UFC president Dana White has a lot going on with the impending UFC 136 fight card about to happen and the UFC fan expo happening in Houston.

After UFC 136, White has to start thinking about a lot of things inside his promotions divisions. The lightweight division will have a true champion come Sunday, and the middleweight division might have its No. 1 contender.

But who deserves it more, the winner of Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann or Dan Henderson?

“We’ve got to see what happens here,” White told the media after the UFC 136 pre-fight press conference. “The winner of [Sonnen-Stann] deserves a shot at Anderson Silva? It’d be tough to say no. But if Henderson beats Shogun, it’d be tough to say that Henderson doesn’t deserve the shot either. So we’ll see what happens.”

UFC 139 will be Henderson’s return to the UFC after a short year long stint with Strikeforce. Henderson has knocked out the last three fighters he’s faced, including Renato Sobral, Rafael Cavalcante and Fedro Emelianenko.

Henderson has also won six of his last seven fights since Silva beat him at UFC 82. If Sonnen were to beat Stann, it would be in his first fight since his loss to Silva in August of 2010.

On the other hand, if Stann were to beat Sonnen, then Stann would be on a four-fight win streak, all of which have come at the middleweight level. Stann dropped down from light heavyweight for good after a loss to Phil Davis at UFC 109.

But as for now, Silva is on the shelf with an injury.

“He has bursitis in his shoulder,” White said. “The doctor told him he needs to rest it for eight weeks, and he’s doing physical therapy. It’s not like he’s got some injury that needs surgery or anything like that. As amazing as this guy is, we forget this guy is 37 years old.”

Lyoto Machida finally has an opponent lined up and it will be none other than UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

UFC president Dana White broke the news today on Twitter, announcing the fight as the main event of UFC 140.

Jones recently defended his title for the first time against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135.

The last time we saw Machida he was retiring Randy Couture with an amazing jumping front kick that KO’d the UFC legend.

Machida will be Jones’ toughest test to date. His style of elusive karate is one of the hardest for fighters to figure out.

Despite this, Jones will find a way to beat Machida. Here are the reasons why.

Lyoto Machida will finally get his chance to compete in the Octagon again before the end of the year.

After learning of Rashad Evans’ hand injury, UFC President Dana White announced “The Dragon” will step in for the former UFC light heavyweight champion to face Jon Jones at UFC 140 on December 10 in Toronto.

While speaking to TATAME.com, Machida said he received information about the potential bout a few days ago and he couldn’t refuse the offer.

“I accepted immediately, I couldn’t announce it at the time, though,” Machida said. “In the morning I went to give a class and, when I came back, the contract was there for me to sign it. It was a reason for me to be happy, because that’s why we enter these battles for.”

The Brazilian is 2-2 in his last four bouts, and although it isn’t the most impressive record to earn a title shot, Machida was fortunate to be offered the opportunity.

A lot of fans have requested a bout between the two competitors because of the potential challenges that Machida presents to Jones, stylistically. Machida said he has always been aware of Jones’ style, which he compares to his own.

While he admits he hasn’t focused on Jones entirely, partially due to his own preparations for bouts against Randy Couture and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, respectively, Machida said he is completely focused and prepared to compete against the champion.

“It’ll be a strategic bout, he’s a guy who studies his opponents and so do I,” he said. “Now he’s my opponent, it’s set in stone. From this moment on the study will reinforced, and the dedication too.”

Machida is coming off a knockout victory over Randy Couture at UFC 129, which saw him snap a two-fight losing streak. Meanwhile, Jones will make his second title defense and will be competing in his fourth bout this year.

UFC 136 Edgar vs. Maynard III: Who’s on the Hot Seat?

For the first time since UFC 69, the UFC invades Houston, TX. With two title bouts and a possible middleweight title eliminator, UFC 136 is poised to blow the roof off of the Toyota Center. The last time the UFC held an event here was the night Matt Serra shocked the world and knocked Georges St. Pierre out and took the UFC Welterweight Championship back to Long Island, NY.

Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will look to pick up where they left off this past New Year’s night when the two men battled for five hard rounds only to see the fight scored a draw at UFC 125. Edgar will look to defend his title for the third time against the only man to have ever defeated him.

In what will most likely be Kenny Florian’s last shot at winning a UFC title, the Boston native will take on Jose Aldo. This will be Florian’s third attempt at winning a championship, having lost to Sean Sherk and BJ Penn in attempts to capture the UFC Lightweight Championship. Aldo will look to defend the UFC Featherweight Title for the second time, having defeated Mark Hominick at UFC 129.

Chael Sonnen makes his return after a 14-month layoff due to a suspension, as he will face Brian Stann in a bout that could determine the next man to face Anderson Silva for a shot at the UFC Middleweight Championship. Sonnen and Silva met at UFC 117 back in August of 2010. Sonnen dominated the champion for four and a half rounds before getting submitted via triangle choke late in the fifth round. Stann has won three fights in a row since dropping down to middleweight.

This card is so stacked that the Spike TV bouts could be as exciting as any of the main card bouts. Anthony Pettis will face Jeremy Stephens and Demian Maia will take on Jorge Santiago. Joey Beltran, a fighter who has proven to be very entertaining, is relegated to the undercard.

Now that we have gone over the positives of this card, it is time to take a look at the negative aspects. We will now focus on the fighters who could find themselves without a job should they lose on Saturday night.

Whether it’s a losing streak or their inability to put on an exciting fight, there are always a few fighters who are on The Hot Seat.

Hopes for the eagerly anticipated match between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and his former teammate and friend turned foe, Rashad Evans, have been dashed.

Today Dana White made the shocking announcement for the main event of UFC 140 in Toronto—Evans is out, Machida is in.

Rashad previously lost his first opportunity to meet Jones at UFC 133 in August of this year, when Jones dropped out due to a lingering hand injury.

Evans then fought replacement Tito Ortiz at UFC 133 and won via TKO in the second round. With the victory Evans was once again next in line for a shot at Jones and the title.

Timing and injury conspired against Evans. Nursing a broken hand, Evans recently had pins removed and was cleared to start training in three weeks.

The UFC needed a big name marquee event for the Toronto event on December 10, and it was ruled that Evans would not have sufficient time to prepare. Lyoto “Anderson Money” Machida has been given the slot.

Machida won the UFC light heavyweight crown from Evans via KO at UFC 98 on May 23 2009, before losing it to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua a year later.

It has just been announced that Rashad Evans will not have the next title shot after all.

UFC President, Dana White tweeted on Thursday morning, saying:

“Alright Toronto!!! Dec 10th UFC 140 tix go on sale next weekend and ur main event is Bones Jones vs Machida!!!”

This fight was completely unexpected, and came out of the blue. But UFC 140 sure is looking like a great card now.

Jon Jones won the light heavyweight belt back in March, when he defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua via third round TKO. He then went on to defend the belt against Rampage Jackson, who he defeated by fourth-round submission.

Lyoto Machida has been out of action since UFC 129, where he jumping front kicked Randy Couture, knocking him out and sending him into retirement.

Prior to that, Machida dropped two straight fights. One via KO to Shogun Rua, and one via split decision to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

This is huge news, as Rashad Evans gets passed over for a title shot once again.

UFC 140 takes place on December 10th in Toronto, Canada.
