CM Punk has confirmed that he is “working on” finding an opponent for what would be his second bout in the UFC.

The former WWE star was asked about his plans for the future on social media:

Punk lost his debut UFC fight in September last year, as he was submitted in the first round by Mickey Gall at UFC 203.

The 38-year-old’s debut in the brand was much anticipated, as a string of injury woes delayed his first appearance after signing with UFC in December 2014.

However, the former professional wrestler was outclassed by the younger man, as he was brought down to the mat and placed in a rear-naked choke submission.

Punk’s maiden appearance was over after just two minutes and 13 seconds; per ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, it wasn’t pretty:

It was clear after the fight that Punk felt as though he’d made the right decision by venturing into professional MMA, though.

“I just like to take challenges,” he said in the Octagon after his defeat, per Arash Markazi of ESPN. “It was a hell of a mountain to try to climb, and I didn’t get to the summit today, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to give up. It doesn’t mean I’m going to stop. I will be back, believe it or not.”

And based on his recent post on social media, Punk is keen to get back into action again soon, although the identity of his next opponent remains unknown.

In January, he told Fox Sports‘ Carrlyn Bathe that he was “feverishly” working on another fight and was “throwing names” at UFC President Dana White.

Take a look at the 10 biggest mismatches in MMA history:

10. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Zuluzinho

Anytime you have what might be the beast heavyweight mixed martial artist of all time in the ring, it may always seem a little lopsided.

That fact was no better demonstrated in his 36-second destruction of Brazilian behemoth Zuluzinho.

While Zulu was a formidable 6 foot 7 and over 400 pounds of human, his ridiculous size was not enough to overcome Fedor’s unbelievable win streak and skill-set.

A straight left hand planted the big man on his bottom. Fedor attacked with lightning quick instinct, and felled his foe before he was able to get to his feet from the very first punch landed.

Vitor Belfort has been very clear that his next fight inside the Octagon will be his last.

Earlier this month the former UFC light heavyweight champion said he’d like to return to 205 pounds for his retirement bout against an ‘interesting’ fighter, but ‘not a top fighter.’ The Brazilian is currently on a three-fight losing skid to names such as Jacare Souza, Gegard Mousasi, and Kelvin Gastelum.

Belfort raised a lot of eyebrows when he mentioned former WWE Superstar CM Punk as a candidate to step into the Octagon with him for his retirement bout. ‘The Phenom’ took to Instagram to respond to the recent criticism of asking for an ‘easier’ last bout:

I saw the press has released that I asked for an easier fight.

That said, let me remind you all my last 10 fights:

Anthony Johnson, Jon Jones, Bisping, Rockhold, Henderson, Weidman, Henderson, Jacaré, Mousasi and Gastelum

Only big names, champions and rising stars. The only easy fight I had was with the actual FAKE Champion Michael Bisping.

Now if you ask me if I would like an easy last fight.

If I would like to have an opponent that at least in theory I would knock him down easily…

I will confess that would be great!

But that would NOT BE ME…

Would not live up to my history and the legacy I want to leave for the next generations.

When I started in this sport, I was just a young kid, smaller than all my opponents. Nobody took me serious…

But I came out knocking people out! Against all the odds became a champion.

I know I am not that kid anymore. But I will not hide behind the age, the time that I’ve been fighting, the pains, my hormonal deficiency (believe or not, I have it), or anything else…

In life you fight! You have to!

And usually the odds are always stacked against you.

That is the message I want to leave to my fans, friends, family, to young athletes and specially to my kids…

NEVER GIVE UP!

If you do have a tiny chance and is your dream you are fighting for:

GO FOR IT!!!

Does not matter the outcome!

The real loser is the one that gave up and never took the chance to try!

Davi, Vitoria and Kyara…

You are the most precious things in the whole world to me.

Your mother and I are raising you as fighters. Not as a sports athletes, but as real life fighters…

Chase your dreams, never give up, trust in a few good friends life will give you and above all, if everything for some reason falls apart, trust in God! He will never let you down…

Now, whoever they want to give as my last fight… I will take it!

Give me younger kids or big names, champions… whatever!

Let them come…

I may be older, but I still have some tricks in my sleeve.

I will be in front of my friends and family.

