Conor McGregor Mauls Dennis Siver, Jumps Cage to Confront Jose Aldo [VIDEOS]

Last night’s UFC Fight Night 59 bout between Irish featherweight star Conor McGregor and German role-player Dennis Siver was every bit the lopsided showcase we expected it to be. McGregor thoroughly outclassed Siver in the standup exchanges, using his speed, accuracy, and unpredictable variety of strikes to befuddle his opponent. After two minutes in the second round, Siver found himself mounted on the mat, eating shots until Herb Dean called it a day. Highlights from McGregor’s TKO of Siver are above, via UFC on FOX.

The win clinched McGregor a title shot against current featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who was watching last night’s bout cageside. The fight is likely to headline UFC 187 (May 23rd, Las Vegas), and McGregor got the promotion off to an early start, leaping the cage after his smash-up of Siver and storming his way over to Aldo and his family.

The combination of McGregor’s pumped-up insanity, Aldo’s calm amusement, and the gangster-ass little girl trying to be a part of the brawl made it one of the most entertaining post-fight encounters in UFC history. Check out the video below, and get full UFC Fight Night 59 results right here

Conor McGregor’s Financial Advice: Blow All Your Money, Stay Hungry [VIDEO]

Leading up to UFC Fight Night 59: McGregor vs. Whoever, the UFC is going full speed ahead on the Conor McGregor hype-train. (Count the number of times that Dennis Siver appears in this “McGregor Era” promo. Zero. The answer is zero.) And in all of their promotion, McGregor is made out to be a phenom, an uncrowned king, one of the biggest stars in the world — potentially, at least.

But this UFC Ultimate Insider segment on McGregor uses a different tactic: Presenting McGregor as a real human being. He has a sister who he used to scrap with as a child, and parents who were worried about their son giving up a stable life as a plumber to pursue cage-fighting. His mom maybe still doesn’t know what MMA is. (“Da boxin’ kind of gave him a complete different outlook,” she says.) At the 1:54 mark, Conor’s father Tony describes one of his son’s early fights against “an Eastern European guy…ex-Special Forces from Russia.” Tony can barely get through the story before he gets choked up. “That was a defining moment for me,” Tony says. “Boy become man.”

It’s a powerful moment, and it makes McGregor so much more relatable than all of his usual bluster. I also enjoyed this charming — and so utterly Irish — monologue that McGregor makes on the topic of money:

You ever hear the saying, ‘It’s hard to get up and run when you’re wearing silk underwear’? As if to say, like, I made some money, it’s hard to actually get up and motivate. But I’ve got a foolproof plan: When you get your money, spend every penny of it. Blow it all, until you’re actually broke come the next fight. So you’re just as hungry as you were before the first one. So I’m in the process of blowing every penny of that. Every f*ckin’ penny of it, yeah?

Then, he goes suit shopping. Please, somebody make me a Vine of 5:44-5:46. Thanks.

UFC 179 Videos: Aldo vs. Mendes Highlights, Conor McGregor and Anderson Silva Are Called Out + More

(Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes UFC 179 highlights, via UFC on FOX)

In case you missed the action on Saturday night, check out this video recap of the five-round war between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes at UFC 179 in Rio. Aldo came out of the fight looking worse for the wear, but took four out of five rounds on all three judges scorecards.

Below: Aldo and Mendes are interviewed after the bout, and the champ discusses the late-punches controversy at the end of round 1. Aldo lands a great diss on Conor McGregor — “I’m the king, Chad’s the prince, and now we have a joker” — while Mendes just promises to kick McGregor’s ass.

And speak of the devil…

Conor McGregor gives his thoughts on the fight and gives respect to both men for a “phenomenal contest.” But of course, he could beat either of them and thinks he’s next in line for a title shot.

Anderson Silva arrives at the arena to a hero’s welcome.

Highlights from the Phil Davis vs. Glover Teixeira co-main event (such as they are)…

Conor McGregor vs. The Haters: UFC Fan Q&A in Brazil Turns Hostile [VIDEO]

(Any time you need a security detail to do a live interview, you’re gonna have a bad time. / Props: UFC)

Since UFC featherweight Conor McGregor is in Rio this weekend to mean mug at Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes at UFC 179, the promotion decided to book him for a fan Q&A at the Maracanazinho Gymnasium. Yes, the UFC had an Irish superheel do a live show in front of a bunch of Brazilians who hate him, and yes, it was kind of a fiasco.

As Helwani summed it up: “This is like Andy Kaufman in Memphis. They hate him and he’s eating it up…Never experienced something like this. Basically every fan is coming to the mic to tell Conor how much they hate him.” Here are some highlights…

0:44: McGregor tells the crowd that the “Brazilian mamacitas” like his hair.

3:45: “It was your MOTHER.”

4:28: “The next time Jose steps into the Octagon after Saturday night, it will be to face me.” The crowd cheers, then starts chanting something that is either “Aldo” or a death threat.

6:49-7:13: One of the attendees goes on a rant that the translator doesn’t even try to pass along to McGregor, perhaps out of fear. Eventually, he huddles up with McGregor to give him the basic gist of what was said.

8:15: The guy is still talking. Paula Sack attempts to restore order. McGregor never responds to what was said and the next fan steps up to the mic.

9:04: “Jose Aldo…oo, va moher!” The crowd laughs at McGregor’s pronunciation of their national slogan.

9:41: “No Brazilians will have a world title after I am done!” McGregor says, and the fan on the mic laughs and I think tells him to eat shit, maybe?

10:10: A guy with a broken arm leads his homeboys in another insulting chant. This is getting crazy.

11:03: “I speak TROOT. I don’t speak trash, I speak TROOT.”

11:13-11:37: Just watch the guy in the green shirt. Or rather, try not to watch him.

11:53: “Come down here and kiss my feet.”

12:58-13:09: Guy in the green shirt invents International Douchebag Sign Language.

15:44-15:51: Conor McGregor seems like a smart dude, but he also seems to think that they speak Spanish in Brazil.

17:21: “Conor bless you. Conor bless you.”

If Honest Dana is to be believed, Conor McGregor is the biggest star in UFC history. (Screw you, Ronda! Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!) Of course, the amount of hype and interest behind the Irish featherweight is very real. From his cocky one-liners to his impeccable attire to his flashy striking, “Notorious” is the total package. So here are a couple more videos of Conor McGregor cuttin’ promos after his big win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 178. Watch them. You know you want to.

(Short version: McGregor discusses his love for new clothes, the thumb injury that briefly made him consider pulling out of the fight, and makes a short joke about Chad Mendes. He also describes a steak in a way that will probably make you hungry. / via MMAFighting)
