Jon Jones Dan Hardy UFC 285

Ahead of his upcoming UFC 285 headliner against Ciryl Gane on March 4, former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has been warned about the potential adversity he’ll face at the heavyweight limit, with Octagon alum, Dan Hardy claiming the Rochester native gives up an abundance of his “natural advantages” in his move from 205lbs.

Jones, a former two-time undisputed light heavyweight titleholder, has been sidelined since February 2020, most recently defeating Dominick Reyes in a close, unanimous decision victory in Houston, Texas.

In the time since, Jones has yet to make a long-awaited heavyweight debut, however, given the recent departure of division champion, Francis Ngannou, Jones has now been booked to headline UFC 285 in a heavyweight bow for the vacant title against the aforenoted, Gane.

Dan Hardy breaks down Jon Jones’ heavyweight debut in March

Ahead of the move, Jones, who has been touted to likely find similar success to his gold-laden run at light heavyweight – a division lower, however, former UFC welterweight championship challenger, Hardy, has claimed the former is giving up advantageous plays to his game with the move.

“We don’t know how he’s going to perform with the bigger frame,” Dan Hardy said of Jon Jones during an interview with MMA Junkie. “Of course, he’s got the height and reach for heavyweight. He could quite easily grow into heavyweight, but then would he be the same fighter he was at light heavyweight? The times that he struggled at light heavyweight is when he was taking on someone that had similar physical attributes.”

“Remember the first (Alexander) Gustafsson fight, that was very problematic for him to being with,” Jon Jones explained. “Dominick Reyes was a pain for him at times, and I feel like Jon gives up a lot of his natural advantages that he had at light heavyweight when he moves to heavyweight.”
Tackling Gane on March 4. at the T-Mobile Arena, Jones’ stylistic matchup against the Frenchman may present him some problems according to Nottingham veteran, Hardy.

“Like Ciryl Gane’s 6ft 4in, 79-inch reach or something like that, but it’s going to be comparable to Jon Jones in ways that say a Daniel Cormier wasn’t back at light heavyweight,” Dan Hardy explained. “And the say Ciryl Gane moves is like light heavyweights did when Jon Jones was champion – the better ones. I think this is going to be a real challenge for him, and it’s difficult to kind of picture Jon Jones in a real heavyweight frame. What does he move like? What techniques has he abandoned? Is he going to have anxiety associated with because now he feels like he fills up with lactate and his muscles start to burn?”

“We know how good Ciryl Gane is, and the reason why he’s so good is because he does a lot of things Jon Jones did so well at light heavyweight,” Hardy said. “I almost think it would have been easier for Jones to take on (Francis) Ngannou, because at least you know what you’re getting. When he starts to move, you got to get out of the way. But Ciryl Gane stops never stops moving, so you can’t always stay out of the way, and we’ve seen Jon Jones kind of get outpointed a little bit at times by people that have got a good work rate and a long reach.”

Dana White

Dana White responds to Dan Hardy’s recent accusation that they staged a video showing his concern for Calvin Kattar’s health in his fight against Max Holloway.

White and Hardy have had a rocky relationship that dates back to Hardy’s time as a commentator in the UFC. White and the UFC granted Hardy his release after he got into a disagreement with people in the organization. Hardy also had a public disagreement live on television with Herb Dean over Dean taking too long to call off a fight. Hardy got up and was screaming at Dean to end the fight, which caused White to come to the side of Dean, claiming that Hardy was out of line for his outburst.

Hardy recently was interviewed and said that the UFC media team and White were staging his concern for Kattar.

“And it looks like, ‘Hey, they just caught this on camera across the arena.’ The dude was mic’d up. The receiver of the microphone was attached to the camera that was filming him from across the other side of the arena. That whole thing was staged to protect the UFC. And I watched that, and I’m like, ‘That’s just dirty.’ Actually do something to protect the fighter. Don’t do something to protect the sport or the company if the fighter gets damaged.” Hardy said about the situation.

Dana White aired out Hardy in the UFC 280 post fight press conferences

“I don’t even know what that means,” White answered with a harsh tone. “We’ve never staged anything, ever. You know, we have a documentary that we filmed during COVID. That’s why I was mic’d. I’ve never been mic’d, I was mic’d because of that. Are you talking about when I said, ‘let’s get him straight to the hospital?’ Do you know how many fights a week I say that. No interview, no nothing, that guy goes straight to the hospital.”

White continued to go off on Hardy, claiming that he doesn’t care what he has to say.

“I don’t give a f*ck what Dan Hardy says. Dan Hardy was a guy that was mistreating a woman that works here and that’s why he was fired. Obviously he’s bitter, so I’m assuming that’s why he would say something like that. Why would I stage that?… Everyone should have been concerned about Calvin Kattar that night.”

Dan Hardy claims that Dana White staged his video of himself being worried for Calvin Kattar’s health, while he was under contract with the UFC as a commentator.

Hardy left the UFC after he had a disagreement with a female employee in 2021. Hardy asked for his release from the UFC and they ended up granting him his leave. The former welterweight fighter speaks out about the UFC and what he doesn’t like about the promotion a lot, as he doesn’t hold back.

Hardy even stood up and yelled at referee Herb Dean to stop the fight between Francisco Tinaldo and Jai Herbert as he was commentating. The two ended up engaging in words in the middle of the event, while they were live. Hardy still stays critical of Dean, claiming he waits too long to stop fights. White came to the side of Dean ands took up for him, while calling Hardy out for his moment of outrage. White claimed that Hardy was out of his place to be calling out a referee live.

Dan Hardy had no problem calling out his former boss

Hardy was calling the Holloway and Kattar fight, but as he was calling it could tell the UFC was posturing up to make it seem like White truly cared about his fighter’s health. He claims White had the crew put the camera on him, while he was acting as if he was worried.

“And then going into the fifth round, and you have one guy that’s being beaten senseless by another fighter, right? Now, there is no reason why that fight shouldn’t have been stopped at the end of the fourth round. No discredit to Calvin Kattar, but he didn’t earn anything by taking that fifth round beating. But what we did see was that clip coming out of Dana talking to Hunter (Campbell) and being like, ‘Hey, we need to make sure he goes straight to a doctor after that.” (Transcribed by Yahoo.com)
