Conor McGregor will not fight in 2024 says Dana White

Former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor will not make his return to fighting by the end of this year at least, according to CEO, Dana White – amid continued links to a December comeback in the main event of UFC 310 against Michael Chandler.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion, has been out of action for the last three years, amid a fractured left tibia and fibula suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in 2021.

However, officially booked to headline UFC 303 at the end of June during International Fight Week, McGregor was slated to take on the above-mentioned former Bellator MMA gold holder, Chandler over the course of five rounds at the welterweight limit.

However, McGregor’s pursuit of a comeback at UFC 310 at the end of the annum has been shut down by the above-mentioned promotional leader, White, who confirmed he would not book the Dubliner to compete this year.

“We talked, we talked,” Dana White said of Conor McGregor following the Contender Series overnight. “We didn’t meet up but we talked, and yeah, he wants to fight. So, we’ll figure it out. Not this year. He won’t fight this year.”

Replying to White’s comments on social media in a now-deleted tirade, McGregor urged the fans to pressure the boss to book him at UFC 310.

“Ah Dana, December is the date!” Conor McGregor posted on his official X account. “Bring the calendar year home with a winning event! Come on now, what’s this? I am off to altitude next month to prepare. DECEMBER! Tell Dana and UFC WE WANT DECEMBER! WE DESERVE DECEMBER!”

UFC's Georges St-Pierre on PED testing: 'If the organization has power in their testing it's corrupt'

Former two-division UFC champion, Georges St-Pierre has claimed that if any organization has links or “power” when it comes to their testing – it’s likely going to cause come claims of corruption, as well as potential questions of a conflict of interest.

St-Pierre, a renowned mixed martial arts legends – heralded as one of the greatest fighters to ever combat in combat sports, enjoyed a lengthy reign as welterweight champion twice in the UFC – before snapping a retirement to snatch the undisputed middleweight crown.

Minting himself as a two-weight champion back in late 2017, Georges St-Pierre submitted then-middleweight kingpin, Michael Bisping with a rear-naked choke in their title fight at Madison Square Garden, before a bout of debilitating ulcerative colitis forced him back into retirement.

Georges St-Pierre hints at UFC “corruption” with drug testing

A major proponent for the introduction of drug testing during his era atop the promotion’welterweight pile, Canadian star, St-Pierre has claimed any organization utilizing their own power when it comes to testing for performance enhancing drugs or substances in their company, is very much “corrupt”, however.

They’re [the UFC] not with USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) anymore, but I think they hire another organization to do the tests now,” Georges St-Pierre told Theo Von during a podcast appearance. But I do believe that if you want to avoid corruption, it needs to be a seprated entity that do the tests than the organization itself. If the organization has power in their testing, it’s corrupt.”

Over the course of his gold laden spell with the UFC, St-Pierre avenged his sole professional losses to both Matt Hughes and Matt Serra with knockouts, as well as chalked up impressive wins over other contenders including the likes of Frank Trigg, Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn, Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves, Carlos Condit, Nick Diaz, Jake Shields, and Johny Hendricks to name a few.

Francis Ngannou's coach to Dana White: 'Set your ego aside' to book Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou

Eric Nicksick, the coach of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, believes a fight between ‘The Predator’ and Jon Jones is still possible, so long as Dana White can set his ego aside.

After years of trying to get a deal done with the Cameroonian, the UFC opted to part ways with Ngannou in early 2023 and seemingly forgo any possibility of booking a bout between him and Jones. However, Nicksick doesn’t necessarily see it that way.

“Money talks man, and no disrespect to Dana but he has a boss as well,” Nicksick told MMA Junkie. “If somebody tells [him], ‘Hey man, this is a lot of money. We’re taking this. Set your ego aside.’ I think Dana is in a position where he wants to make the best fights, and he’s not gonna let his ego, or past history, take advantage of that” (h/t Sportskeeda).

Unfortunately, White doesn’t seem interested in trying to work with Ngannou’s new employer, the Professional Fighters League, to make it happen.

Francis Ngannou books PFL debut while ‘Bones’ gears up for a scrap with miocic at MSG

After testing out his skills in the sweet science against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, Ngannou will finally make his PFL debut on Saturday, October 19. ‘The Predator’ will meet 2023 PFL heavyweight champion Renan Ferreira at the promotion’s first superfight series event on pay-per-view.

Ferreira earned the opportunity to face Ngannou after scoring a 21-second KO against Ryan Bader at the PFL vs. Bellator event in Riyadh earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Jon Jones is preparing for his long-awaited return to the Octagon after taking the vacant UFC heavyweight title via a quickfire submission victory over Ciryl Gane in May 2023. Bones’ was originally scheduled to defend his belt against consensus heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic last November, but a torn pectoral took him out of the bout.

Jones vs. Miocic is expected to go down this November when the promotion makes its annual pit stop at MSG, though no official announcements have been made.

Unlike UFC CEO Dana White, Jon Anik isn’t confident that Jon Jones sticks around to fight interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

Not many topics have remained at the surface of the mixed martial arts community in 2024 quite like the UFC’s heavyweight title picture, which currently boasts two champions but uncertainty regarding whether they will ever face each other.

That problem arose after an injury to Jones late last year saw his planned defense against Stipe Miocic canceled and an interim titleholder crowned in his absence. And when Aspinall captured that belt, talk turned to a unification showdown.

However, both Jones and the UFC have other plans, remaining firm on rearranging the Miocic fight for the Madison Square Garden event this November. In the meantime, Aspinall has recorded the first successful defense of his gold, knocking out Curtis Blaydes in quick time at UFC 304 last month.

While the Brit — as well as plenty of fans and analysts — has expressed doubt over his dream fight with Jones reaching the Octagon, White recently predicted that the all-time great will delay a possible retirement should he defeat Miocic in order to face the challenge of Aspinall.

But the man who would be tasked with calling that monumental heavyweight clash doesn’t have high hopes…

Anik Doesn’t Share White’s Confidence On Jones vs. Miocic Coming To Fruition

During the latest episode of his podcast alongside ex-fighter Kenny Florian, Anik gave his take on the current status of the championship conversation at heavyweight.

The longtime play-by-play commentator shared White’s sentiment when it comes to Jones wanting to challenge himself against the division’s highly regarded interim champ. Anik doesn’t, however, believe that feeling will be stronger than the Rochester native’s desire to protect his legacy on MMA’s biggest stage.

“I would agree with Dana White in so far as that Jon Jones, if he beats Stipe Miocic, would want to challenge himself against someone like Tom Aspinall,” Anik said. “And what better way to put a capstone on your career as the consensus greatest MMA fighter of all time than to beat a guy in Tom Aspinall who is all the rage at present, and a guy who many forecast to be the greatest mixed martial arts heavyweight of all time. I think he wants the challenge — not at the expense of his legacy.

“If he can beat Stipe Miocic as a -350 betting favorite and ride off into the Albuquerque sunset, I am expectant that that is what he is going to do,” Anik continued. “I know Dana and others have said they’d be surprised if Jon doesn’t bite off that Aspinall challenge if he beats Stipe. I would, with respect, go the other way. If I could get a betting line on Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall never f*cking happening, I would ask my wife if I could, you know, spend several figures on that.”

For now, Jones appears to be ramping up his physical activity as he prepares to make his way back from injury later this year. What comes after a potential victory over the returning Miocic, however, remains to be seen.
