Dan Hardy was in shock after Brendan Loughnane was finished by huge underdog Jesus Pinedo last night at PFL 4.

Last night, the PFL held an event in Atlanta Georgia, headlined by homegrown talent and the winner of last years featherweight tournament, Loughnane. The Manchester born fighter enjoyed an incredible 2022, capping it off with an impressive win over Bubba Jenkins in the final of the tournament, and decided to re-enter the tournament this year.

Loughnane was tipped to win heading into the tournament as well as being a -500 favrioute last night over Pinedo. Unfortunately for Loughnane, Pinedo would catch him with a knee that would be the beginning of the end, finishing it up with ground and pound before the referee called a halt to the contest. The 33-year-old is now out of the tournament while Pinedo advances to the next step.

Dan Hardy reacts to Brendan Loughnane knockout loss at PFL 4

On commentary last night was Dan Hardy, a former UFC title challenger turned analyst and commentor, who has flourished in his duties since his competitive retirement. Hardy perfectly encapsulated of the shock of the finish last night.

Hardy, a fellow Brit, had spoken highly of Loughnane before and praised him in an intervierw with Fighters Only Magazine when discussing his role within PFL

The fact that we’ve already got Brendan Loughnane, who’s already won the featherweight world championship, he’s already walked that path, so European fighters can already see that it’s possible,” Hardy said.

Through all the adversity that he went through, as well, from not getting signed to the UFC when he should have been, and the criticism of his decision-making, he’s shown himself to be a world-class athlete right now, and he’s got the money and the belt to prove it. So he’s already done that for the European fighters.

Francis Ngannou backed to move to PFL I know he's coming UFC

Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has been backed to make a move to the PFL (Professional Fighters League) in the near future following his start-of-year Octagon departure, by former UFC welterweight title challenger, Dan Hardy.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, saw his contractual obligations with the promotion come to an end back in December of last year.

Stripped of his status as undisputed champion and removed from the official organizational rankings, Batié native, Ngannou also saw his period of exclusive negotiating with the UFC waived by the promotion, who showed the Cameroon native the proverbial door.

Most recently competing in professional mixed martial arts back in January of last year atop a UFC 270 card in Anaheim, California, Francis Ngannou defeated Ciryl Gane in a unanimous decision title unification success.

Weighing up a potential professional boxing transition against former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay WIlder of note, Ngannou confirmed recently that both the PFL and the Chatri Sityodtong-led ONE Championship were leading the face for his signature.

Dan Hardy expects the PFL to successfully push for Francis Ngannou’s signature

And according to Hardy, who himself recently joined PFL as their European head of fighter operations, expects Ngannou to follow in his path and join the organization’s heavyweight ranks next.

“We’ll [the PFL] have Francis Ngannou in no time coming over and fighting for it,” Dan Hardy told Middleeasy during a recent interview. “I just feel it in my bones. I know he’s coming. I just know he’s coming. I can just feel it. It makes sense. His demands for the UFC is exactly what the PFL are offering.”

“So, everything that he was asking for from the UFC, it’s already on the table over here as long as the money’s on the table alongside to match the heavyweight king’s purse, then I think you’ll be happy and I think we can certainly do that for him,” Dan Hardy continued. (Transcribed by BJPENN.com

Winning the undisputed UFC heavyweight crown back in March 2021 in a championship rematch against Stipe Miocic, Ngannou stopped the Ohio veteran with a thunderous second round KO at the UFC Apex facility.

Dan Hardy UFC state is run like Vladimir Putin Russia Dana White

Former UFC welterweight, Dan Hardy did not hold back when discussing Dana White and his latest venture, Power Slap.

Following his retirement in 2013, Hardy made the transition to analyst and commentator, eventually working up to take regular spots on the UFC’s broadcast team. All seemed well for the Englishman until March of 2021 when it was announced that Hardy and the UFC had parted ways.

This came after an alleged incident, of which details are still vague, involving Hardy and a UFC employee backstage. White accused Hardy of ‘mistreating’ the female UFC staffer, but also came after Hardy had confronted referee Herb Dean on the broadcast, citing concern for featherweight Calvin Kattar during his fight with Max Holloway.

Since then, the relationship between Hardy and the UFC, in particular White, has been rocky and  the 40-year-old has not held back criticism of White and the promotion.

Dan Hardy compares UFC to ‘Putin’s Russia’

Talking to Petesy Carrol on Ariel Helwani’s YouTube channel, Hardy would reveal that UFC staff take issue with White’s Power Slap. ‘The Outlaw’ believes that the promotion has some serious issues, with White carrying much of the blame.

“The majority of the people within the organization can’t stand it either, they just don’t feel like they have a choice”, said Hardy. “You know, it’s very much Putin’s Russia in the UFC right now. It’s depressing to see all these people that are usually really enthusiastic about mixed martial arts that are carrying this ridiculous circus of Power Slap on their side.

“The company’s been rotting from the inside for a long while, and now the rot’s starting to show on the outside. He’s [Dana White] gonna do more damage than anything else these days. He’s overstayed his welcome, absolutely.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Hardy has since began working with other MMA promotions such as Cage Warriors and PFL

Jon Jones Dan Hardy UFC 285

Ahead of his upcoming UFC 285 headliner against Ciryl Gane on March 4, former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has been warned about the potential adversity he’ll face at the heavyweight limit, with Octagon alum, Dan Hardy claiming the Rochester native gives up an abundance of his “natural advantages” in his move from 205lbs.

Jones, a former two-time undisputed light heavyweight titleholder, has been sidelined since February 2020, most recently defeating Dominick Reyes in a close, unanimous decision victory in Houston, Texas.

