Oron Kahlon Calls Afghan Opponent A ‘Terrorist’ At DWCS 45 Weigh-In

Things got heated between Israel’s Oron Kahlon and Afghanistan’s Javid Basharat during the weigh-ins for their Contender Series bout.

Kahlon and Basharat were originally scheduled to have a fight in the bantamweight division at Dana White‘s Contender Series 45 on Tuesday. However, Kahlon came in at 139-pounds Monday afternoon, missing the divisional limit by 3 pounds.

When the two were paired up for the ceremonial face-off, Basharat refused to shake Kahlon’s hand, seemingly annoyed at the weight miss. This led to some verbal sparring between the two, and Kahlon could be heard calling Basharat a ‘terrorist’ as they turned away from each other.

In a post on his Instagram account, Basharat shared a clip of the incident and confirmed what was said.

“This pussy wanted a way out of by missing weight by 3 pounds,” Basharat wrote in the caption of the video. “I told him I was still going to whoop his arse, he then called me a terrorist. Wanted a reaction again wanted a way out. Unlucky for him I ain’t going nowhere! I’m waiting to see him tomorrow.”

To say political tensions between Israel and Afghanistan are high is putting it mildly. Since Afghanistan was taken over by the Taliban in August, they have cut off all ties with Israel. The last member of Afghanistan’s Jewish community left the country earlier this month.

Kahlon and Basharat will will now meet at a catchweight, with Basharat receiving 20% of the Israeli fighter’s purse. Hopefully, the two men will be able to keep things much more civil when they meet in the cage on Tuesday.

Week 8 of Dana White’s Contender Series has come and gone, and it was a good one. There were four finishes, and the main event was a striking delight.

The Results

Jonny Parsons defeated Solomon Renfro via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Piera Rodriguez defeated Valesca Machado via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Caio Borralho defeated Jesse Murray via TKO – Round 1, 1:41

Armen Petrosyan defeated Kaloyan Kolev via knockout – Round 1, 4:27

Pedro Falcao defeated James Barnes via knockout – Round 3, 3:55

White passed on Falcao, saying, “I’m not overly excited about him right now. Listen, I think this guy we’ll eventually end up here, just not tonight.”

The rest of the fighters, however, he gave contracts.

Petrosyan is now 6-1 with six finishes, keeping his 100% finish rate intact. White added that he could not wait to see this guy fight again, and I can’t blame him. The Armenian looked fantastic, and his striking is very high level.

Borralho (10-1) didn’t receive a contract on week five after defeating top prospect Aaron Jeffery, but he left no doubt that he was getting one on week eight when he finished his opponent in under two minutes.

“I respect very much that you came back, and you fought again. You know, you came back and did it again three weeks later. You looked incredible tonight, knocked him out and came over and screamed in my face that you belong here. Get over here,” White told Borralho.

In the lone female fight, Rodriguez kept her undefeated record and grew it to 7-0. White was very impressed with Rodriguez, claiming she had a great chin and went through adversity.

In the main event, Parsons won a very, very close split decision over Renfro. White was impressed that Parsons was a 4-1 underdog and kept coming forward against a physical specimen. White did say he believes Parsons can cut to lightweight, to which Parsons said he would go to the UFC PI and get it all figured out.

It was a great night of fights and four incredible new UFC fighters.

For Jake Hadley, joining the UFC was a lifelong dream that apparently started sometime around his 9th birthday.

Hadley was brought on to Dana White‘s Tuesday Night Contender Series for a chance at a UFC contract. The reigning Cage Warriors and EFC flyweight champion was paired up against TUF alumni Mitch Raposo, and looked good on his way to a second round submission victory.

However, there was doubt he be given a contract at the end of the night due to him missing weight for the fight. Fortunately for Hadley, he impressed White enough to earn a contract, much to the apparent surprise of Mick Maynard and Sean Shelby (h/t Sportskeeda).

“When I left the back room, my instructions were to not sign this guy,” White said at the post-event press conference. “According to Hunter [Campbell], Sean and Mick stormed out of the room when I did and took off tonight so they’re not happy about it. I just have a gut feeling that this kid has something special and I broke all my own rules and didn’t listen to what they said, so hopefully, I’m right on this and this kid doesn’t make a d—head out of me.”

In the aftermath, Hadley has since taken to social media to express his gratitude. The 25-year-old posted a video on Instagram taken during his 9th birthday party. In it, Hadley blows out the candles on his birthday cake and is then asked what he wished for. After some reluctance to make sure he doesn’t spoil the wish, Hadley says, “What I want the most in the world? I want to be a UFC fighter.”

“Imagine being inches away from achieving a childhood goal and thinking you blew it for the time being then getting what you have been working towards for years,” Hadley wrote in the caption. “2nd video is me at 9 years old birthday wishing I become a ufc fighter 1 day well I’ve achieved that now and next I’m coming for the belt this is my whole life work.”

The UFC president gets concerned when his ex-fighters go to bare-knuckle boxing.

On Monday, it was revealed that one-time BKFC competitor Justin Thornton had passed away due to injuries suffered in a knockout loss in August. Thornton fought Dillon Cleckler on August 20 at BKFC 20: Bedford vs. Barnett and ended up getting knocked out in 19 seconds. He was rushed to the hospital following the loss and was reportedly partially paralyzed from his injuries. Thornton would remain in the hospital until his death.

During the post-fight press conference of week six of Dana White’s Contender Series, Dana White asked about his thought on the situation around Thornton’s death and bare-knuckle boxing.

White isn’t a fan.

“Well, let me start here. Is anybody shocked? I mean, in bare-knuckle fighting. You know, I’m not a big fan. I get; I guess I would call it concerned when I see some of our people when they leave here and go there. It’s like, oh my god,” White told the media.

The UFC President would go on to say that he has never had a serious injury inside of the UFC.

“When you look at this, we’ve been putting on fights for 25 years; I’ve done over like 7,000 fights with no serious injuries in the UFC. We’ve had some broken bones-some bad broken bones, the shin bone being the worst because it blows our minds when that thing breaks. And cuts,” White said. “I mean, that’s what we have.”

The shin bone break he is talking about is the most recent horrible injury. In July, Conor McGregor broke his leg at UFC 264, and Chris Weidman broke his leg at UFC 261 in April. Before them, Anderson Silva famously broke his leg fighting Weidman.

White continued and said that the number one thing he cares about above everything else is fighter safety pre-and post-fight. He even said that in 20 years, his medical team had found ten athletes who had life-threatening medical problems before fighting.

White ended by saying that he and UFC were very sorry to hear that Thornton had passed away.