And invite everyone to walk the last mile with me.

Guys, I want and need your support!

Let’s make this last walk to the Octagon a real celebration.

Love you all!!

After being finished by Kevin Gastelum in the first round at UFC Fight Night 106, Vitor Belfort announced his intention to retire from MMA. The MMA legend wants to complete his UFC contract, which has one fight left on it. Belfort stated that he has an opponent in mind for his final fight but it’s an odd one as he wants the opportunity to retire in front of his hometown crowd when the UFC heads to Rio de Janeiro in June for UFC 212 and he wants to fight former WWE Superstar CM Punk, who has one MMA bout under his belt. Punk was destroyed by Mickey Gall at UFC 203 last September, and it’s unknown whether he will get another fight in the UFC.

While the chances of the UFC booking the fight are slim and probably impossible to get sanction from a state athletic commission, the idea that Belfort would fight Punk in his final bout appears to have a struck a nerve with current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. The champ recently went off on Belfort for wanting this fight during a recent episode of his podcast Believe You Me.

“This is a sign of the p**sy that Vitor Belfort is. This is the sign of a p**sy that takes f**king steroids his entire career. If you take steroids, you are a f**king p**sy because you’re so mentally weak that you feel that you can’t go out there and fight these people on a level playing field because you’re gonna get your ass kicked. So you worry, and you look, and you look for shortcuts, and you look how you can cheat, and you think, ‘Oh I’m gonna take these steroids and they’re gonna build my muscle and make me recover better’ and all this type of stuff.

“And they do give you advantages. They give you physical and psychological advantages. But if you need those advantages then you are a coward, you’re a f**king p**sy, and you are a cheat, and the very fact that somebody would take steroids their entire career, then get their ass kicked, then call out CM Punk, I’m not surprised motherf**kers. It’s a simple as that and that just speaks volumes to the character and the level of a man that Vitor Belfort is. I wouldn’t f**king p*** on him if he was on fire.”

Bisping said he didn’t intend to go off on Belfort due to him doing so many times in the past but when his co-host brought up the topic, it couldn’t help himself and had to speak his mind.

“If you put me in this environment and you tell me that former light heavyweight champion – former heavyweight champion – middleweight contender, longtime steroid abuser, cheat, fraud, wants to fight a one and fighter in the UFC that lost in the worst way possible, who is a 170 [pound] guy that’s never really done any kind of MMA training, you tell me that’s who Vitor wants to fight, of course you’re gonna get a strong reaction.”

Vitor Belfort Suggests “CM Punk” For Retirement Fight

CM Punk seems to be the walking punch line of the UFC (well, besides the GSP vs. Michael Bisping fight), so it seems completely appropriate that former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort would use his as the butt of his.

“Just for the laughs”

CM Punk seems to be the walking punch line of the UFC (well, besides the GSP vs. Michael Bisping fight), so it seems completely appropriate that former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort would use him as the butt of his.

As we all know, Vitor came off of a less than stellar performance Saturday night, losing via 1st round TKO against middleweight newcomer Kelvin Gastelum. Although Vitor had some early success, Kelvin’s crisp boxing skills and constant pressure proved too much for the Pride veteran. In a recent interview with Flocombat, Vitor announced that he was tired of facing the murders row of UFC opponents and wanted a much “smoother fight.”

“It would have to be an interesting fighter, but not a top fighter”, Belfort said. “I’ve been fighting good guys before: Dan Henderson, [Chris] Weidman, Dan Henderson, ‘Jacaré’ [Souza], [Gegard] Mousasi and now Kelvin [Gastelum]. These are all hard fights, so if you can book a smoother fight… What’s the name of that guy from WWE? CM Punk would be a good fight”, Belfort laughed. ”CM Punk, let’s get it on. That would be a really good fight.

Yep, you read right. Vitor Belfort wants “CM Punk” for his swan song at UFC 212. While he was obviously just joking (I think…) we thought it would be fun to throw in our opinion on how the fight might play out. In fact, we found a video we feel accurately displays our thoughts and sentiments.

You get the picture. But in all seriousness, Vitor is aiming to end his highlight reel career on June 3 rd in Rio De Janeiro Brazil, and at 205 lbs to boot. Who should he fight next?
