Things are already heated between Claudia Gadelha and Carla Esparza if they are to have a rematch.

Following a razor-thin split decision win over Angela Hill in the co-main event of UFC Florida this past weekend, Gadelha was asked who she wanted to face next. Having already defeated Esparza in a close contest two years ago, the Brazilian called for a rematch with the former champion.

Esparza was reciprocative to the idea but having previously accused Gadelha of greasing her body in their UFC 225 contest — making it harder for her to grapple — she took a dig at the latter in her response.

“Let’s run it back!! Leave the grease at home this time ?? @ClaudiaGadelha_”

Gadelha: How The F*ck Am I Going To Grease?

That didn’t go down well with Gadelha who responded in the post-fight press conference.

“It’s 2020. The sport is evolving so much, come on,” Gadelha said (via MMA Fighting). “I have the commission following me from the time I step into the octagon to the time the fight is finish. How the f—k am I going to grease?

“Carla Esparza, stop with your f—king excuses, and let’s get back in there again.”

With her win over Hill, Gadelha is on a two-fight winning streak for the first time since 2017 as she looks to enter title contention once again.

As for Esparza, she recently earned a split decision win over Michelle Waterson at UFC 249 earlier this month to make it three wins in a row.

What do you make of Esparza’s greasing claims? Should they fight again next?

In the UFC Florida co-main event former strawweight title challenger, Cláudia Gadelha will be hoping to edge closer to another shot at UFC gold. Angela Hill is the woman standing in her way. The American is currently on a three-fight win streak which is her best run since joining the UFC in 2017.

Round 1: Cláudia Gadelha gets backed right up to the fence by Angela Hill from the first bell, she immediately shoots but it is shaken off. Both fighters are throwing hard and the occasional shots are getting through. The Brazilian is really sitting down on her punches and catches Hill coming in – the pair then clinch up and Gadelha initiates the clinch and takes the fight against the cage and begins chasing the takedown. Lot’s of good defence from Hill but she ultimately took down and lands away from the fence. Gadelha is in side control and has just over a minute to work from the position. Gadelha goes knee on bell starts reigning down punches but Hill uses the space well and gets back to her feet as the round ends.

Round 2: Gadelha opens up round two throwing big shots, Hill is firing back with a few lead hooks but nothing lands. ‘Overkill’ throws a nice straight hands which drops Gadelha shes thinks about going in for the finish but her corner are screaming to let the submission specialist stand up. The referee stands her up and Hill jumps in landing a few nice shots even landing a perfectly timed uppercut. Gadelha is standing up to everything that is thrown at her and begins landing punches of her own. Gadelha again initiates the clinch but is reversed against the cage before Hill manages to seperate. They return to the centre of the cage and continue to trade leather. Gadelha lands huge back to back right hands which seemed to have serious power behind them. Hill takes them well and returns with several nice body shots. She’s feinting well, throwing front kicks and being unorthodox – Hill looks great in round two. As the round comes to a close shes landing well and throwing high volume.

Round 3: Gadelha shoots straight from the off, Hill easily shrugs it and the two women go back to striking. It’s a really scrappy fight with both fighters trying to dip off and land strikes with some success. Gadelha lands a low leg kick which seems to get a reaction from Hill. Gadelha is throwing big rights and elbows too – they are landing flush but Hill has a great chin. Hill is using her length to land straight rights without eating anything in return – three in a row now. As the round goes on Hill is looking the fresher fighter, she’s landing hard and often. Gadelha is still throwing big though and is fighting like shes needs to win this round. One minute left and the two fights clinch. Gadelha lands a big elbow followed by a right hand. We are into the final ten seconds and they exchange right up until the buzzer – what a great fight!

OFFICIAL RESULT: Claudia Gadelha def. Angela Hill via Split Decision

UFC 246 will be a fight light tonight after Alexa Grasso missed weight, forcing her bout with Claudia Gadelha off the card. The Mexican fighter came in 5.5lbs, over the 116 strawweight limit. This is the second time she has missed weight inside the UFC, after previously coming in 3lbs above the limit to face Randa Markos in 2017. However, that time the fight went ahead and Grasso emerged victorious via split decision. Speaking on social media she has now addressed her failure to make weight, the fight being scrapped and what the future holds for her in the UFC.

“I want to apologize to Claudia Gadelha and the UFC. I know this is a fight all were waiting a lot, including me. I trained very much for this and I did everything to lose those pounds.
The commission did not allow our combat although my opponent and I agreed with the sanction this implied for me. The doctors did not allow me to compete. You don’t know how difficult it has been lately to keep me in this weigh class. It was not a lack of discipline because even if I do not have a fight I’m ALWAYS on diet. I turned 26 and my body is not the same, I am growing and I am in this biological process where my metabolism is changing. I have lived in recent years to the limit of what a body needs to be healthy, and yet I have always fulfilled my obligations. Let’s not talk about a flu or if my period is crossed because that added to the diet had made the weigh cuts a real suffering. I never complain or tell these things because I am not that kind of person and I always show you my best attitude. My team and I have decided that the smartest and healthiest thing to do is to be in other weigh class. With all the respect that it deserves and of course pain in my heart I say goodbye to the strawweight division 115 LB. This year has a different goal for me and I officially move to Flyweight 125 LB. I know that at this weight I will be healthier and stronger giving my body all the nutrients it needs. Thanks to all the people who support me, my Lobo team and my coaches who are with me every day and know that what I do is completely a commitment to my sport and my career. I start a new stage in my life!”
