What a story for veteran middleweight Chris Curtis — who lands his second UFC victory, this time nabbing another upset knockout win, this time against the talented, Brendan Allen on the main card of UFC Vegas 44.

Making a quick turnaround, the 34-year-old made his long-awaited Octagon debut back in November at UFC 268 at Madison Square Garden, landing in the promotion with a huge first round knockout win over Phil Hawes.

Veteran middleweight Chris Curtis scores a second upset victory — stopping Brendan Allen

Scoring his seventh consecutive victory tonight, Curtis, an alum of PFL, CES MMA, and even a veteran of Dana White’s Conteder Series — Curtis, a sizeable betting underdog tonight, managed to stun and wobble Allen in the second round via a ripping left hook to the body followed by a swift right hand upstairs.

Taking his time with a finish, Curtis backed Allen back up to the fence where he picked his strikes to the head, before finding a home for a knee, which forced referee, Herb Dean to action — securing Curtis a second round victory as his UFC story continues to grab headlines.

Below, check out the highlights from Chris Curtis’ knockout win over Brendan Allen.

Chris Curtis, a longtime MMA veteran will get a chance at what some could argue as a long-overdue UFC debut. Chris Curtis (26-8) will face Phil Hawes (11-2) at UFC 268 on November 6th.

The fighters were originally set to square off at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Rodriguez after Deron Winn pulled out and was replaced by Curtis. However, Phil Hawes declined to fight his short-notice opponent with only 1 day’s notice.

“We make weight, we are in. We show up the next day that morning and we go to weigh in and hit the scale. Everything goes good and then they are like you are not fighting tomorrow.”

Curtis explained that “I think he wasn’t comfortable taking it that short notice and so he declined. I think he verbally agreed to it and then didn’t sign the contract.”

Curtis was worried that he was going to get released as soon as Phil Hawes declined the offer. Sean Strickland was the one to call Mick Maynard and plea for Chris Curtis to remain on the roster.

“It’s funny because of all people, Sean Strickland calls Mick Maynard like begging him not to cut me and to keep me on the roster.”

Chris Curtis is on a 5-fight win streak with his latest loss coming in 2019 against Ray Cooper. Cooper just defeated Magomed Magomedkerimov in the PFL finals to win the $1 million cash prize and PFL welterweight championship belt.

“The Action Man” Chris Curtis has collected his fair share of MMA straps on the regional scene with nearly 35 professional fights on his record. He even had a victory on Dana White‘s Contender Series but failed to secure the contract with a TKO victory over Sean Lally back in 2018.

How do you see the fight between Chris Curtis and Phil Hawes going down at UFC 268 next weekend?

The surging Brendan Allen has a new opponent for his Octagon return in under two weeks.

As reported by MMA DNA on Tuesday, Brendan Allen will now be taking on Chris Curtis on December 4 instead of Roman Dolidze, who had agreed to replace the originally planned Brad Tavares. MMA News caught up with Allen last week to discuss the initial change in opponents.

“I found out late Monday night, late Monday night, and they told me it was injury,” Allen said of Tavares’ withdrawal. “So who knows? So yeah, they said he was out, Dolidze was in, so that’s what it ended up being, pretty short.”

Now, Dolidze is out, and Curtis is in. Curtis is coming off a big knockout victory over Phil Hawes just two weeks ago at UFC 268. He’s now facing another stuff opponent only month later.

As for Allen, not only does he have a new opponent, but he also has a new contract, one that he negotiated himself after parting ways with SuckerPunch Entertainment.

“I think I let go of [SuckerPunch] officially after the last fight,” Allen said. “We had the conversation before, that I didn’t feel like they were doing a lot for me, just giving them an opportunity to make it right, and just talk it over, you know? We had that talk. It was a good talk at that time. But to be honest, nothing changed. And no hard feelings. It is what it is. It’s just business. And I ended up with a new contract that I worked out myself, and so I let them go.”

Allen also revealed to MMA News that his new contract is for four fights. A bout against Tavares (#11) would have been an opportunity to surely enter the rankings, but with a win over Curtis, that would make six victories in his last seven fights, which would no doubt get him closer to having a number placed next to his name.

Allen (17-4) earned his initial UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019. Defeating the likes of Karl Roberson and the previously undefeated Punahele Soriano in his last two outings, his only loss in the UFC was to #7-ranked middleweight contender Sean Strickland last year.

34-year-old Chris Curtis is 1-0 in the UFC and 27-8 as a professional.
