Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw was set to challenge current titleholder and bitter rival Cody Garbrandt in the main event of July 8’s UFC 213 from Las Vegas, Nevada, but a back injury to “No Love” has put the bout in jeopardy. A recent report actually indicated that Garbrandt was no longer fighting on July 8 and Dillashaw told ESPN.com that he was ’99 percent’ sure the fight was off.

If he doesn’t fight Garbrandt in July, Dillashaw has expressed interest in dropping down in weight to challenge dominant flyweight champion and pound-for-pound king Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. In fact, Dillashaw, who says he’s spoken to UFC President Dana White regarding the idea, says he could meet Johnson in August:

“I was told that if Cody is out of the fight, which I am 99 percent sure he is, I will be fighting [Johnson] in August,” Dillashaw said. “I texted Dana White three days ago to ask what the deal was. He told me Cody had one more day of injections [in Germany] and then we’d find out what was going on.

“Dana was really excited about that. I don’t know if [Johnson] wants to turn down the fight or what. I don’t really know how that works. I’ve never turned down a fight from the UFC before. I don’t know if you’re really allowed to — but Dana was very excited about it.”

White has indeed expressed interest in the idea, although Johnson has remained relatively quiet regarding the potential clash. “Mighty Mouse”, who recently tied Anderson Silva’s all-time consecutive title defenses record at 10, will look to make the 11th defense of his 125-pound strap in his next bout, breaking a record in the process.

Dillashaw feels as if Johnson should attempt to break this record in a ‘big’ fight like the one he’s proposed:

“If this fight doesn’t happen, it really comes down to him not wanting to fight me,” Dillashaw said. “I’m cutting in line? Are you kidding? That was the weakest cop-out ever.

“I want to fight the best fighter in the world and I think he does nothing but tarnish his legacy if he doesn’t take it. He can’t call himself the greatest of all time if there are big fights coming to him and he’s turning them down. He wants to break a record fighting someone no one’s ever heard of? Why not make this thing epic and sell it? He’s been talking about getting paid; this is the way to do it.”

The ex-bantamweight champion has never competed at 125 pounds before and although he admits it’d be a tough weight cut, he feels as if it’d be worth it as well. Dillashaw is also working with a new nutritionist and would make the necessary changes in order to make the flyweight limit safely:

“The way I’m going to do it is switch up the way I work out,” Dillashaw said. “I’m still going to eat well, but my diet will be very different. It will almost be an Ironman [triathlon] approach, lot of aerobic workouts. It’s going to be a hell of a change for me. I’m not a big 135-pounder but I’m lean year-round.

“Right now, I’m at like 9 percent body fat. I’m willing to cut myself to a little under 6 percent. We’ve got it all calculated out and it’s going to be a lot of work, but if the juice is worth the squeeze, you do it.”

Is this a fight that intrigues you?

TJ Dillashaw Targeting Fight With ‘Scared’ Demetrious Johnson For July

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is currently scheduled to take on reigning 135-pound king and bitter rival Cody Garbrandt in the main event of July 8’s UFC 213 in Las Vegas, Nevada during International Fight Week.

Garbrandt, however, is currently dealing with back issues, putting the highly anticipated grudge match in jeopardy.

If “No Love” is indeed unable to make it on fight night, Dillashaw has another idea: drop down to 125 pounds and take on the ‘scared’ Demetrious Johnson:

“I’m willing to drop down to fight Demetrious at 125 (pounds) cause he’s trying to break this record, it’s a big deal,” Dillashaw told Submission Radio. “No one wants to see him fight someone that he doesn’t know or somebody he’s already beaten for this record. He’s talking about how much money he wants to make on his next fight, well he’s not gonna do that by fighting number eights and tens. It’s not a super fight, I’m coming down to 125. It’s a challenger at his weight class that will give him the biggest challenge possible, and that’s what he’s scared of. He wants to take an easier fight that’s going to get him the record so that he can have the most title defenses in UFC history. You can’t call yourself the best pound-for-pound fighter if you’re gonna dodge me. I’ve got the utmost respect for Demetrious Johnson. But this comes down to you selling a fight. He wants to make some big money? Let’s do it, man. This is about as big as it’s gonna get for him.”

A fight between Dillashaw and Johnson was often discussed when Dillashaw was holding the 135-pound title, but Johnson had said that he would only move up in weight for a tremendous sum of money. Now, however, “Killashaw” is willing to come to him.

“Mighty Mouse” recently defended his title for the 10th consecutive time at UFC on FOX 24, putting on a dominant performance against Wilson Reis. In his next fight, he will indeed look to break Anderson Silva’s record for the most consecutive title defenses in promotional history.

