Conor McGregor Applauds Kellie Harrington’s Historic Win: ‘Two-Time Olympic Champion’

Conor McGregor showed some love to two-time Olympic champion Kellie Harrington following her gold medal-winning performance in the women’s 60kg boxing division.

Harrington, who hails from McGregor’s native Ireland and brought home the gold three years ago in Tokyo, delivered a dominant showing against China’s Yang Wenlu, securing a 4-1 victory at Roland Garros to become the first Irish woman to win gold medals at two Olympics. She is just one of four Irish athletes to retain an Olympic title.

Her accomplishment scored some recognition from McGregor, who offered congratulations to Harrington while enjoying the festivities at home alongside his youngest son, Mack McGregor.

“Two time Olympic Champion, Ireland’s Kellie Harrington!” McGregor wrote on X. “FANTASTIC! HISTORY!”

Minutes after she stepped onto the podium to receive her gold medal, Harrington announced to the world that she was retiring from the sport while on top.

“I’m done and dusted,” Harrington said. “I’m going to go out a champion. That’s the way I want to go out. I don’t want to go out and lose a fight and then retire. I’ll retire happy.”

Conor McGregor Targets December Return after Bowing out of June Comeback

As for Conor McGregor, the two-division titleholder is still working toward his long-awaited return to the Octagon. That moment was supposed to come at UFC 303 in June, but ‘Mystic Mac’ ultimately bowed out of his scheduled headliner with Michael Chandler after breaking his pinky toe while training.

Rumors suggest that their bout will be rebooked for UFC 310 in December, though Dana White has continued to play coy when asked, and Chandler has seemingly thrown in the towel on ever seeing their scrap come to fruition.

Michael Chandler is finally ready to move on from Conor McGregor — or is he?

The former Bellator champion has been patiently waiting for nearly two years as McGregor’s quote-unquote “greatest comeback in combat sports history” continues to shift dates as often as the wind blows. In June, it appeared the wait would finally pay off as the two were scheduled to headline UFC 303 in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the fight never came to fruition after the Irishman bowed out due to of all things, a broken pinky toe.

Taking to social media, Chandler appears to have hit his breaking point, writing that “the fight is off” and claiming McGregor simply can’t cope with the reality of his career being over.

Michael Chandler

”Nevermind guys…I think it’s time I finally admit the fight is off,” Chandler wrote on X. “He’s still in stage 2 of the 7 of grief pertaining to his career being over. Figured he’d be closer to 5 by now. Godspeed @TheNotoriousMMA”

Conor McGregor happily swaps out Michael Chandler for Max Holloway

In response, McGregor didn’t appear too bothered by Chandler’s statement, suggesting that BMF titleholder Max Holloway would be a far more interesting opponent for his rumored return in December.

”? lol ok lil bro. Swapped out handy,” McGregor wrote in a since-deleted post. “@BlessedMMA what you at December? The real bmf, you know.”

Chandler snapped back in short order, adding that Holloway is more focused on taking back the featherweight title.

”Max wouldn’t even fight me, let alone you…he wants the title. Don’t act like you hold the cards….swan song incoming,” Chandler quipped.

Holloway is currently scheduled to headline UFC 308 when the promotion heads back to Abu Dhabi in October. There, ‘Blessed’ will be the first fighter to challenge the current 145-pound champion, Ilia Topuria.

Holloway vs. Topuria

Holloway last competed at UFC 300 in April, scoring a buzzer-beating KO of Justin Gaethje to claim the BMF title. Holloway’s bragging rights belt doesn’t appear to be up for grabs at UFC 308, but if he can cut Topuria’s title reign short, he’ll become the first fighter in promotional history to hold the BMF and UFC championships simultaneously.

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor was not pleased to see the name Donald Trump produced when asked for his favorite fighter.

The former United States president recently appeared for an interview with Internet personality Adin Ross, during which he named legendary former UFC lightweight kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov as top of his fighter list.

Among those snubbed were Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, both of whom have pledged heavy public support for Trump across recent years.

Also not getting a mention was McGregor, who unsurprisingly had something to say after hearing the name of his biggest rival on the ex-president’s lips…

McGregor Has Expected Response After Trump Picks Khabib

McGregor and Khabib had one of the most heated UFC feuds of all time, with public altercations and controversial remarks from the Irishman fueling an immense amount of bad blood in the lead-up to their UFC 229 main event in 2018.

And that boiled over following the Russian’s submission win, with Nurmagomedov vaulting the Octagon fence and attacking McGregor’s corner, sparking a brawl inside T-Mobile Arena.

In the years since, McGregor has kept his sights on “The Eagle,” frequently targeting him, his teammates, his religion, his late father, and his country on social media.

That trend continued in response to Khabib’s selection as Trump’s favorite fighter, with the Irishman jokingly branding it a “campaign-ending decision” from the Republican presidential nominee.

“Campaign ending decision, McGregor wrote. “A smelly fat mountain monkey from the inbred mountains of Dagestan is your favorite UFC (AMERICAN COMPANY) fighter? Wow. Abysmal.”

McGregor previously expressed support for Trump after he was the target of an assassination attempt while speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania last month.

Evidently, the Irishman’s hatred for Khabib is enough to put anyone in the firing line should they express admiration or appreciation for the Russian’s career.

Conor McGregor Lashes Out at Donald Trump: "Abysmal"

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has hit out at former United States President, Donald Trump after the avid mixed martial arts fan revealed the Dubliner’s arch-rival, and former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov was his favorite fighter.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from action for the last three years, most recently fracturing his left tibia and fibula in an opening round doctor stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier.

And forced from a return to competition at UFC 303 during International Fight Week back in June, McGregor revealed he fractured a toe on the same foot as his prior injury, ruling him from a matchup at the welterweight limit against veteran contender, Michael Chandler.

Conor McGregor hits out at Donald Trump in tirade of posts

Expected to make his return in December in a matchup against the above-mentioned, Chandler on the promotion’s final pay-per-view card of the year, McGregor was left in shock after the previously mentioned, Trump lauded Nurmagomedov as his favorite fighter of all-time.

“Campaign ending decision,” Conor McGregor posted on his official X account. “A smelly fat mountain monkey from the inbred mountains of Dagestan is your favorite UFC (AMERICAN COMPANY) fighter? Wow. Abysmal. I was actually wrong. Couple hundred million he is worth. Not multi B. I would have thought USA ONLY would be the mentality here and what I would want to see out of my President, personally.”

“To pick a retired inbred fighter from Dagestan, Russia who has 3 main events only to his name is astounding,” Conor McGregor continued. “Over all the American fighters that have backed him. It’s a shocking decision. He was caught on the spot. That won’t go unnoticed on the roster. This presidential race is very tight right now. More so now.”

“Trump’s favorite fighter,” Conor McGregor wrote. “Here he is in a tiny tub with his fellow inbred pals in Dagestan. Can you spot him? Where’s Khabib? Find Khabib.”
