UFC 214 will take place tonight (July 29, 2017) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Anaheim, California, and the main event will feature arguably the biggest fight in the history of mixed martial arts, as light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and ex-titleholder Jon Jones will finally rematch after years of bad blood. Despite the magnitude of the main event, it isn’t the only pivotal light heavyweight match-up on the card.

In fact, the main card will be opened by a bout between No. 3-ranked Jimi Manuwa and No. 5-ranked Volkan Oezdemir, with the winner potentially earning a shot at the winner of Cormier vs. Jones.

Manuwa actually recently spoke with BloodyElbow.com about the main event of UFC 214, and he feels as if the bout ‘depends on which Jon Jones turns up’:

“I don’t know how Cormier is gonna do against him,” Manuwa said. “It depends on which Jon Jones turns up. Whether or not he was on drugs before, or if he’s not now or whatever, no one really knows. Only he and USADA know. I’m not here to put anyone down. Jon Jones is the greatest fighter probably to ever step foot into the Octagon, so you’ve got to give him his respect there.”

“It’s all about fighting, it’s not a personality contest. It’s not about seeing who’s got the best morals or whatever. Obviously, as a champion in the public eye, you’ve got to keep a certain standard of integrity, but ultimately, it all comes back to fighting.”

Cormier and Jones first fought at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015 in a fight in which Jones won via a one-sided unanimous decision. Over the last two years, however, he has only competed once due to a plethora of legal and personal issues that he’s run into.

Despite the layoff, Jones is the favorite heading into his rematch with Cormier, and Manuwa feels as if “Bones” can beat the former Olympian ‘ten out of ten times’. “Posterboy” also feels as if Cormier can only win the fight by taking the action to the ground:

“I believe Jones can beat Cormier eight out of ten times—even ten out of ten times,” he said. “I think Jon Jones has got his number, he really has. The only way Cormier can beat Jones is to take him down and grind him. He’s not going to knock him out because he’s unable to strike with him because Jones is too good a striker and too good at using his length and range.”

“Cormier is not a striker, he’s a messy stand-up fighter. He has to close the distance and try to take him down, but he couldn’t do it in the first fight, and I don’t believe he can do it now. Cormier hasn’t knocked someone out in—I can’t even remember the last time he knocked someone out.”

If Manuwa’s theory is correct, Cormier may be in trouble, as Jones actually out wrestled him in their first meeting.

How do you expect the fight to play out tonight?

Jon Jones’ Brother Explains Altercation With Team Cormier

There’s no love lost between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, but it seems as if the bad blood has trickled down to exist between their respective teams as well.

In fact, Jones’ older brother Arthur, an NFL player and 2012 Super Bowl champion, explained to MMAFighting.com an altercation that took place between him and Team Cormier yesterday (July 28, 2017) morning:

“They were like, ‘The real champ’ and all this other bullshit,” Arthur Jones said. “After a while, I got annoyed. I was like, ‘Yeah, the paper champ.’ We started jawing back and forth. They just walked away. It really wasn’t nothing. People try to make a big thing out of nothing.”

While the elder Jones brother said the run-in ultimately turned out to be nothing, he also claimed that he would’ve ‘ragdolled’ all six members of Cormier’s team:

“I would have ragdolled all six of them — for the record,” he said.

He even went as far to say that he would’ve ‘slapped’ Cormier too if the light heavyweight champion was present:

“I’ll slap his ass, too,” Jones said.

At the end of the day, the situation didn’t boil over, but Jones’ brother hasn’t been pleased with some of the things Cormier has said about his younger brother in the past:

“He called my brother a junkie and ‘sandblasting prostitutes,’” Arthur said. “My brother has daughters. One day, they’re gonna have to watch this shit on YouTube and I don’t appreciate it. My brother never disrespected his family, so don’t disrespect my brother’s family.”

Cormier and Jones met for a first time at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015, with Jones successfully defending his then held light heavyweight title via unanimous decision. The duo will finally rematch in the main event of UFC 214 tonight live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Anaheim, California.

Jon Jones Says Cormier Is ‘F*cking With A Guy Who’s In His Prime’

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have never been the best of friends. The two possess one of the deepest rivalries in the history of mixed martial arts, and they’ll attempt to settle the score when they finally rematch in the main event of UFC 214 this weekend (July 29, 2017) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from […]

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have never been the best of friends.

The two possess one of the deepest rivalries in the history of mixed martial arts, and they’ll attempt to settle the score when they finally rematch in the main event of UFC 214 this weekend (July 29, 2017) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Despite the bad blood between the two, Jones recently said that Cormier’s a ‘f*cking great guy’, although he feels as if “DC” is competing in his era:

“It’s weird when it comes to me and Daniel,” Jones told MMAFighting after the UFC 214 open workouts yesterday. “At the end of the day, I see who he is. I think he’s a f*cking great guy. You guys are all in the reporting business, you guys get to see him a lot more than I see him. He’s funny, he has good friends and shit. He’s a f*ckin’ good dude. I want the best for him, I really do. I wish he was just man enough to realize that he’s f*cking around with the wrong era. He just so happened to come into the sport, he’s 39 years old and he’s f*cking with a guy who’s in his prime. That guy who honestly believes that it’s his era and does everything in his power to make sure it’s his era.”

Ahead of their highly anticipated rematch, Jones simply wants Cormier to accept that he’s the ‘baddest mother f*cker outside of Jon Jones’, rather than put the focus on Jones’ trouble past:

“If he could just swallow that,” Jones said, “and say, ‘You know what, I’m the baddest mother f*cker outside of Jon Jones, then I can go to sleep at night. Because I’m still a bad mother f*cker.’ Instead of embracing that, he’s coming up with all these reasons why he lost. And then on top of that he comes up with all this stuff that has nothing to do with the fight, trying to keep people focusing on my past. it’s just silly.”

