In today’s mixed martial arts landscape, Conor McGregor is thought to be not only the biggest star in the UFC, but also the highest paid fighter on the roster. Malki Kawa, however, isn’t so sure about that.

Kawa, who manages light heavyweight king Jon Jones, recently told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that “Bones” is the ‘highest paid guy in the UFC’:

“A lot, he will make a lot. He makes a lot already as it is. People see all that stuff that gets reported on the internet,” Kawa said. “I’ve been telling you guys for a long time, Jon is the highest paid guy in the UFC, aside from pay-per-view, just on the base guarantees, and I guess people never really believe, so I just let you guys believe what you want to. The pay-per-view (PPV) stuff is just extra.”

Jones recently returned in the main event of UFC 214 this past weekend (July 29, 2017), scoring an impressive TKO victory over Daniel Cormier to reclaim the 205-pound title. After the event, it was reported that Jones’ purse was $500,000, and while Kawa wouldn’t go into great detail, he said that Jones will likely make more depending on the pay-per-view (PPV) sales:

“Listen, I’m not going to get into all of that. I’m just letting you guys know that he is definitely up there, top two or three. Take that and run with it.”

“I don’t necessarily need to put his business out like that. He doesn’t necessarily like that. Just put it like this, he makes good money and he will be making more money and if the pay-per-view does well he will make even more money. So, you can’t beat any of that.”

UFC President Dana White had said that the event was trending in the direction of 1,000,000 buys, which would certainly make it the most successful pay-per-view of the year thus far.

Do you agree with Kawa’s comments regarding Jones’ pay and status as a draw in the UFC?

Jon Jones Calls Stipe Miocic Bout ‘Not A Real Super Fight’

A move up to heavyweight has always seemed inevitable for Jon Jones, but it may be coming sooner rather than later. A move up to heavyweight has always seemed inevitable for Jon Jones, but it may be coming sooner rather than later.

Jones returned to action in the main event of UFC 214 this past weekend (July 29, 2017), reclaiming his light heavyweight title with a third round TKO victory over Daniel Cormier. After the victory, Jones called out former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, who also appears to be interested in the bout.

The 205-pound champion doesn’t, however, seem to be too interested in a bout with current heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic:

“I feel like if I was going to take a fight at heavyweight, it would be against a person who me and my coaches feel would be a perfect matchup for me,” Jones said (as transcribed by MMA Mania).

“Right now, Stipe is looking extremely impressive. And I believe if you get an extremely talented big guy versus an extremely talented little guy, I mean, a lot of the cards are in his favor. At the same time, I fear no man. I strike for a reason when I strike.”

Continuing on, Jones said that a bout with Miocic ‘wouldn’t even be a real super-fight’:

“I feel like Stipe is relatively unknown to the general public. It wouldn’t even be a real super-fight in my opinion. I think a lot of MMA fans would be super excited about, but the general public wouldn’t care about that fight,” he explained. “Most people don’t really know who is, with all due respect to him.

“So, if I’m going to sacrifice being the smaller guy, I think stylistically Brock would be a fight that makes way more sense, and the payday would be tremendous. What it would do for our sport would be tremendous. Much bigger impact. So, for many reasons, a Brock Lesnar fight just makes much more sense to me.”

‘Big’ John Reacts To Daniel Cormier’s Apology For UFC 214 Behavior

Despite the fact that he had absorbed a barrage of big shots without intelligently defending himself, Daniel Cormier protested referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy’s decision to stop his UFC 214 main event bout with Jon Jones this past weekend (July 29, 2017) in Anaheim, California.

Cormier then released a statement yesterday, apologizing for his actions and giving full credit to McCarthy for being one of the very best referees in mixed martial arts.

It looks as if ‘Big’ John has gotten wind of “DC’s” apology, and he took to his official Twitter account to respond:

At 38 years of age, Cormier’s fighting future is currently unclear. He’s without question one of the best fighters in the world, but after suffering two losses to Jones, another run at light heavyweight gold seems rather unlikely.