In the time since, Jones has yet to make a long-awaited heavyweight debut, however, given the recent departure of division champion, Francis Ngannou, Jones has now been booked to headline UFC 285 in a heavyweight bow for the vacant title against the aforenoted, Gane.

Dan Hardy breaks down Jon Jones’ heavyweight debut in March

Ahead of the move, Jones, who has been touted to likely find similar success to his gold-laden run at light heavyweight – a division lower, however, former UFC welterweight championship challenger, Hardy, has claimed the former is giving up advantageous plays to his game with the move.

“We don’t know how he’s going to perform with the bigger frame,” Dan Hardy said of Jon Jones during an interview with MMA Junkie. “Of course, he’s got the height and reach for heavyweight. He could quite easily grow into heavyweight, but then would he be the same fighter he was at light heavyweight? The times that he struggled at light heavyweight is when he was taking on someone that had similar physical attributes.”

“Remember the first (Alexander) Gustafsson fight, that was very problematic for him to being with,” Jon Jones explained. “Dominick Reyes was a pain for him at times, and I feel like Jon gives up a lot of his natural advantages that he had at light heavyweight when he moves to heavyweight.”
Tackling Gane on March 4. at the T-Mobile Arena, Jones’ stylistic matchup against the Frenchman may present him some problems according to Nottingham veteran, Hardy.

“Like Ciryl Gane’s 6ft 4in, 79-inch reach or something like that, but it’s going to be comparable to Jon Jones in ways that say a Daniel Cormier wasn’t back at light heavyweight,” Dan Hardy explained. “And the say Ciryl Gane moves is like light heavyweights did when Jon Jones was champion – the better ones. I think this is going to be a real challenge for him, and it’s difficult to kind of picture Jon Jones in a real heavyweight frame. What does he move like? What techniques has he abandoned? Is he going to have anxiety associated with because now he feels like he fills up with lactate and his muscles start to burn?”

“We know how good Ciryl Gane is, and the reason why he’s so good is because he does a lot of things Jon Jones did so well at light heavyweight,” Hardy said. “I almost think it would have been easier for Jones to take on (Francis) Ngannou, because at least you know what you’re getting. When he starts to move, you got to get out of the way. But Ciryl Gane stops never stops moving, so you can’t always stay out of the way, and we’ve seen Jon Jones kind of get outpointed a little bit at times by people that have got a good work rate and a long reach.”

With a rematch of their boxing showdown in the steel surroundings of a cage looking unlikely, Jake Paul has been pitched an opponent other than Nate Diaz for his potential mixed martial arts venture.

While building his record in the sport of professional boxing, Paul has long outlined his intention to also make a splash in the MMA world too. That appeared to take a step closer to coming to fruition in early 2023 when he put pen to paper on an MMA-exclusive deal with the Professional Fighters League (PFL).

At the time, the promotion noted that “The Problem Child” would spearhead its new PPV Super Fight division and make his debut in the SmartCage that same year. But in addition to 2023 completing without the ex-Disney star putting his MMA ambitions into motion, another calendar year is on its way to passing by.

After defeating former UFC star Nate Diaz in the ring last August, both Paul and the PFL higher-ups made public pleas for the Stockton native to meet the longtime online personality in the cage.

Since Diaz firmly dismissed that as a possibility, Paul’s focus has remained on boxing, where he’s set to face BKFC star Mike Perry later this month and heavyweight legend Mike Tyson toward the back end of 2024.

With that, the chances of Paul crossing over to the cage are looking increasingly more unlikely. One ex-fighter and key figure in the PFL’s expansion, however, still sees an opponent who could convince the Cleveland native to lace the 4oz gloves…

Hardy: Paul Could Be ‘Enticed’ To MMA For Woodley Fight

During an interview with MMA Fighting, Dan Hardy — a former UFC title challenger and the current director of fighter operations for PFL Europe — was asked about the current state of Paul’s plans in MMA.

After noting that a bout with Diaz appeared to take up all of Paul’s mixed martial arts interest, “The Outlaw” suggested that Diaz’s rejection stems from his fear of a stock-damaging defeat to “The Problem Child” in his realm of the fight game.

With that ship seemingly sailing, Hardy does have another name in mind that could reignite Paul’s interest in MMA.

“I think the idea ultimately was for Jake Paul to be able to get Nate Diaz in a cage and fight him in mixed martial arts,” Hardy said. “I think he had his heart set on Nate Diaz and I don’t think Nate Diaz wants to take the risk of sullying his name and his brand by losing to Jake in an MMA fight. I hate to say it but after watching the boxing match, I think Jake could potentially be a problem for Nate in MMA.

“If we’re doing it, the one that makes the most sense is Tyron Woodley. He’s been commentating with the PFL, he does a great job with that. Every time I see him, we have a very frosty handshake. I feel like he still wants to punch me in the face,” Hardy continued. “Of course, he’s got that knockout loss to Jake Paul. If I’m Tyron Woodley, I’m putting myself at the front of the line to welcome Jake Paul into MMA. I think that’s the kind of opponent Jake Paul could be enticed by.”

Paul and Woodley certainly have a history, having faced each other twice inside the squared circle. While their first contest in August 2021 was a close and competitive affair, the short-notice rematch four months later concluded with the former UFC champion face down on the canvas.

Having continued to express his plans to revisit MMA three years on from his UFC exit, perhaps “The Chosen One” will raise his hand for the task of welcoming Paul to the SmartCage.

For now, though, the polarizing YouTuber-turned-boxer will have his sights on a different ex-UFC athlete in Perry, who has emerged as a leading figure in bare-knuckle boxing owing to victories over Michael “Venom” Page, Luke Rockhold, Eddie Alvarez, and Thiago Alves.
