Curtis Blaydes explains why he has no issues with the UFC trying to book a fight between UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar.

With “DC” being out of action right now with an injury and Lesnar still focused on his WWE commitments, this fight has been delayed. As a result, over the past few months, it’s been holding up the division.

Blaydes, who is a top contender in the UFC heavyweight division, recently gave his take about this fight while promoting his co-headlining contest of UFC Nashville against Justin Willis.

From his standpoint, he doesn’t have an issue with it because he understands the situation. That is the fact that the UFC is trying to give back to Cormier before he retires from the sport.

“When it was first brought up last year at UFC 226 I was there, I saw the whole Brock going in the cage,” Blaydes told MMA Junkie. “I saw that, I get it. They want to send ‘DC’ off with that big payday and he’s earned it. He’s been the face of the company for like the last four or five years. He’s fought Jon Jones, he’s fought Anthony Johnson and he’s fought some of the biggest names. He’s earned his. I have no problem with it.”

Lesnar had to enter into the USADA testing pool after failing a drug test resulting in his fight against Mark Hunt. That forced him to be tested for six months before fighting again. He’s cleared of that timetable but must pay a hefty fine as that’s the only thing keeping him from action inside of the Octagon.

Quote: Brock Lesnar Will Be Tougher Fight For Daniel Cormier Than Lewis

Daniel Cormier has booked himself in a fight that could be the toughest contest of his pro-MMA career.

The post Quote: Brock Lesnar Will Be Tougher Fight For Daniel Cormier Than Lewis appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Brock Lesnar will be a tougher fight for Daniel Cormier than his latest bout against Derrick Lewis, according to one former UFC star. DC continues to add more achievements to his legacy that will be looked upon once he steps away from the sport of MMA.

Over the weekend at the UFC 230 pay-per-view event, Cormier was able to successfully retain his title over Lewis. It’s been established that Cormier would like to make his next title defense against Lesnar at the UFC 233 event.

Brendan Schaub recently gave some high praise to Cormier following UFC 230.

“What makes DC great is yes, obviously he’s athletic. He’s gifted with some abilities a lot of other guys aren’t, but Daniel Cormier’s brain, his cerebral game is so much better than everybody else that’s ever fought,” Schaub said recently on his Below the Belt podcast.

Brock Lesnar More Threating To The King?

The former UFC heavyweight star continued by stating that Cormier has a better mental game than Jon Jones or even Alexander Gustafsson.

“He’s way better at the mental aspect of facing adversity, sticking to a game plan with what he has. Is he more athletic than Jon Jones? No. Is he more athletic than Gustafsson? No. His mental game is so much better than these guys. He’s the most intelligent fighter to ever fight in the UFC. I truly believe that.”

The former MMA fighter turned podcaster and comedian brought up how Lesnar is an athletically freak. He also thinks that Lesnar doesn’t get talked about enough for this.

“[With Lesnar] you’re talking a complete freak,” said Schaub (H/T to MMAFighting). “Athletically, is he the biggest freak to ever do it? He’s f**king up there, man. We don’t talk about it enough. A guy at his age and with his background. He’s not even a part time mixed martial artist.”

At the end of the day, Schaub sees Cormier fighting Lesnar as a tougher fight than against Derrick Lewis.

“He’s f**king tough to deal with. No one goes in there and is like, ‘Ah this is a gimme fight.’ Even DC’s not like that. I promise you Brock Lesnar will be a tougher fight for DC than Derrick Lewis was. We don’t give that man enough props.”

Daniel Cormier Opens As Huge Favorite Against Derrick Lewis Unlike Brock Lesnar Fight

Early betting odds have been released for this UFC 230 headliner and there’s been a wild swing compared to DC’s fight against Brock Lesnar.

Daniel Cormier opens as a huge favorite when it comes to his next UFC heavyweight title defense against Derrick Lewis. It was originally announced that DC would defend the title against former champion Brock Lesnar in January of 2019.

Changes

However, with the UFC needing a main event for the UFC 230 pay-per-view event, plans changed. The Las Vegas-based promotion revealed on Tuesday that Cormier would fight hard-hitting Derrick Lewis in the headliner of UFC 230.

‘DC’ was able to score a KO win over Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title in the main event the UFC 226 pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After the fight, there was an intense moment between Cormier and the former UFC heavyweight champion. This set up the fight that can go down as early as January. That fight is still there to do if Cormier can get passed Lewis.

Lewis Cleared

The Nevada State Athletic Commission originally gave Lewis a 30-day medical suspension for a “tough fight.” With that said, it would have not made Lewis eligible to return in time for this UFC 230 fight. However, the NSAC updated the document and it now shows Lewis with a 21-day suspension. Thus, he can fight.

Once Lesnar vs. Cormier was announced, the opening betting odds had at -200 for Cormier and +180 for Lesnar. A winning $100 bet on Cormier would net a profit of $50 while on the flip side, a winning $100 bet on Lesnar would garner a profit of $180.

Daniel Cormier Opens

Now, the betting odds for Cormier vs. Lewis has opened with Cormier listed as a 9-1 favorite. On the flip side, Lewis is listed as the underdog is in the +500 range and as high as +650.

The UFC 230 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City with the main card airing on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Daniel Cormier Reveals Retirement Plans, Eyes Two Huge Fights

Cormier has doubled down on his exit strategy from MMA.

The post Daniel Cormier Reveals Retirement Plans, Eyes Two Huge Fights appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Daniel Cormier reveals his retirement plans as he’s eyeing two big fights before stepping away from the sport of MMA.

Since July, there has been a lot of speculation whether or not Cormier would defend his 205-division belt before he decides to walk away. The UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion is supposed to make his first heavyweight title defense against Brock Lesnar as the king of the 265-pound division in January of 2019.

