The UFC has announced two fan favorite fights for one of their upcoming events.

The promotion announced on Friday afternoon that former WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje would fight fellow lightweight contender Dustin Poirier as well as a welterweight bout between Carlos Condit and Matt Brown. These fights are slated to take place at UFC on FOX 29 (UFC Glendale).

Going into Brown’s bout against Diego Sanchez on the main card of UFC Fight Night 120, he was on a three-fight stoppage skid and made it clear that this would be his retirement fight. As seen in the fight, he broke that losing streak by landing a devastating elbow strike to knock out the always tough Sanchez.

Just four years ago, they were booked against each other at UFC on FOX 9, but Brown sustained a back injury that forced him out of the fight. The bout never got re-booked.

Gaethje has been up and down under the UFC banner as he scored a TKO win over Michael Johnson while he lost by second-round TKO to fellow The Ultimate Fighter 26 coach Eddie Alvarez last month at UFC 218.

On the flip side, Poirier came back strong after his recent no-contest against Alvarez by scoring a third-round TKO win over Anthony Pettis in November.

The event is slated to take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The main card will air on FOX at while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 at and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

It turns out that Matt Brown is not retiring after all as he has his next fight lined up.

Brown dropped a big hint about his next fight early on Thursday and now a report has surfaced online from MMAWeekly.com that reports the UFC is looking to book a fight between Brown and former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit at a Fight Night event that is slated to take place on April 14.

As of this writing, there’s has been no date or location revealed for this event. Here is what Brown had to say on his official Twitter account:

“When I said I was retiring, I never said how long… Looks like it won’t be as long as I planned either.”

The story leading into Brown’s bout against Diego Sanchez on the main card of UFC Fight Night 120 on November 11th, 2017 at Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia was that it would be his last fight.

Going into it, Brown was on a three-fight stoppage skid and made it clear that this would be his retirement fight.

As seen in the fight, he broke that losing streak by landing a devastating elbow strike to knock out the always tough Sanchez.

Brown is still interested in fighting as he noted after his most recent bout that he would be interesting accepting a bout agreement against the former interim champion due to their history. Now, it appears that he will get his wish.

Just four years ago, they were booked against each other at UFC on FOX 9, but Brown sustained a back injury that forced him out of the fight. The bout never got re-booked.

5. Carla Esparza Isn’t Done At The Top

Former women’s flyweight champion Carla Esparza may be several years removed from being a title holder, but on Saturday she proved she’s still a top contender at 115 pounds.

”The Cookie Monster” took the fight to Cynthia Carrillo, who entered the bout as the prohibitive favorite. Esparza used her wrestling and savvy veteran know-how to get past Carrillo, who was clearly the bigger fighter between the two.

And Esparza holds a submission win over the current women’s flyweight champ Rose Namajunas from back in 2014, and with the woman who brutally took the belt from Esparza out of the picture for now, any victory could put her in the title mix at 115 pounds.

UFC 219 Results: The Real Winners and Losers from Cyborg vs. Holm Fight Card

Each fighter in the main event of UFC 219 needed something very specific from the other. Each one had things in her core identity that perfectly filled in the gaps of her opponent’s.

Holly Holm has fame and cross-demographic admiration. Cris Cyborg has dominance, an aura of true greatness.

Make no mistake: This went beyond Cyborg’s featherweight belt. The champ wants Holm’s profile, to finally step into the spotlight as the fighter to watch in women’s MMA, no matter your interest level in the sport as a whole. Holm wants Cyborg’s MMA gravitas, a legacy that extends beyond that Ronda Rousey head kick.

The stakes couldn’t be clearer. It was just a matter of who brought home the spoils.

It was a compelling matchup in and out of the cage in the main event in Las Vegas. But the intrigue was dense across this relatively brisk 10-fight lineup. In the co-main, super-phenom Khabib Nurmagomedov continued his halting climb toward a lightweight title bout when he returned (again) from injuries and bad weight cuts to face one of the best strikers in the entire UFC in Edson Barboza.

And don’t forget about the return of Carlos Condit. The Natural Born Killer is less active than he once was. A collision with the excellent Neil Magny would determine if he still has it.

As always, the final stat lines only reveal so much. These are the real winners and losers from UFC 219. For the literal-minded among us, full results appear at the end. And hey…happy new year.