Where would you like to see Cormier go from here?

Joe Rogan Reacts To ‘Surreal’ UFC 214 Interview With Daniel Cormier

Daniel Cormier was clearly in a foggy state of mind after suffering a third round TKO loss to Jon Jones in the main event of last night’s (July 29, 2017) UFC 214 from Anaheim, California, but he was interview by  UFC commentator Joe Rogan after the bout nonetheless.

During the interview, Rogan made it clear that he wasn’t a fan of interviewing fighters just minutes after they have suffered a stoppage loss:

“I don’t think it’s a good idea to interview fighters after they’ve been knocked out, but I really wanted to give you a chance to express yourself,” Rogan said in the Octagon.

Today, Rogan took to his official Twitter account to admit that he made a mistake in interviewing Cormier. He also took full responsibility for the situation:

What do you make of the situation? Should Rogan have interviewed Cormier?

Heading into last night (July 29, 2017), UFC 214 was being billed as the biggest mixed martial arts card of the year, and it certainly lived up to the expectations that had been set for it.

In the main event of the evening, Jon Jones made a triumphant return to action to reclaim the light heavyweight title he had never technically lost with a brutal third-round stoppage victory over bitter rival Daniel Cormier.

The co-main event of the evening featured a welterweight title fight between champion Tyron Woodley and jiu-jitsu ace Demian Maia, and while the fans weren’t all too pleased with the bout, Woodley retained his title via unanimous decision. Also on the main card, Cris Cyborg stopped Tonya Evinger in the third round of their featherweight title fight.

With the event now in the rearview mirror, let’s take a look ahead at five fights to make after UFC 214:

Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson II

Prior to his rematch with Cormier, Jones had only competed once over the last two-and-a-half years due to a plethora of legal and personal issues. It now appears as if those issues are behind him, however, and with the victory over Cormier, Jones can once again trek forward as the UFC light heavyweight champion.

While “Bones” has come dangerously close to cleaning out the 205-pound division, he does indeed still have some unfinished business with No. 2-ranked Alexander Gustafsson, and there’s no better time than now to book the rematch between the two.

Jones and Gustafsson first met at UFC 165 in Sept. 2013 and the bout turned out to be the very best light heavyweight title fight in UFC history. “The Mauler” pushed Jones to his limits, and some still feel as if Gustafsson should’ve been named the victor.

Gustafsson has scored back-to-back victories over Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira, and in the shallow light heavyweight division, he is undoubtedly the rightful No. 1-contender.

It’s time to settle the score.

Alexander Gustafsson Calls Out Jon Jones After UFC 214

Legal and personal issues have kept him out of the Octagon for the majority of the past two years, but Jon Jones finally made his return to action in the main event of last night’s (July 29, 2017) UFC 214 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and it was a triumphant return to say […]

Legal and personal issues have kept him out of the Octagon for the majority of the past two years, but Jon Jones finally made his return to action in the main event of last night’s (July 29, 2017) UFC 214 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and it was a triumphant return to say the least.

Taking on bitter rival Daniel Cormier in a highly anticipated and long awaited rematch, Jones actually ate some big shots over the course of the first two rounds, but he eventually closed the show in the third, landing a brutal head kick and finishing “DC” with a flurry of follow-up strikes.

With the belt now once again strapped around his waist, Jones seems to have options awaiting him. One option could be a super fight with former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, which Jones called for in his post-fight interview last night, but another rematch at light heavyweight could be a possibility as well.

In fact, No. 1-ranked Alexander Gustafsson called out Jones on Twitter last night after the event:

Jones and Gustafsson first met at UFC 165 in Sept. 2013 in a bout that turned out to be a five round instant classic. Many still feel as if “The Mauler” did enough to score a victory that night, and it’s a certainly a story that needs closure.

Would you like to see Jones and Gustafsson run it back?
