could be heard telling the cageside physician that he was unable to see. As a result, the bout was called off and dubbed a no-contest.

Official Result: Bryan Battle vs. Ange Loosa ruled a no contest at 1:00 of Round 2 (accidental eye poke).

Following the official announcement from Bruce Buffer, Battle and Loosa slowly made their way toward each other and shared some unsavory words before the referee and members of the individual corners intervened, separating the two. Loosa could be heard yelling that he would “f*cking kill” Battle.

Bryan Battle delivers fiery post-fight interview at UFC Vegas 88

Once everything cooled down, Battle went scorched earth on Loosa during his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping.

Bryan Battle vs. Ange Loosa

“You can’t tell me he wasn’t looking for a way out,” Battle said. “He looked at me just a second ago looking like he wanted to fight. You wanna fight now, but you couldn’t fight a second ago? Bullsh*t. F*ckin’ p*ssy b*tch motherf*cker. I’m that dude. That’s what happens when dudes get in the cage with me. They look for ways out. They want to talk big. They want to talk all this sh*t, but once they feel this strength, they don’t want to be in here with me. He was looking for the first way out possible.”

North Carolina’s own Bryan Battle gave the hometown crowd something to celebrate at the Spectrum Center on Saturday afternoon.

‘Pooh Bear’ scored the sixth fastest welterweight finish in UFC history, dispatching Gabe Green in just 14 seconds with a big right hand. Things escalated quickly in the second of 11 scheduled fights as Green immediately came out putting pressure on Battle and swinging for the fences. Backed up against the fence, Battle stood toe-to-toe with the opposition and landed a brutal hook that sent Green crashing to the canvas.

Battle followed up the devastating blow with a couple of shots on the ground, but it was unnecessary as Green was clearly out. The moment had fans in the ‘Queen City’ going crazy as their hometown hero earned his fourth straight win inside the Octagon. Battle moved to 9-2 overall while Green dropped his second straight under the UFC banner.

Official Result: Bryan Battle def. Gabe Green via KO (strikes) at 0:14 of Round 1.

Former TUF season 28 champion Bryan Battle has picked up a 3-fight win streak since joining the UFC and is now looking to make it 4 in a row when he takes on a short-notice bout against highly regarded newcomer Rinat Fakhretdinov.

At the UFC Apex in August, Battle secured a finish with an electrifying head kick knockout against Takashi Sato. Since this fight, Battle has changed his previous nickname from “Pooh Bear” to “The Butcher”.

Battle took the time to speak with LowKick MMA’s Alex Behunin to discuss his nickname change and the upcoming short-notice bout.

On changing his nickname to “The Butcher”, Battle says:

“It’ll be ‘The Butcher’. That’s what we’re doing out here, we’re finishing these dudes and taking their hearts afterwards… As a fighter I’ve evolved so much, my mentality as a fighter has changed, my style as a fighter has changed. And so, I’m just gonna keep that attitude and keep that swagger going into this one and all the fights afterwards, I’m coming for all these dudes’ necks.”

Battle’s upcoming opponent Fakhretdinov was originally booked to fight Michael Morales; however, Morales suffered a toe fracture and was forced to pull out of the bout. When the vacant spot in this bout opened up, Battle did not hesitate to throw his name into the mix:

“When I saw (Michael) Morales pull out I didn’t even look Rinat up, I just messaged my agent and I was like I can take that fight. Rinat’s definitely a tough dude, but I’m tougher.”

Bryan Battle on the matchup with Fakhretdinov

Bryan Battle was humble in praising his opponent, but firmly believes that he will come out victorious on Saturday Night. Battle continued:

“He’s got a really good system that he’s good at executing, but I got more systems. I got answers to his problems, and you know, me preparing for him on two weeks that’s not a problem because I prepare for everybody every day. Preparing for me on two weeks that’s a problem, you know what I’m saying that’s not possible.”

“He’s a grinder, but with that being said, he doesn’t do a whole lot of different things. He kind of has certain things that he does very well… I have a lot of different ways that I can handle those things that he does very well… I’m just a matchup problem in general it’s not something I’m sweating too much. You can look for me to exploit some openings that I see on the feet. If we do end up locked up, you can look for me to stay calm and composed, not to get flustered, not to get tired, to make all the right decisions at the right times. If it hits the ground, you can look for me to be the superior grappler.”

To conclude the interview, Battle was asked for his prediction on how he would get his hand raised on Saturday Night to which he confidently stated:

“I think TKO in the second round.”

Bryan Battle vs. Rinat Fakhretdinov will be one of the most anticipated prelims on the UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Strickland card at the UFC Apex on Saturday Night. Don’t miss out as Bryan Battle looks to stretch his unbeaten streak in the UFC to 4 when he takes on opponent Rinat Fakhretdinov on only two weeks’ notice.
