Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington fought back at UFC 225 in June of 2018.

After five rounds, Covington won via unanimous decision to capture the interim 170-pound championship. Unfortunately for Covington, his chase for the undisputed welterweight title didn’t end the way he wanted. Covington challenged Kamaru Usman for the title in the UFC 245 main event earlier this month.

Usman broke Covington’s jaw midway through a very competitive fight, before putting “Chaos” away late in the fifth round. Now, Covington is nursing his broken jaw, but intends to get back to action as soon as he’s medically cleared to do so. Speaking to AG Fight recently, “RDA” offered his thoughts on Covington’s recent defeat and injury. It turns out dos Anjos has dealt with a broken jaw before himself.

The Brazilian claims he has seen many people retire from such an injury, but hopes that’s not the case with Covington, as he’d love to rematch the American Top Team (ATT) product.

“Absolutely [a rematch against Colby matters for 2020[. I’ve had this injury too, I don’t know the severity, but you have to have a lot of head to come back. I hope he really fights back, doesn’t retire, because it’s an injury I’ve seen retire people out there,” dos Anjos said. “It’s something I don’t even want for my worst enemy. But let’s see.

“It’s six months to go back to training, I remember how I got. Six months is just to retrain. It took me about ten months to fight again, a year almost to fight again. But it sure is a fight that interests me. It was [in the fight against Clay Guida that I got hurt]. It was terrible, worse thing, I don’t wish for my worst enemy.”

Of course, before he can think about rematching Covington, “RDA” has a meeting with Michael Chiesa at UFC Raleigh on January 25.

What do you think about “RDA” wanting to rematch Covington? Who are you picking?

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington are no longer friends. The American Top Team (ATT) Teammates had a falling out after Masvidal alleged that Covington didn’t pay one of his coaches.

Speaking on “The Jim Rome Show,” Masvidal said his initial reaction was to break Covington’s jaw. However, his coach advised him against such an action, insisting it would do him no good and could likely land him in jail. Masvidal says that karma caught up with Covington last weekend when he had his jaw broken by Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 245.

“At first, my initial thing was just to break his face but then my coach said ‘That’s gonna probably get you in jail and you’re not gonna be able to fight and blah blah blah. Let the universe take care of him,’” Masvidal said. “And his exact words were, ‘We’ll get him in the prize ring and break his jaw.’ Somebody beat me to that but his jaw is broken.”

In regards to how he felt after seeing Covington meet a battered and bloody end at UFC 245, “Gamebred” says the “clown” got what he deserved.

“I don’t like to be critical of human beings because I am one and I’m nowhere near perfect but I’m just not with that whole, your whole career is based out of getting a rise out of people,” Masvidal said. “Like, if I come on your show and I’m just saying a bunch of controversial stuff for people to be talking about me, it’s not really my cup of tea. But people do it all the time and he’s the number one poster boy for that.

“He always wants to get a reaction out of people. Now this individual, when people are trying to get a reaction out of him, he’s reporting people on Instagram! He took the comments off so you can’t comment on them and then he’s reporting people on Instagram that were commenting on him. He was saying how negative they are towards him and stuff.

“This is a guy that’s calling people virgins, calling people nerds and saying they live in their parents basements, marks, snowflakes, making fun of Brazilians. That country, it’s not like it’s a rich country and it’s doing well. They’ve got a lot of poverty over there. They’ve got a lot of people that take it to heart what he’s saying and he doesn’t give a flying f*ck.

“And he does that all for a like on Facebook, for a paycheck for the three, four, five PPVs that it went up with. That guy’s a clown and he got what he deserved.”

What do you make of Masvidal’s comments on Covington’s loss and broken jaw?

Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman defended his belt in emphatic fashion against Colby Covington at UFC 245. The two fighters primarily known for their wrestling credentials went to war on the feet throughout five hard rounds.  Usman actually broke Covington’s jaw in the third round before eventually dropping ‘Chaos’ twice which saw referee Marc Goddard stop the fight in the fifth and final round, much to to the displeasure of Covington.  .

The UFC have now released their customary Fight Motion video. If you haven’t seen it before it’s the events best clips all shown in super slow motion. It really makes any moment truly epic and the epic moments even better. If you’re not too squeamish, take a look at the Americans jaw breaking in slow motion and the nights best bits below. (H/T UFC)

Since the fight Covington has had his broken jaw confirmed and been suspended by the commission for 180 days. Despite the loss ‘Chaos’ is still full of confidence and ready to get straight back in there as soon as hes medically cleared according to his manager Dan Lambert.

“The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman will now look to continue his reign as champion for as long as possible. Welterweight is full of killers right now and he’s already got a couple 170lb fighters lining up. Inaugural BMF champion Jorge Masvidal has enjoyed a brilliant 2019, picking up three consecutive knockout wins over Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. It’s hard to say he shouldn’t be next in line for a crack at Usman. On the other hand you have British fighter Leon Edwards, who has been quietly clearing out the division. Currently riding an 8-fight UFC win streak Edwards could also be next in line for a chance to avenge the sole defeat of his career against Usman.

Everyone is piling on Colby Covington after having his jaw broken and suffering a late TKO loss in his welterweight title bid against Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 over the weekend.

Covington likes to talk a lot of trash leading up to fights, but beyond that, people seem more offended and against him due to his staunch support of current United States President Donald Trump. After his loss over the weekend, many, even outside the MMA community, rejoiced at his downfall.

However, this doesn’t sit well with former UFC heavyweight-turned-comedian Brendan Schaub. Taking to his podcast, “Below The Belt,” Schaub explained that people fail to realize Covington is simply playing a character. (H/T MMA News)

“I think a lot of times too because of Colby’s antics, and he did it to attract fans and he did it for this exact reason he wants you to hate him so you tune in to see him lose. But that being said, you realize he’s just playing a character. That’s like getting mad at Robert De Niro for playing The Irishman when you see him on the street. Like, ‘what the f*ck dude?!’ He’s like, ‘what? That’s a character.’”

Schaub proceeded to blast those who were using the #MAGAJaw on social media this week, telling them to grow up and realize Covington is simply playing a character.

“For Colby it’s a character, he just happens to be the most hated character and rides with Trump. Obviously there’s the issue with Trump being the president and the moves he makes. But if you ask Colby like, ‘hey man what do you think of the stuff going on with Trump right now with impeachment?’ Or you ask him on his immigration laws, he doesn’t know.

“It’s just a bit, man. It’s just a bit. So when you can take that out, which for a lot of people is hard to do, and look at Colby as an athlete as a fighter he’s f*cking good man. He is damn good. He’s very, very, very good and he showed it. To me the narrative isn’t that Colby lost, the Trump kid lost, the big-mouth kid got his jaw broke.

“And I hate the f*cking #MAGAJaw. Grow up. But the thing to me, the narrative of this is how good is Kamaru Usman? He is so god damn good.”

What do you think about Schaub standing up for Covington against recent criticisms?
