Undisputed world champion boxer, Canelo Alvarez has issued a stark warning to professional footballer and Argentine international captain, Lionel Messi, after footage emerged of the Paris Saint Germain forward wiping the floor of his Argentinian dressing room with a Mexican flag following the national’s side win at the FIFA World Cup.

Alvarez, a native of Jalisco, currently boasts a 58-2-2 professional record, most recently defeating Kazakh puncher, Gennady Golovkin in the pair’s trilogy fight back in September of this year. The victory ensured Canelo retained his super middleweight championships to boot.

As for Messi, the former Barcelona wide man has featured prominently in Argentina’s campaign at the winter’s FIFA World Cup – scoring in both a 1-2 defeat to Saudi Arabia, and netting the first of two goals as Argentina ran out 2-0 winners against Mexico.

However, in the aftermath of the pivotal victory for Argentina, footage emerged showing Messi kicking the floor of the team’s dressing room in Qatar, with a Mexican flag under his feet – leading to a stark warning issued from championship boxer, Canelo.

“Did you see (Lionel) Messi cleaning the floor with our shirt and flag???” Canelo Alvarez tweeted. “He better pray to God that I don’t find him. Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico! I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bullsh*t that Messi pulled.”

Expected to rematch Bulgarian light heavyweight champion, Dmitry Bivol next year in a bid to avenge an upset defeat back in May on points, Alvarez’s sole other professional loss came in the form of a majority decision loss against multiple-time, multiple-weight world champion, the retired, Floyd Mayweather back in 2013 – when Alvarez was just 23 years of age.

Dana White claims Canelo Alvarez x Gennady Golovkin 3 ‘happened too late’, comments on PPV buyrate

UFC president, Dana White has claimed that last weekend’s trilogy title fight between middleweight kingpin, Canelo Alvarez, and former champion, Gennady Golovkin “happened too late” in the pair’s respective careers, as well as speculating on the reported buyrate as a direct result of late matchmaking.

Sharing the squared circle for the third time last weekend at the T-Mobile Arena, Canelo managed to turn in a one-sided unanimous decision win over three-time foe, Golovkin – after scoring a prior close decision win in the pair’s rematch.

Initially fighting back in September 2017, Canelo and Golovkin battled over the course of 12 rounds en route to a split draw, as pundits questioned the scorecards in both the first and second bout between the duo.

Speaking following last night’s Contender Series event at the UFC apex facility, promotional president, Dana White reacted to reports that Canelo x Golovkin 3 drew 575,000 pay-per-view buys, claiming that the reason likely comes due to untimely matchmaking in the pair’s rivalry.

“Yeah, 100 percent,” Dana White told assembled media during his post-fight media availability. “The fight (Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin 3) was too late. That fight should have happened four years ago.”

White’s comments come off the back of prior criticism from former boxing world champion and Golden Boy Promotions leader, Oscar De La Hoya – who lambasted Canelo’s performance and claimed Golovkin was too old to be competing at the highest level.

“The truth is everyone is afraid of speaking the truth, the fight (between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin) was a f*cking dud,” Oscar De La Hoya tweeted. “GGG was old ass (sic) f*ck and Canelo (Alvarez) can’t hold (Bernard) Hopkins’ jockstrap.”

Canelo Alvarez managed to rebound from defeat with his win over Gennady Golovkin

With this month’s win, Canelo rebounded from just his second career loss after he dropped a unanimous decision defeat against Dmitry Bivol back in May in a pursuit for the WBA light heavyweight crown.

Oscar De La Hoya has taken issue with middleweight kingpin and former Golden Boy Promotion’s client, Canelo Alvarez’s unanimous decision win over Kazakhstan native, Gennady Golovkin in the pair’s trilogy matchup over the weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada – describing the capping matchup as a “f*cking dud”.

De La Hoya, a former multiple-time world champion himself, ripped former promotional star, Alvarez for his second career win over the veteran, Golovkin, as well as claiming the latter was “old”.

Thrice sharing the squared circle, Canelo first met with Golovkin back in September 2017, with the duo battling over the course of 12 rounds to a controversial split decision draw.

The following year in the same month, Canelo managed to defeat Golovkin – handing the Kazakh his first career loss in another dubious and controversial majority decision effort.

Canelo Alvarez cruises to one-sided judging win over Gennady Golovkin

Sharing the ring with Golovkin last weekend in the third matchup between the two, Canelo Alvarez, who successfully defended his five championships, turned in a rather one-sided unanimous decision win over the former, who was questioned for his sudden lax in output compared to his prior fights with the Mexico favorite.