If Garbrandt isn’t healthy enough to fight at UFC 213, would you like to see Johnson and Dillashaw do battle for flyweight gold?

Former teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw will face off in the co-main event of UFC 213 on July 8, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada with Garbrandt’s 135-pound title hanging in the balance. The two bantamweight stalwarts have gone back-and-forth in the media over the last few months and they are currently coaching opposite each other on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF):Redemption.

“No Love” has consistently taken shots at Dillashaw and he has also claimed to have a video of him knocking the ex-champion out in the gym a few years back. Dillashaw obviously doesn’t believe this video exists, but Garbrandt recently made him an offer to release it:

“Hey Dillashaw, let’s put an end to all of this. I’m going to go out and get as much money as I can from the video of me knocking you out. How about you pick a charity that you want to support and I’ll donate 100-percent of the proceeds to that charity,” Garbrandt said in an Instagram post on Wednesday night.

It’s still unclear whether or not the video exists, but Garbrandt said that he has knocked out Dillashaw ‘multiple times’ and he plans to do it again on July 8th:

“I have it on my phone actually. That’s the gym. I’ve knocked T.J. out multiple times. It doesn’t matter. July 8, it’s going to happen again,” Garbrandt said on TUF Talk on FS1. “So that’s the thing, I can release it, if TMZ wants to give $50,000, I don’t need the money. If T.J. were in my shoes, he would do that. He sold out for $60,000 to go to MusclePharm and leave everybody who shouldered him and made him into the world champion that he was.

“I just wanted him on the show admit that it happened and I don’t have to release any of it, that’s not what I’m about or my team is about.”

Who do you expect to come out on top when these two bantamweight rivals meet in July?

Earlier this year, it was announced that newly crowned UFC bantamweight champion Cody “No Love” Garbrandt would defend his title for the very first time against bitter rival and former champion TJ Dillashaw after the two coach opposite each other on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

The fight now has a date and venue, as UFC President Dana White announced last night that the fight will take place at UFC 213 on July 8, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada during International Fight Week:

“Obviously, Cody and T.J. are already on that card (at UFC 213), so yeah, we’ll see how that goes,” White said.

Garbrandt is coming off of a career defining win over Dominick Cruz at Dec. 30, 2016’s UFC 207 where dominated the ex-champion over the course of five rounds. Prior to that, he had won five straight UFC bouts, with four of those victories coming by way of T/KO.

Dillashaw, on the other hand, has won two straight fights losing his title to Cruz in Jan. 2016. He beat Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 last July before scoring an impressive decision victory over John Lineker at UFC 207.

UFC 213 currently does not have a main event set.

Garbrandt was granted his wish, as he will indeed defend his strap against Dillashaw later this year, but not before the two coach opposite each other on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), which has been labeled Redemption.

It was clear that the two 135 pounders had some bad blood between them, but it appears as if the two actually got into a physical altercation while filming the reality show. A screenshot, which was grabbed from a recent UFC 209 promotional video (Via MMAMania), shows “No Love” grabbing the neck of Dillashaw.

TJ Dillashaw Blasts Cody Garbrandt: I Was Never Close With Him

Former Team Alpha Male teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw will fight for Garbrandt’s newly acquired UFC bantamweight title later this year after they coach opposite each other on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Since losing his title to Dominick Cruz last January, Dillashaw has won two straight over Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker to earn another shot at divisional supremacy. Garbrandt, on the other hand, recently dominated Cruz over the course of five rounds to steal the title at this past December’s UFC 207.

The two bantamweights have seemed to stir up a rivalry since Dillashaw’s departure from the Sacramento-based Team Alpha Male, but the ex-champion recently told Submission Radio that him and “No Love” were never close. He also said that the champion tends to put on an act when the cameras are rolling:

“I was never close with him, I was never friends with him and he’s just obsessed with what I’m doing and how I’m living and what’s going on in my life,” Dillashaw said. “I don’t question anything of what he’s got going on cause that’s him. I could care less. You know, I just kind of feel like they’re just obsessed with what I’ve got going on. Off-camera, not on interviews, things are fine. Things are perfectly fine. We’re in rooms together and things are nothing, but as soon as the camera’s on and doing interviews, he’s the tough guy because he wants to look cool. For him it’s all about looking cool and getting his social media followers up. It’s a lot of petty stuff. He’s getting his hair lined up and his eyebrows waxed and looking as cool as he possibly can, but really I think it makes him look just kinda dumb, you know, to buy into all that. He really doesn’t have the wits behind him. He can talk, but really it’s just him getting angry. You saw with Cruz as well, he just kinda gets angry and loses it. He really doesn’t have any valid points.”

Who do you expect to walk away with 135-pound gold when Garbrandt and Dillashaw settle their bad blood later this year?
