Charles Oliveira plans October return, Arman Tsarukyan title rematch: 'I really want that'

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira has revealed he expects news regarding his return to action to come soon – as he targets both a comeback as soon as October, and an interim title rematch with former-foe, Arman Tsarukyan.

Oliveira, the current number two ranked divisional contender, most recently featured at UFC 300 back in April, suffering a controversial split decision loss against Armenian contender, Tsarukyan in a close defeat in the pair’s officially billed title-eliminator.

Expected to make his return in the main event of UFC 308 in a title rematch against common-foe, Islam Makhachev next, Tsarukyan saw the pairing fall to the wayside amid an unspecified arm injury for the Russian, who may be ruled out until the beginning of next year.

“Charles Oliveira says that “something new will come out soon” regarding fight news, and says he thinks he’ll fight in October or November,” Championship Rounds posted on their official X account. “He also has expressed interest in a rematch against Arman Tsarukyan: “That would be good, I really want that.”

While Charles Oliveira has stressed his desire to take on Tsarukyan in a rematch title fight – would-be common-opponent, Dustin Poirier has also revealed if push came to shove, he would welcome the chance to take on his American Top Team stablemate for gold, too.

“I’m supposed to have surgery on my nose in October but like, if I’ve made a decision or something popped up I could push it back or whatever,” Dustin Poirier said. “I’m just thinking, who is there for me to fight, but I’ve just got to do the 30 days, get in shape and get back on the mats hard, I haven’t been able to grapple.”

“I wonder what they’re [the UFC] are going to do, is Arman (Tsarukyan) gonna continue to wait for Islam (Makhachev)?” Dustin Poirier continued. “I don’t know when Islam’s gonna be back but I saw a thing that said he might have to have surgery so we’ll see, man. The lightweight division has been so crazy over these past years. Yeah for sure [an interim title fight with Tsarukyan] interests me.”

Charles Oliveira dating ice spice and taylor swift

Despite ongoing rumors, Charles Oliveira has claimed he is not dating Ice Spice or Taylor Swift. The Brazilian-born former UFC champion has had an incredible career inside the UFC and many fans believe that ‘Do Bronx’ is dating one of, if not both, of these pop stars.

Charles Oliveira is Dating Ice Spice and Taylor Swift

Ice Spice is a popular rapper who has risen to prominence over the past few years in the music industry. Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop stars of the 20th century. Both Swift and Spice have been embroiled in ongoing hearsay that they are dating the former lightweight king ‘Do Bronx’ Charles Oliveira.

The Taylor Swift rumor began on X when MMA journalist Ben Davis claimed in a report that the two were an item. Taylor Swift did not immediately respond and Charles Oliveira could not be found for comment.

Shortly after, it was reported that the Brazilian UFC champion and rapper Ice Spice had apparently broken up. This came as a surprise as they were not publicly dating. TMZ was the apparent source but could not be reached for comment.

Charles Oliveira responded to the Ice Spice story and said “Wat?” And later added “Wat²?” The man had clearly gotten over his ex because he next responded, “Who?”

These stories were recently brought back into the public consciousness because, during an award ceremony, it seems Ice Spice shouts out to thank ‘Do Bronx.’

Nina Drama was able to get to the bottom of these stories and ask the man himself. In an interview, the Brazilian Charles Oliveira claims that he does not know who either Ice Spice or Taylor Swift are. On X, he adds that he is married and is uncertain where the rumors began. Ice Spice and Taylor Swift have yet to comment on these ongoing rumors.

Brazil’s ‘Do Bronx’ Charles Oliveira is a fan favorite among MMA fans. His story of using combat sports to get out of poverty resonates with sports followers around the globe. He is best known for his dangerous submission game but is celebrated for his action-packed fights.

Do Bronx’ Charles Oliveira is looking to find his next opponent. The Brazilian-born athlete can’t quite make up his mind so he asked his fans who he should face next. The former champion is looking to bounce back from his split decision loss into a major fight.

Charles Oliveira Next Fight

On Instagram, Oliveira asked his followers who he should face next. He listed eight potential opponents: Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Islam Makhachev, Arman Tsarukyan, Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje, Alexander Volkanovski, and Colby Covington.

Ireland’s Conor McGregor is one of the most popular figures in MMA history having been a former two-division champion. McGregor vs. Charles Oliveira would be a great action-packed matchup. Dustin Poirier is perenially a top-ranked fighter, the two met already with the lightweight title on the line. Islam Makhachev is the current lightweight champion who took the title off of ‘Do Bronx.’

Arman Tsarukyan is just off of a win against Oliveira, via a split decision. ‘Blessed’ Max Holloway, the former featherweight king, is an exciting figure but is likely booked already. The brawling Justin Gaethje, and BMF champion, could rematch Charles Oliveira. The former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has been bouncing up to lightweight with more frequency lately. Lastly, The Brazilian athlete lists Colby Covington, an outspoken welterweight contender who is not currently booked.