Sharing his thoughts on the blockbuster pairing, De La Hoya lambasted the fight between Canelo and Golovkin, as well as claiming former world champion, Bernard Hopkins was a much better fighter than the former, in a now-deleted tweet.

De La Hoya was scheduled to make his boxing return last year as part of a Triller Fight Club event against former UFC light heavyweight champion, Vitor Belfort, however, was replaced by former boxing champion, Evander Holyfield on short notice after testing positive for COVID-19.

Canelo Alvarez put a decisive end to his rivalry with Gennady Golovkin with a dominant win in the trilogy bout.

Going into the bout off a loss to Dmitry Bivol, Canelo was looking to turn his fortunes back to winning ways against Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After two close-fought controversial matches, the pair returned for what looked like the final outing between the two.

Canelo got off to a strong start early on in the fight and had a commanding first eight rounds before Bivol picked up the pace. However, it was a bit too late for GGG as he could not do enough. He lost out on the judges’ scorecards unanimously in what many would consider a shockingly close result.

Canelo Alvarez reveals he needs surgery for his left hand

During the post-fight interview, Canelo Alvarez shared his thoughts on the trilogy win over Golovkin.

“I’ve gone through some very difficult things in my life,” Canelo said. “The only thing you can do is try and continue to move forward. I’ve gone through difficult times recently with my defeats to comeback and show humility. He’s a really good fighter. I know he’s strong. We are here, I’m glad to share the ring with him. I’m going to keep moving forward to keep my legacy strong. I know he’s a tough fighter but I’m glad I learned from everything. I’m not good from my left hand so I need surgery but I’m good. I’m a warrior. It bothered me a lot. I can’t hold a glass.”

Canelo is looking to avenge his loss to Dmitry Bivol

Canelo also talked about his defeat to Bivol and declared that he would seek redemption next.

“It’s very important for my legacy and for me (to avenge the loss to Bivol), for my country, for my family, and for everything, it’s very important. I will beat him.”

On Saturday night, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Canelo Alvarez and ‘Triple G’ Gennadiy Golovkin met for their highly anticipated trilogy bout with the Super Middleweight World Championship on the line. After a draw in their first meeting and Alvarez’s closely-contested victory in the rematch, the pair came together once again to finally settle one of boxing’s biggest rivalries.

In the opening round, Alvarez came out putting pressure on Golovkin, but ‘Triple G’ held his ground and worked to establish his jab. Golovkin implemented a fairly slow pace that followed in the second round as Canelo Alvarez landed a nice hook on Golovkin. Just under a minute to go in the second, Alvarez lands another solid right hook and an overhand right as ‘Triple G’ struggles to find his target. Alvarez began to open up in the third, being more aggressive and beginning to target the body. After three rounds, Alvarez appeared to be in control, landing with the jab, controlling the pace and rendering Golovkin’s offense ineffective thus far.

Coming out for the fourth, Alvarez remains a step ahead of Golovkin and continues to bring an aggressive pace over the 40-year-old challenger. Canelo Alvarez clearly has the speed advantage as ‘Triple G’ is unable to land anything beyond the occasional jab. 25-seconds to go in the round, Alvarez throws a thunderous right that Golovkin partially blocks, but is unable to answer as the fourth comes to a close. More of the same in the fifth round as Alvarez closes it with a big overhand right followed by a left hook that gets the attention of Golovkin.

As the sixth round closes, ‘Triple G’ is still hesitant to pull the trigger and the crowd is beginning to get a bit restless with the lack of activity from the challenger. The seventh round comes and goes with Canelo Alvarez continuing his control. ‘Triple G’ is beginning to look a bit dejected and it’s clear that Golovkin can’t keep up with the speed of Alvarez as the bell sounds indicating the end of the eighth round.

In the ninth, ‘Triple G’ came out, likely sensing time was running out and began to let his hands go, backing up Alvarez briefly. Golovkin began to stalk Alvarez, pushing him to the ropes as the chamipon returned fire. It was the first round where Golovkin appeared to have the advantage. As the competitive tenth round closes, an accidental headbutt opens up a small cut on the right eye of Alvarez. After another competitive round in the eleventh, both fighters come out swinging in the twelvth and final round.

Alvarez continues moving forward while Golovkin appears content to counterstrike and simply cross the finish line. Each time the fighters get close, ‘Triple G’ clinches, hoping to avoid any additional damage as the final seconds tick away. As the final bell sounds, the two fighters embrace in the middle of the ring and await the official decision.

Official Result: Canelo Alvarez def. Gennadiy Golovkin via unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 115-113)
