Carlos Condit is in a bit of a slump at this point in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

The former interim UFC welterweight champion is currently on a four fight losing-streak. From once competing in the glory days of MMA and standing toe-to-toe with the likes of Georges St-Pierre, Nick Diaz, Johny Hendricks and more.

“The Natural Born Killer” is now on a downhill trend in regards to his Octagon career, as his last outing was a second round submission loss to Alex Oliveira. The skid has been so bad that Condit was at one point considering retirement from fighting.

It looks like JacksonWink MMA striking coach Brandon Gibson has an idea up his sleeve. He revealed on The MMA Hour that he’s sending Condit to Tristar Gym in Canada to train with Bellator MMA welterweight champion Rory MacDonald (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I’m actually sending Carlos Condit up to Tristar,” Gibson said. “He’s gonna get a little work in with Rory and (Tristar head coach) Firas (Zahabi) and help Rory for the Mousasi fight.

“So I’m happy that Carlos gets to go out there and get a new look and pick up some new tools and get a new atmosphere and environment.”

MacDonald has flourished since departing the UFC. He has back-to-back victories under the Bellator banner, the latter earning him the promotion’s welterweight title. He will now challenge for his second title in Bellator MMA.

“The Red King” is slated to face fellow former UFC fighter Gegard Mousasi for the middleweight title on September 29th.

Carlos Condit Refuses To Retire From Fighting

Condit doesn’t plan on walking away just yet.

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit has had a rough go of it inside the Octagon for the past several years.

Once on a five-fight win streak from 2009-2012, Condit earned himself a welterweight unification bout against then-undisputed 170-pound champion Georges St-Pierre. He lost that fight via unanimous decision at UFC 154.

His next Octagon appearance saw him drop a unanimous decision to Johny Hendricks in a welterweight title eliminator four months later. Condit would win two of his next three fights, the defeat being a second round TKO loss to Tyron Woodley after injuring his knee in the second round and being unable to continue.

Condit hasn’t had a win since defeating Thiago Alves via second round TKO (doctor stoppage) in May of 2015. Since then he has been riding a four-fight losing streak.

The first being a back-and-forth five round war with Robbie Lawler for the welterweight title, followed by a quick first round submission loss to Demian Maia, then a December decision loss to Neil Magny.

Condit’s last fight occurred in April when he was submitted by Charles Oliveira in the second round via guillotine.

According to a report from MMA Junkie, Condit is looking to return to the cage by the end of the year. Some might’ve expected the 34-year-old veteran to hang his gloves up by now, but Condit’s manager, Abraham Kawa, confirms The Natural Born Killer should be ready to fight again by the end of the year.

Former interim UFC champion Carlos Condit nearly had a much-needed victory in his short notice co-main event bout with Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira at last Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 29.

However, as can happen in mixed martial arts (MMA), “The Natural Born Killer” saw victory slip from his grasp and turn to defeat in the second round when a vicious upkick from the Brazilian ‘Cowboy’ shifted the bout’s momentum and opened the doorway for a fight-ending guillotine choke from Oliveira.

Instead of a rebound win, Condit was left pondering his MMA future following a four-fight skid.

Once arguably the sport’s most dependable finisher, he’s not scored a stoppage since his win over similarly fading Thiago Alves in 2015 and had even contemplated retirement following his submission loss to Demian Maia after a narrowly failed title bout versus then-champ Robbie Lawler that January.

For a fighter like the “Natural Born Killer,” getting choked out was not a usual occurrence, and he recently reacted to the brutal loss in an emotionally honest assessment of the defeat and current status on his official Instagram page:

“Post choke out, where the fuck am I , WTF happened, feeling kinda warm and fuzzy , hope I didn’t just piss my shorts on live TV , thousand yard stare. I’ve posted plenty of pictures looking like a Badass. Triumphant and powerful… But here’s the flip side, crumpled and weak in defeat. Rough day at the office ?

