It is just under two weeks until UFC fans will see the return of Nebraskan native, Bryce Mitchell (14-1 MMA) where he will face a veteran of the octagon Edson Barboza (22-10 MMA) at UFC 272 on March 5th.

Despite what many predict to be the biggest test of ‘Thug Nasty’s’ career, Mitchell seemed more than relaxed in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on ‘The MMA Hour’. Instead of promoting his next fight, Mitchell used the platform to display his view on serious political matters.

The UFC featherweight prospect started off by expressing his strong belief in being allowed to carry a firearm to protect the American people from the government, even stating that he would rather die than lose them.

“You’ve got to know why we have these guns,” Mitchell told Helwani, “Of course, it’s the hunt, of course, protect ourselves from people who break into our homes. But the reason that they’re really here, is to protect ourselves from our own government.”

“I will die before I hand these guns over to my government. I would rather die in a shootout than I would starve to death… people will not tolerate that in this country, they will not. That’s why the guns are here brother.”

Bryce Mitchell suggests guns have more of a purpose than just hunting and possession

The 27-year-old believes that’s the reason Americans are able to deny the COVID-19 vaccine unlike the rest of the world.

“These guns behind me, that’s the reason in Arkansas they don’t have forced vaccines, they can’t force they don’t have the power.”

“We’re armed to the teeth brother,” he said to Helwani, “We will not let this government inject what they say is medicine into our body, without our consent. I feel a lot of countries don’t have a lot of the same freedoms that I have.”

Although people may not agree with his political views and values, ‘Thug Nasty’ will look to continue his undefeated 5-0 winning streak in the UFC and with a further look to make a stamp on the 145-pound division with a win over ‘Junior’ on the main card at UFC 272.

Do you think Bryce Mitchell can beat Edson Barboza on his first UFC main-card appearance?

UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell has detailed facing a “drugged out” amateur fighter during his first experience inside an MMA gym at the age of 16.

Mitchell is as tough as they come. From backyard boxing matches to professional fights, “Thug Nasty” has seen and faced it all on his journey to the Octagon. That journey has allowed him to enter the group of ranked contenders at 145 pounds.

After going 9-0 on the regional scene, the Arkansas native had his chance to join the big leagues on The Ultimate Fighter: Undefeated in 2018. Despite falling short in the semifinals, Mitchell had the opportunity to make a splash on MMA’s biggest stage at the finale event, where he defeated Tyler Diamond.

Since his debut, the 27-year-old has grown from strength to strength. In four wins, he’s defeated established names like Charles Rosa and Andre Fili and recorded only the second twister submission in UFC history.

Like most in the volatile sport of MMA, the road towards the top wasn’t easy. In Mitchell’s case, it involved getting his first taste of a gym by sparring with some drug-using amateur fighters.

During a recent interview with UFC play-by-play commentator Brendan Fitzgerald, “Thug Nasty” looked back on his early days in the sport and his earliest day in an MMA facility. It’s safe to say he and his friend received a shock to the system when they were welcomed to the gym by a “drugged out” fighter.

“I quit basketball, wrestled, and then went to train in MMA. I went to this MMA gym. First, when I went in, the dude was a little bit drugged out,” said Mitchell. “And you know, he wasn’t like, crazy on it, but one of the dudes at the gym was a little bit on some shit. I tell you what, some of that shit that you can get like that, you don’t get tired, you know what I’m saying? This dude was whipping my ass when I was 16.

“Me and my buddy Tyler went into this gym, where these guys, I mean, these are rough guys man. They’re on some heavy drug usage, okay, amateur fighters, pretty high ranked. Me and my buddy walked in this gym, my buddy gets kicked in the fucking head,” Mitchell added. “Tyler’s a tough dude, Tyler kicked my ass one time in training. He got kicked in the head and then I was up to spar that guy next, that kicked Tyler in the head; dropped him. And I was like, ‘Oh shit…’ I’m going up against this guy, and I didn’t know he was drugged out, but this motherfucker was all ripped up, muscles and shit, and he doesn’t get tired. He didn’t drop me, but he got me pretty good. I’m, telling ya, it was rough.”

It’s certainly no mystery where Mitchell got his toughness from, and he’ll certainly need to have that on full display when he returns to action next month.

Mitchell Will Return To Action At UFC 272

Mitchell hasn’t entered the Octagon since his October 2020 victory over Fili. After well over a year on the sidelines, “Thug Nasty” will be looking to extend his unbeaten professional record in 2022 and climb closer towards the top of the featherweight ladder, starting with a victory over UFC veteran Edson Barboza.

The #11-ranked Mitchell will face the Brazilian legend at UFC 272 on March 5. While he’s impressed on his way to the top 15, a win over Barboza would certainly be the biggest of Mitchell’s career to date and would firmly establish him as a top contender in a stacked 145-pound weight class.

Who do you think will have their hand raised at UFC 272, Bryce Mitchell or Edson Barboza?

Bryce Mitchell took to social media to reveal he wanted to fight the host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah.

Not one for normally calling on celebrities to fight, Thug Nasty revealed it was Noah’s comments towards the ‘average working man’ that gave him the fuel he needed.

The video can be found here:

“sumone tag this fool trevor noah. lettem kno i wanna do a charity fite. haha it would b funnier than any of that crap he said on comedy central thats for sure. since hes an entertainer mayb hell take this grand opportunity. and no i dont hate him i just wanna give him a feel of how hard the average workin man hits. he wouldnt b so quick to make fun of us. and God bless yall fitin for our freedoms”

Trevor Noah made comments towards Canadian truck drivers who have lost their jobs which didn’t sit well with Mitchell. In the full video, Mitchell goes on to say he’s willing to take on Noah with his hands behind his back and that any money that would potentially be made from this fight would all be going to charity.

