UFC 131 from the Rogers Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia was an action-packed pay-per-view.
The main card was highlighted by the featherweight debut of Kenny Florian as he defeated the highly talented Brazilian, Diego Nunes in an extremely entertaining affair.
Not to be outdone, Mark Munoz capitalized on his wrestling background, boxing talent, and savage ground-and-pound as he secured a controversial decision victory over Demian Maia.
On Spike TV, Sam Stout secured his “Hands of Stone” nickname as he left Yves Edwards unconscious in the center of the Octagon from a hellacious left hook.
And to wrap up the night’s fights, Junior dos Santos exhibited a boxing clinic on the steel-jawed Shane Carwin securing his number one contendership position against the current UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.
A tremendous fight card with non-stop action caused immediate buzz worldwide. Millions of fans and fighters took to twitter in response to the action inside the Octagon.

UFC 131 Results: Why Junior Dos Santos Will Beat Cain Velasquez
Bleacher Report’s Alex Johnson:
Post-UFC 131, it seems more than apparent that Junior Dos Santos is the number one contender in the Heavyweight Division.
JDS showed a dominant standup and ground game in his fight with Shane Carwin, along with the sportsmanship of a true athlete. Furthermore, it seems more than plausible that Dos Santos will be able to take on Cain Velasquez and beat him without much trouble at all.
This isn’t to take anything away from Velasquez, who is a great athlete and champion, but Junior seems to be fighting on a whole new level.

UFC 131 Results: Is Dave Herman Too Small to Compete in the UFC HW Division?
Bleacher Report’s Andrew Mahlmann:
The short answer is “no”, but the long answer is “probably”.
The reason why the short answer is “no” is because we are not talking about championship-level fights.
At a muscular 6’5” and 233 pounds, Herman has enough size to be successful against the majority of professional heavyweights…. but, he will hit a ceiling at some point.
Just as Fedor Emelianenko found out, larger and more skilled athletes are entering the sport every year.
By the time Herman is able to generate significant momentum in the UFC, there will be somebody bigger than him and ready to derail him.
The reason why my long answer is not a definitive “yes”, and just a “probably” is that at 26 years old, we do not know how much more Herman might physically grow.

UFC 131 Results: 10 Million-Dollar Predictions for the UFC 132 Fight Card
Bleacher Report’s Dale De Souza:
UFC 131 is in the books, capped off beautifully by an outstanding Heavyweight war between Junior “Cigano” dos Santos and Shane Carwin on a night where the judging issue started to raise malevolent mentalities in the minds of the fans.
Arguably, many fans believe that while the victories of Mark Munoz and Kenny Florian cannot provide true dispute, The argument of Munoz and Florian earning 30-27 scores is definitely disputed as it seemed clear that Demian Maia and Diego “The Gun” Nunes won the first round of their respective bouts.
At this time, however, that argument is neither here nor there, as we must look forward into UFC 132 in a little bit less than three weeks instead of solidly planting ourselves in the memories of last night.
Headlined by a grudge match between current UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz and former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and co-headlined by a Fight of The Year candidate-on-paper in the long-awaited Middleweight collision between Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben, the UFC 132 fight card will pick up where UFC 131 left off, focusing mostly on the Light-and-Lighterweight classes and hopefully elevate the momentum gained from last night’s card to a brand new level.
For a million-dollar card featuring some million-dollar fights—all for only about $45 out of your pocket—here now are some million-dollar predictions for the entire UFC 132 main card!

UFC 131 Results: Junior Dos Santos Earns Title Shot, Carwin Earns a Trip to ER
On Saturday Junior dos Santos battered Shane Carwin for three rounds, earning himself a shot at the UFC heavyweight title that is currently held by Cain Velasquez.
Many wondered if the pure striking power of Carwin would negate the skill and speed of dos Santos. Any thoughts that Carwin would have an advantage were quickly put to rest.
In the first round dos Santos repeatedly drove surprisingly fast jabs through the guard of Carwin. The fast shots were clearly doing damage, leaving welts on Carwin’s face as they made impact.
Dos Santos dropped Carwin later in the first round. He then committed to trying to finish Carwin, landing numerous, barely-defended strikes to the increasingly bloodied face of Carwin. The fight appeared very close to being stopped, however, referee Herb Dean must have saw something that most others watching the fight were unable to discern as he allowed the fight to continue.
Carwin weathered the storm, but he was badly damaged. To borrow a phrase from the professional wrestling announcers of my youth, dos Santos had left Carwin’s face a crimson mask.
Carwin was never in the fight. As the three-round battle continued it was clear that without the ability to deliver a knockout punch or secure a takedown, Carwin had very little to offer. According to CompuStrike, Carwin landed a total of 13 strikes during the course of the 15-minute bout, while dos Santos landed 94, 76 of which were deemed power strikes.
The judges scores (30-27, 30-27,30-26) were a foregone conclusion, giving the fight to dos Santos, who showed no ill effects after the completed main event fight.
The win earned dos Santos a shot at Velasquez, while the loss earned Carwin a trip to the emergency room. Carwin, according to Ingrained Media, sustained three deep cuts, a broken nose and was in need of a CT. A tweet later updated Carwin’s status, saying that he “has a broken nose and possibly a fractured check bone. CT scan was fine.”
No date has been set for the bout between Velasquez and dos Santos.