What do you make of Jones’ comments, and how do you expect the rematch to play out?

We are now just one day away from the biggest UFC fight card of the year thus far, as UFC 214 is set to take place this Saturday night (July 29, 2017) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The card will feature a staggering three title fights, with the main event playing host to the long-awaited and highly anticipated rematch between light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and longtime former divisional ruler Jon Jones. In the co-main event, welterweight king Tyron Woodley will defend his title against grappling guru Demian Maia. Finally, Cris Cyborg and Tonya Evinger will also do battle for the vacant women’s featherweight title in an unprecedented third title fight on the card.

That’s not all for the main card, however, as fan favorites Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone will face off at welterweight, while light heavyweight contenders Jimi Manuwa and Volkan Oezdemir will also do battle. Both fights hold major title implications in their respective divisions.

Without further ado, let’s take a deeper look into the card we’ve all been waiting for:

Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones possess one of the deepest rivalries in the history of the sport, but when they first met at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015, Jones scored a one-sided decision victory.

Since then, due to Jones’ legal and personal issues, Cormier has claimed the undisputed title, won four straight bouts, and successfully defended that title twice. Sure, Jones has only competed once since his initial meeting with “DC”, but it’s also true that Cormier has only gotten older in that time, while Jones still sits in the prime of his career at age 30.

At the end of the day, this bout will feature the two best light heavyweights on the planet facing off, but in my opinion, Jones is simply the best 205-pounder in the world, and arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world period.

At UFC 182, Jones was superior to Cormier in every aspect of fighting. He out-struck Cormier on the feet, while doing great damage to his body. He was more successful in the clinch, and he even out-wrestled the former Olympian.

I expect a similar fight this time around.

Daniel Cormier’s Nutritionist Says ‘DC’ Has ‘Abs’ Right Now

A former heavyweight, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has always struggled a bit to make the 205-pound limit of the division he currently rules, and ahead of his UFC 210 defense against Anthony Johnson, Cormier initially weighed in over the limit at 206.2 pounds. Just minutes later, he did, however, make weight, although many have criticized him for leaning on a towel in order to do so.

Now, “DC” is gearing up for the biggest fight of his life, as he’ll finally get the chance to rematch bitter rival Jon Jones in the main event of this weekend’s (Sat., July 29, 2017) UFC 214 from Anaheim, California. As far as his weight cut goes for this fight, Cormier’s nutritionist, Tyler Minton, said the champion is ‘really lean right now’:

“He’s really lean right now,” Minton told MMAFighting.com. “He really is. He’s got abs showing. He’s a lean guy right now. He looks amazing. Daniel Cormier has a lot of muscle mass — he’s a muscular dude. He’s a stud athlete. You remove mixed martial arts, he’s just an athlete.”

Minton also said that fighting a rival like Jon Jones has probably helped “DC” make his weight cut an easier process:

“DC admitted he probably didn’t take Rumble as seriously as he’s taking Jon Jones,” Minton said. “So there might have been those opportunities where he didn’t have to be as serious and he kind of took them. But this time, he eats, sleeps and breathes beating Jon Jones. The opportunity to succeed every chance he gets is there. It’s easier to not grab that snack when I’m not looking when Jon Jones is waiting for you.

“I think that knowing that your arch-nemesis is who you have to face, I think that gives you a motivation that nothing else can give you.”

With the fight being in California, Cormier has had to pass weight checks 30 days out and 10 days out from the fight, and he has passed both. According to Minton, those numbers were hit without doing ‘anything crazy’:

“We hit the numbers we needed to hit for the 30-day out,” Minton said. “We hit those just through diet. We didn’t have to do anything crazy. So yeah, he started a bit lighter and it’s made the whole camp easy. Because instead of focusing on cutting weight for six weeks, we fed him like an athlete. I tell people all the time, you don’t feed a supermodel and an athlete the same way. We’ve been able to feed him like a 205-pound world champion.”

Do you expect Cormier to be in peak form on Saturday night?

Dana White Comments On Potential Jon Jones vs. Brock Lesnar Fight

Former longtime UFC light heavyweight champion and former pound-for-pound king Jon “Bones” Jones will finally make his long awaited return to action in the main event of this weekend’s (July 29, 2017) UFC 214 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as he’s set to rematch bitter rival and current champion Daniel Cormier. Despite Cormier […]

Despite Cormier vs. Jones being the biggest bout of the year, rumors have begun to swirl regarding Jones’ future inside the Octagon, and one possibility that has been brought to the table surrounds a potential clash between Jones and former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

Jones commented on the situation earlier this week during a Facebook live chat:

“I would love to fight Brock Lesnar,” he said. “He’s a massive dude, it would be a massive draw, really big for the sport. It would be a great challenge. That’s a big old boy. I doubt Brock Lesnar would take that fight, though. I definitely wouldn’t try to wrestle with him the whole time. I can’t tell you what I would do.”

Lesnar, who hasn’t competed since UFC 200, and is currently serving out a USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) suspension, then reacted to Jones’ comments, and shared the same interest in the potential bout:

“Would I fight Jon Jones? Anytime, anywhere,” Lesnar told the AP. “Right now he should be worried about D.C. on Saturday night.”

Despite the interest from both fighters, however, UFC President Dana White says that he hasn’t spoken with Lesnar:

“I haven’t talked to Brock Lesnar,” White said at the UFC 214 pre-fight press conference earlier today. “I don’t know. Sounds like nobody believes me, but it’s true. I have not talked to Brock Lesnar.”

Jones then responded:

“I’ll deal with Daniel, then I’ll deal with Brock Lesnar,” he said.

What do you make of the situation?
