UFC president Dana White didn’t seem surprised by Colby Covington’s UFC Newark post-fight insult directed at Matt Hughes.

Covington infamously took a shot at the UFC Hall of Famer following his five-round decision win over Robbie Lawler this past weekend:

“Let’s talk about the lesson we learned tonight,” Covington said. “It’s a strong lesson that Robbie should’ve learned from his good buddy Matt Hughes. You stay off the tracks when the train’s coming through, junior. Don’t matter if there’s a Trump train or the Colby train, get out the way!”

Many in the mixed martial arts world were shocked by the comments and found it distasteful, including Jorge Masvidal. However, White simply felt it was another typical Covington moment and didn’t pay heed to it much:

“I think it was very Colby, you know,” White responded. “He’s Dan Lambert’s guy and you know, Matt Hughes is best friends with Dan Lambert. They’re together all the time. So it was typical Colby Covington.”

What did you make of Covington’s dig at Hughes?

Colby Covington will get the next crack at Kamaru Usman’s welterweight title according to UFC president Dana White.

Covington comfortably outpointed Robbie Lawler at UFC Newark this past weekend and the wheels were in motion right away as he and Usman talked trash to each other during the post-fight show.

Many previously believed there was a chance Jorge Masvidal would get the next title shot over Covington. However, that is no longer the case:

“Yeah, that’s why I put Covington on ESPN against a guy like Lawler,” White said when asked if Covington would receive the next title shot. “You can say whatever you want about Covington, you don’t like him, you don’t this, that, or whatever. He put on a clinic against Lawler, who is a beast.

Lawler’s been in all the big fights — former world champion, hits like a truck and Colby completely shut him down. His cardio was impressive and the way that he beat Lawler was even more impressive.”

So if that’s the case, where does that leave Masvidal?

Chael Sonnen believes it opens up the possibility of that Conor McGregor fight. And while “Gamebred” and his management have stated that they only want him to face the Irishman next or get a title shot, White has his own plans:

“You can’t make ultimatums,” White responded when asked about Masvidal. “We’re going to offer him a fight, and if he accepts the fight, he does and if he doesn’t, he doesn’t.”

Masvidal’s co-manager Abraham Kawa would respond soon after:

What do you think of White’s comments and his plans for the division?

Colby Covington is one of the most controversial stars in mixed martial arts (MMA) today.

A lot of that has to do with his very open support for current United States President Donald Trump. Covington was the first fighter to visit the White House after winning UFC gold last year. It was there that he developed a relationship with Trump, who called Covington to congratulate him this past weekend after his victory over Robbie Lawler.

However, despite his staunch support for the President, it turns out Covington didn’t actually vote for Trump in the 2016 election. MMA reporter Jeremy Botter checked voter registration records in the states where Covington has lived, and realized Covington was not registered to vote in 2016.

In short, Covington didn’t vote for anyone. Responding in a statement to Botter, Covington admitted he has never registered to vote in his life, as he has always been skeptical of all politicians before Trump.

Well I’ll be damned. Finally we have a story that isn’t fake news. You are correct. I have never registered to vote in my life.

I have hated politics and politicians for as long as I can remember. I have always found them to be liars and hypocrites, seeking nothing but to further their self interests in the name of public service.

I openly admit that I felt the same way going into the 2016 election. While I was certain that Hillary was a fraud, I was likewise skeptical of now President Trump and the promises he was making. How could I not be, especially in light of the media‘s portrayal of him and his agenda?

No, I did not register to vote in 2016 or any election prior to that. I did not trust President Trump at the time and have never been a fan of members of either side of the aisle.

And then it happened. Against all odds and with just about about every card in the deck stacked against him, including many uncooperative members of his own party, the guy started delivering on his promises. He began to make America great again.

I am blown away at the success he has had in the short time he has been in office. I shudder to think of just how far along we would be if he was treated even close to fairly by the media and the occupants of the swamp in Washington D.C.

I began to support our President when I realized he was a true man of the people, looking to make our country great for all of us instead of using the office for his personal gain. The support is growing stronger by the day as he continues to deliver on his promises.

I will be registering to vote in the 2020 election and do my part to ensure this man finishes the job he has started.

What do you think about Covington admitting he didn’t vote for Trump in the 2016 election?

It’s likely that Colby Covington will challenge Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title next.

Covington comes off a win over Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC Newark this past weekend. “Chaos” took home a lopsided unanimous decision over the former 170-pound champion. The former interim welterweight titleholder is one of the more controversial figures in mixed martial arts (MMA) today.

It’s for that very reason that Usman claims he is having fans beg him to “kill” Covington when they’re finally locked inside the Octagon. (via MMA Junkie)

“I’ve been deleting messages for the past two days from Instagram,” Usman told TMZ Sports. “I’ve just deleted, deleted, deleted messages – thousands of messages on Instagram – of people saying: ‘Bro, you’ve gotta kill this dude.’

“It’s not ‘beat him,’ it’s ‘kill this guy,’ ‘kill him for us,’ ‘I want him done worse than Askren was.’ People have malicious intent for this guy, myself included, and I’m just blessed to be able to go out there and do it.”

Both men are very similar in the way they fight. Usman and Covington are highly decorated wrestlers who fight with a pressure that most of their opponents are unable to keep up with. Covington showed that in his performance against Lawler, which left “The Ruthless One” uncharacteristically stifled for the majority of the bout.

Usman’s pressure was evident in his welterweight title victory over Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 earlier this year. He was able to outclass “T-Wood” for five full rounds en route to a dominant title win.

What do you think about Usman saying fans are asking him to “kill” Covington?