If Cormier actually goes through with fighting two more times, it’s possible that the promotion books him in January or February against Lesnar. Then, pushes his fight against Jon Jones to March or April. Either way, it would be a big risk by DC.

“DC’s” Plan

Well, “DC” recently went on record by stating that he plans to fight Lesnar then his archrival in Jones. However, if he can’t fight Lesnar first then he’s willing to give Stipe Miocic another shot at the crown.

”If Lesnar can’t fight, I’d fight Stipe,” Cormier told TMZ Sports. “But it’s gonna be Jones at least. Lesnar and Jones. Lesnar first, Jones after.”

Cormier scored a KO win over Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title in the main event of the UFC 226 pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. DC has also made it known that he wants his third fight against Jones to be at light heavyweight.

”I want to fight Jones at 205,” he said (H/T to MMAMania). “Because that’s where he beat me. He beat me at 205. I want to beat him where he beat me. And I think Jon and I are on the same wavelength in that sense … and we’re never on the same wavelength. We don’t agree on anything. It’s always going to be that intense.”

What The Boss Says

This is against what UFC President Dana White has been saying, which is the fight would go down at heavyweight.

“But both of us want to fight at 205 and ultimately … Dana is a powerful guy but ultimately what we decide is what we’re going to do. And if both of us say we’re going to fight at 205, that’s where we’re going to fight.”

Daniel Cormier Says Win Over Brock Lesnar Could Make Him HW GOAT

Daniel Cormier just wants to be remembered.

Daniel Cormier continues to make the media rounds following his latest win and talk about the biggest fight thus far in his pro-MMA career

It’s been well documented that once Cormier was able to score a KO win over Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title at the UFC 226 pay-per-view event and after the fight, DC brought in the former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, who hasn’t fought in two years, to call him out for his next title defense as the king of the 265-pound division that will likely go down in January of 2019.

During a recent conversation with WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin, Cormier stated that he understands why Miocic would want a rematch for the strap but it’s not likely and that he feels if he can beat Lesnar come next year then it might put him in the lead as being considered one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all-time.

“Obviously he feels he deserves a rematch,” Cormier said on The Steve Austin Show recently (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “Again, for what he’s done in the sport, you would think that he would get a rematch but when there’s a fight like Lesnar on the horizon, you don’t turn your back. Honestly, Stipe has a lot of really loyal fans, but you can’t think for a second that if he would have won that fight, he wouldn’t have wanted or taken that Lesnar fight. It’s the biggest fight in the sport outside of fighting Conor McGregor and he fights at 155 pounds. So yeah, I’m gonna fight Brock.”

“Brock’s a big, bad, tough boy,” Cormier said. “A former UFC champ. Obviously he’s the WWE champion. Just a massive guy with a lot of fighting ability. I’ve known Brock a long, long time and I’m excited to compete against him. And really, not to compete against him, I want to put it on him because when you beat a guy like Brock Lesnar – if I beat the most dominant heavyweight champ of all time and then couple that with a fight over Brock, they may call me one of the great heavyweights of all time.”

“It’ll be tough but it’s always tough,” Cormier said. “It’s well-documented how difficult it is for me every time I go to 205. This will be nothing new. The next time I have a light heavyweight fight, I’ll go down there, I’ll make the weight, and I’ll fight. . . I do want to keep this belt. I don’t want to have to give it up because the UFC doesn’t believe I can make the weight. I can make the weight.”

For years now, fight fans have felt like Anderson Silva and Jon Jones are the GOATS but DC has gone on record by stating in the past that Silva and Jones shouldn’t be added to the conversation as GOATS despite their accomplishments inside of the Octagon under the UFC banner as the point to DC’s argument was the fact that Silva and Jones have failed drug tests in the past.

Daniel Cormier is one again fighting at heavyweight, where he was undefeated and won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. Now, the UFC light heavyweight champion will be taking on heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, and a big money fight with Brock Lesnar looms ahead for the winner.

Cormier gave his thoughts on a potential fight with Brock Lesnar during the UFC’s 25th Anniversary press conference (via MMA Fighting):

“That thing never happens unless I get past Stipe, but just hearing out loud was like, oh my goodness,” Cormier said. “Hey, I know that when I fight Jon Jones, I make a lot of money. I know that if I was to ever fight a Brock Lesnar, I’m going to make even more money than I’ve ever made in entire life. And ultimately, championships and money is why we do this. I don’t care for all the other stuff. I want to get paid. I’m almost 40, the door’s about to close on me, so why not ride out into the sunset with a massive payday? Truckloads of money. Back up Brinks truck to Gilroy, California if you fight Brock Lesnar, I’m telling you.”

“He told me last time, right? When that thing broke that he was fighting at UFC 200, I said, ‘Big Brock, is it Christmas morning in the Cormier household?’ He goes, ‘Merry Christmas, DC. You’re welcome.’ That’s what he told me. He knows that the money’s coming. When he’s on your card or if you’re fighting against him, he knows that you’re getting paid.”

Cormier most recently defeated surging prospect Volkan Oezdemir with second-round strikes after repeatedly taking down the striker and battering him on the feet. It was a dominant performance from Cormier and coupled with Miocic’s own impressive win over Francis Ngannou on that same card, the super fight between the two became a reality.

Meanwhile, former UFC heavyweight champion Lesnar has bounced back between WWE and the UFC, most recently beating Mark Hunt at UFC 200 before the result was overturned to a no-contest following a failed USADA tests by Lesnar.

Lately, talk has picked up over his return to the Octagon, with the specific intent of getting him in there with the winner of Cormier Vs. Miocic, which takes places at UFC 226 on July 7.

If Cormier were indeed to beat Miocic, how would a fight with Lesnar look for the light heavyweight champion?