Fuck it though, I had fun. I trained my ass off and I came to fight. This is what leaving it all out there looked like on Saturday. Much respect to my opponent and his team. Thank you for taking the fight on short notice. Congratulations and best of luck in the future.

I don’t know what’s next guys… I still love this game, and most days I still feel that fire, I absolutely love what it do, but maybe my time has passed. I don’t know the answer. this is what I know, this is my passion. I will never stop training, and If that leads me back to the the octagon, you know I’ll try to make it bloody for ya.

Right now I’m looking forward to summer shenanigans with my sons and to expanding @hundredhandscoffee .”

Condit’s head and heart seem to be halfway in the fighting game and halfway out, a tough spot to be in for any pro athlete, especially one whose downfall leads to the massive amount of physical damage as that of an elite MMA fighter.

It simply cannot be denied that he’s one of the most beloved, old-school fighters for his sheer willingness to throw down in some of the best fights the UFC and WEC have ever seen, and his commitment to the fight game also should never go unnoticed.

If that’s waning now after his decorated career and mounting defeats, well, we simply couldn’t blame him for stepping down if he feels the time is right.

Do you believe one of the UFC’s best-ever welterweights should call it a day in MMA?

The end may be near for the mixed martial arts career of Carlos Condit.

This past Saturday night (April 14), Condit took on Alex Oliveira. The welterweight scrap was UFC Glendale‘s co-main event. “The Natural Born Killer” was in search of his first victory since May 2015.

The opening round was competitive, but things went downhill in the second stanza. During a back-and-forth grappling exchange, Oliveira was able to get in a dominant position and he elbowed Condit to the side of the head, leaving a sizable cut. The two scrambled and “Cowboy” was able to lock in a guillotine choke to eventually force the tap.

This is Condit’s fourth straight defeat. It has been quite the fall from grace for the former UFC interim welterweight champion. While Condit admitted his heart wasn’t in his previous bout with Neil Magny, he certainly fought with pride against Oliveira.

It still wasn’t enough to earn him a victory and now Condit is wondering whether or not he can still compete. He took to Instagram to post the following:

In his four-fight skid, Condit has fallen to Robbie Lawler, Demian Maia, Magny, and Oliveira. While his bout with Lawler earned “Fight of the Year” honors, that was the last fight where Condit looked to be in true form. In his last nine fights, Condit has gone 2-7.

If this is it for “The Natural Born Killer,” then he’ll leave the sport with a professional record of 30-12. Of his 30 victories, 15 of them have come by way of knockout. He also has 13 submission wins.

Is this the end of Carlos Condit as an active competitor?

Alex Oliveira Says He Choked Carlos Condit Unconscious At UFC on FOX 29

In the co-main event of last night’s (April 14, 2018) UFC on FOX 29 from Glendale, Arizona, Alex Oliveira made the most of a short-notice opportunity, submitting Carlos Condit in the second round of a bout he accepted just a few weeks ago.

And although Condit tapped, Oliveira claims that “The Natural Born Killer” was unconscious for a few seconds:

“Yeah, he went to sleep, and I changed grips on him, and he woke up, and I had to finish it, so I went and tightened it again,” Oliveira told MMAjunkie. “And then he tapped.”

Condit certainly displayed incredible toughness, however, as he attempted to fight off the choke, bur “Cowboy” knew all he had to do was be patient and take his time:

“Yeah, if I stopped and the judges didn’t give me the victory, I had to put on the pressure,” he said.

This win could quite possibly be the biggest of Oliveira’s career and the Brazilian has now won five of his last seven fights. However, it’s interesting to note that the circumstances surrounding the fight weren’t exactly ideal for Oliveira.

Not only did he accept the fight on short notice, but “Cowboy” was dealing with some personal issues as well:

“One of my aunts died as soon I got here,” he said. “My uncle’s in the hospital. I don’t even know how he is, but you know, I had to come and fight.”

Regardless, he got the job done and he now appears to be focused solely on the next task at hand:

“A week of rest, and then I’ll start training again, and I’ll be … training for the next one,” he said.