Charles Oliveira Record

‘Do Bronx’ Charles Oliveira is always an action fighter. As a young man, he developed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills and has flexed these to a dangerous degree. Currently, he holds the record for the most submission wins in UFC history with an impressive 16. The 34-year-old Charles Oliveira has a record of 34-10-0 1 NC. Overall, he has won 21 bouts by way of submission and would later add striking skills to his repertoire and now has 10 victories by knockout.

What makes the career of Oliveira so impressive is that he reinvented himself after struggling. He won some one-night tournaments in Brazil before making his UFC debut at just the age of 20. He struggled in the featherweight division, and his career was plagued with injuries. Eventually, he moved up to lightweight then went on an impressive 11-fight win streak, and picked up UFC gold along the way.

Since losing his lightweight title to Islam Makhachev, he has knocked out Beneil Dariush and had a split-decision loss to Tsarukyan. Now, he is looking for another exciting matchup in his next UFC fight.

Charles Oliveira lost a razor-close decision to Arman Tsarukyan last time out at UFC 300, and he’s now looking for a new opponent.

With 19 post-fight bonuses, the Brazilian’s easily one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC and there are several intriguing matchups for him.

Oliveira bagged the UFC lightweight championship by beating Michael Chandler in May 2021. He defended it against Dustin Poirier before being stripped after missing weight prior to his victory over Justin Gaethje.

Since failing to regain the title in his clash with Islam Makhachev, he’s defeated Beneil Dariush and is looking for another high-profile win to get a another shot at the gold.

From Makhachev to Colby Covington, here are all the fighters that Oliveira is open to facing in his UFC return…

Oliveira Eyes Rematch Against Makhachev, Also Open To Money Fights With McGregor, Covington, Poirier

Oliveira recently posted training footage on Instagram and asked his fans to choose his next opponent. He’s willing to fight the following names on the UFC roster:

  • Islam Makhachev
  • Arman Tsarukyan
  • Dustin Poirier
  • Conor McGregor
  • Max Holloway
  • Justin Gaethje
  • Alexander Volkanovski
  • Colby Covington

Alongside the list, Oliveira declared his intention to fight shortly.

“Who would you like to see me fight next? The Lion is ready!!”

“Do Bronx” has already fought Tsarukyan, Makhachev, Poirier, Gaethje, and Holloway. While Makhachev submitted him in the second, he fought through adversity to beat “The Diamond” and “The Highlight.” The fight with Holloway ended due to the Brazilian sustaining a shoulder injury, and fans could look forward to seeing the rematch more than ever now.

The other matchups on the list won’t necessarily move the needle in the UFC lightweight division. McGregor has lost three out of his last four fights and will most likely return to face Michael Chandler. Volkanovski, meanwhile, is 0-2 in the lightweight division and has yet to rematch Ilia Topuria for the UFC featherweight title.

Covington is another opponent that “Do Bronx” would fight to entertain the fans. The former interim UFC welterweight champion decisively lost to Leon Edwards in his last fight and appears unlikely to fight for the title again.

Regardless of the opponent, it is safe to assume that Oliveira will bring the fight to the Octagon and give fans another gritty performance.

Charles Oliveira targets title rematch with Islam Makhachev there's no one at 155lbs to fight him

Missing out on a rematch fight with pound-for-pound number one, Islam Makhachev last October after suffering a laceration on his eye in the weeks before the bout, former champion, Charles Oliveira has definite plans to take on the Russian in his immediate return to the Octagon.

Oliveira, the current number two ranked lightweight contender, most recently featured on the main card of UFC 300 earlier this year, suffering a controversial split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan in the pair’s officially billed title eliminator.

As for Makhachev, the Russian standout headlined UFC 302 two months ago against common-foe, Dustin Poirier, submitting the former interim champion with a fifth round D’Arce choke submission.

Islam Makhachev turns down fight with Michael Chandler you are unreliable dude

Charles Oliveira wants October rematch with Islam Makhachev

And with the above-mentioned, Tsarukyan facing a race against time to take on Makhachev in a planned rematch at UFC 308 in October after being hit with a suspension by the NSAC for his part in a pre-fight brawl with a fan, Oliveira – along with his coach, hope to draft in and fight the champion again.

Charles Oliveira

“They [the UFC] really like Charles (Oliveira) – they want the best for Charles,” Diego Lima told AgFight during a recent interview. “And I certainly made it clear that we wanted to return to the belt path. Both Charles and I want the belt. Now with Arman (Tsarukyan) suspended, there would be no name other than Charles Oliveira.”

“Charles is second in the ranking, and if you look at the rankings, there’s no one to fight with (Islam) Makhachev,” Lima explained. “(Dustin) Poirier just fought, (Justin) Gaethje also got knocked out. So the truth is that with Arman out of the game, I believe there is no one at 155 [pounds] to fight Makhachev other than Charles. So it’s certainly what we want, it’s what Charles wants.”

Who wins in a future title rematch: Islam Makhachev or Charles Oliveira?