Bryce Mitchell Vs. Edson Barboza

Although Bryce Mitchell clearly wants to take on Trevor Noah in a charity fight later down the line, he’s got an immense obstacle to try and get through at UFC 272 in the form of Edson Barboza. Mitchell will be looking to extend his unbeaten streak to 15-0 and his stint inside the UFC to 6-0 with a victory over the Brazilian. Barboza an experienced veteran inside the cage will be looking to bounce back from his TKO loss to Giga Chikadze and hopes to take some of the hype away from Bryce Mitchell and use it to spur on his own aspirations as he enters his 27th fight in the promotion.

Who do you see leaving with their hand raised at UFC 272?

UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell is finding out the hard way that there will always be music critics, even if they’re in your own family.

Mitchell, an undefeated prospect who has emerged as a UFC fan favorite, recently put out his first rap mixtape Pasture Fire on social media. Fans gave “Thug Nasty” mostly rave reviews for his first musical endeavor.

But not everyone is a fan of Mitchell’s music, including his own mother. During a recent interview with MMA journalist Helen Yee, Mitchell revealed an awkward moment he had when his mom commented on his rap mixtape.

“I was playing my music in the car and rolled up to my mom’s house. Was going to say hi, eat and everything. I pulled up and I didn’t know she was out in the yard,” Mitchell said. “She hates rap music. I had my mixtape playing, practicing the words. My song’s playing as I park, and she yells ‘Turn that nasty s**t off, I don’t like all that rap stuff!’ I just couldn’t help but laugh because she was talking about my music.

“I turned the music right off, I know better than to tell my mom. I just laughed it off. She don’t like it, but that’s alright. It’s not for everyone.”

Mitchell is set to return to the Octagon at UFC 272 against Edson Barboza. He has been sidelined since late 2020 due to a variety of circumstances, including injury issues.

Mitchell has called for fights against any willing challenger, including grappling specialist Ryan Hall. He’ll get the opportunity to move up in the featherweight division against a tough out in Barboza.

Meanwhile, Mitchell isn’t just focused on his MMA ambitions. He wants to prove that his recent musical journey isn’t just an antic and that he’s here to stay on the mic.

UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell talked about his upcoming opponent Edson Barboza in an interview with LowKick MMA.

Mitchell is expected to face off against Barboza on the March 5 event. Mitchell has been out of action with an injury since October of 2020. The undefeated Mitchell won his last fight against Andre Fili at UFC Fight Night 181 to bring his record to 14-0. He revealed in the interview that he has just started training a couple of months ago due to his injury.

Mitchell had a few fights on the table and as he said “he’d fight anyone”, but he was offered Barboza which excited him.

“It definitely excites you, and you better be ready when you’re fighting Edson Barboza. You know what he does to people. He spin kicks their head off, ya know? I’ve watched him for a long, long time, he’s been doing this for a long time.”

Bryce Mitchell touched on the style differentials between Edson Barboza and himself in the interview as well

“I think I’m going to win and that’s the most important thing…The fight’s going to start on the feet, so we’re definitely going to stand and all my fights started on the feet, so I stood with everybody that I go in there to fight. He’s not going to be any different. He ain’t fight any body exactly like me. There’s people that do stuff that I do, but he ain’t fight me before.”

Edson Barboza is a step up in competition for Mitchell, and is still one of the most dangerous strikers in the featherweight division. He is 2-2 in the division and many would argue that he should be 3-1.

Mitchell also predicted how the outcome between Barboza and himself would play out.

“I’m gonna cook him to the bone. It ought to be [a finish], not many people finish him. He’s hard to put away and if I put him away, especially in a certain manner, it’s pretty undeniable that I have a good skill set. Get a big finish, then a couple more and get the title shot. That’s what I’m wanting to do.”

Bryce Mitchell talked about his potential rap career in an interview with LowKick MMA.

“Thug nasty” dropped his rap single ‘Darkansas’ to praise from the entire MMA community.

The UFC featherweight quickly followed that up by releasing a seven-song mixtape titled ‘Pasture Fire

Mostly all the feedback to his rap music has been positive and Mitchell acknowledged that in the interview.

“I’ve seen a ton of positive stuff, I mean just, people really really like it and that’s good. I’ll just keep putting stuff out there and maybe it will just get more popular over time. The feedback’s been really good for the most part, but there’s always people that don’t like it, but my music ain’t for them.”

The song and album were impressive and it is obvious that Mitchell has some skill when it comes to rapping. He could quite possibly be the best MMA rapper in the game.

Bryce Mitchell Is Open To Touring Around The World

“Sh*t I’d do that. Whenever Weibel sets that up for me. I can’t do all that. Yeah, he gotta do all that. They are trying to get me on Spotify and I’ve got a hit single I could drop right now brother. It’s money and it’s called ‘Love Gone’, but it’s a remix of a song that’s already out there. The guy that sings it is a guy called Young Jairo. It’s a great song. I messaged him and asked if I could use a remix of his song.”

Mitchell stated that Lil Wayne was his biggest influence since he listened to him the most growing up. He also credited 50 Cent and Eminem as well while revealing he is open to the idea of doing a rap battle.

“I get paid to fight people, you think I’m scared to do a rap battle for some money? People try to kill me with their bare hands, they pay me some money you can say whatever you want and I’ll spit some fire back at you.”

The MMA streets may just need a Tyron Woodley vs ‘Thug Nasty’ rap battle in the future.
