Following his dominant victory against Ange Loosa at UFC Vegas 51, Mournir Lazzez thanked Daniel Kinahan, an alleged Irish gang boss and boxing promoter.
Immediately after his initial Octagon interview, Lazezz pulled the microphone away from Daniel Cormier to shout out some people.
“I would love to thank my coaches and my brother Daniel Kinahan,” Lazzez said in a post-fight interview on the ESPN broadcast. “Without him, I would never be the man who I am today and my career at this point. Thanks a lot.”
There is an enormous amount of controversy circling Daniel Kinahan, who outside of being the founder of boxing management company MTK Global is a wanted criminal with serious allegations against him.
The High Court of Ireland has classified Kinahan as a major influence in organized crime on a global scale.
The Irishman is accused of involvement in drug trafficking, money laundering, and an alleged gang war in Dublin and Spain that has taken 18 lives. In addition, Kinahan allegedly ran one of the largest cartels in the world.
Kinahan was sanctioned along with his father and brother, and others, by the US Treasury earlier in the month. Officials announced they are offering a $5million reward for information that will lead to their arrests.
According to Lazzez, he was completely unaware of the allegations against the Kinahan, who also managed Boxing champion, Tyson Fury.
“I think I’m here to entertain people,” Lazzez said. “I give the credit to whoever deserves credit. I’m not involved on stuff. I don’t know about it and I will investigate how it is.” (h/t New York Post)
The Tunisian fighter also claims to meet with Kinahan for advice and considers him a friend. His praises for the wanted ganglord could bring some unwanted attention to himself and the UFC.

Ahead of his WBC heavyweight championship title defense this weekend at Wembley against Dillian Whyte, Tyson Fury has discussed his links to the recently sanctioned, reputed cartel boss, Daniel Kinahan – insisting that any relationship between the two is nobody else’s business.
Fury, a client of management firm, MTK Global – which was co-founded by Daniel Kinahan back in 2012, was pictured with the alleged Kinahan Organized Crime Group leader (KOCG) as recently as February during a visit to Dubai.
Sanctions were imposed against Daniel Kinahan last week by the US Department of the Treasury
Kinahan, a native of Dublin, along with his father, Christopher Kinahan, and brother, Christopher Kinahan Jr. – were recently hit with sanctions by the United States Department of the Treasury, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control – with a bounty of up to $5,000,000 placed on each member, for information leading to the transitional crime organization’s financial disruption or the arrest and conviction of it’s leading members. Daniel Kinahan was previously named as the controller and manager of the Kinahan Organized Crime Group by the High Court.
Fielding questions on his links and relationship with Kinahan for the first time since the latter’s sanctioning, during a media day at an open workout, Fury, the reigning WBC heavyweight champion claimed that any relationship he had with Kinahan was his own business.
I’ve said this to quite a few people this week,” Tyson Fury told assembled media. “I don’t get involved in other people’s businesses and I keep mine to myself and that’s it. What other people do in their lives, I’ve got my own troubles and my own problems to work on myself with a wife and six kids. I keep my business to myself.”
Fury insisted that Kinahan was a fan of boxing, claimed that he was just a “stupid boxer” himself, and maintained that his business was strictly his own.
“The man has been a boxing fan,” Tyson Fury said. “There is not much more I can say. There is not much more of a relationship. There is none. That’s none of your business and none of anybody else’s business I think is it? My business is my business, your business is yours, and that’s it. It’s got nothing to do with me in boxing. I’m just a stupid boxer who gets punched in the face for a living. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be here would I?” (Transcribed by RTÉ)
Last week, Top Rank promoter, Bob Arum confirmed that consultancy fees in the region of $4,000,000 had been paid to Daniel Kinahan following recent bouts contested by Fury.
“I would like to thank my coaches, and my brother, Daniel Kinahan,” Mounir Lazzez said. “I would never be the man I am today, and to – my career to this point. Thanks a lot.”
During his post-fight media scrum, Lazzez insisted that he was unaware of sanctions imposed against Kinahan earlier that week, and refused to elaborate on further questioning, however, labelled Kinahan as a “friend” and “brother” of his.
“That man is a friend and advisor,” Mounir Lazzez said of Daniel Kinahan. “He’s the one who picked me up every time life had kicked me down. He is a real man of his word. He’s the one who taught me what it means to be real family, a real friend. It’s someone I cannot thank enough for where I am today and who I am today… That’s why I said that, all the shout out and credit to him.”

UFC welterweight and MTK Global signed, Mounir Lazzez issued a shoutout to reputed Kinahan Organized Crime Group leader, Daniel Kinahan following his unanimous decision win over Ange Loosa at UFC Vegas 51 last night, describing him as a “friend” and “brother”, as well as maintaining that his career would not have reached such heights as the UFC without the help and guidance of Kinahan.
Daniel Kinahan has been described as an “advisor” to many MTK Global signed combatants
Daniel Kinahan, who along with Irish professional boxer, Matthew Macklin founded management firm, MTK Global back in 2012, is said to have seen ties with the management agency cut, however, it is still believed he is playing an active role behind the scene as an advisor to some clients.
Among MTK Global clients are WBC heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury – with boxing promoter, Bob Arum confirmed earlier this week that Kinahan had been paid in the region of $4,000,000 in consultancy fees in Fury’s recent bouts.
Off the back of his victory against Loosa last night at the UFC Apex facility, Lazzez issued a shoutout to Kinahan, thanking him as well as his coaches – with the event broadcasted across North America on ESPN. Lazzez’s comments on Daniel Kinahan have since been cut from his post-fight interview which has been uploaded on the official UFC YouTube channel.
“I would like to thank my coaches, and my brother, Daniel Kinahan,” Mounir Lazzez said. “I would never be the man I am today, and to – my career to this point. Thanks a lot.”
During his media scrum with assembled reporters after the fight, Lazzez fielded questions from Insider reporter, Al Dawson, who asked several questions regarding his decision to shout out Kinahan – with Lazzez maintaining he was unaware of sanctions imposed against Kinahan.
When asked what he had meant when claiming he wouldn’t be where he is today without the support of Kinahan, Lazzez once more backed up his comments that Kinahan was a “friend” and “advisor”.
“That man (Daniel Kinahan) is a friend and advisor,” Mounir Lazzez said. “He’s the one who picked me up every time life had kicked me down. He is a real man of his word. He’s the one who taught me what it means to be real family, a real friend. It’s someone I cannot thank enough for where I am today and who I am today… That’s why I said that, all the shout-out and credit to him.”
When asked if he was aware of sanctions imposed against Kinahan earlier this week, Lazzez replied, “No, I don’t know that.”
After he was informed of the sanctions brought against Kinahan, Lazzez explained how he was not involved in, and how he would “investigate” it himself.
“I think I’m here to entertain people,” Mounir Lazzez said. “I give the credit to whoever deserves credit. I’m not involved in this kind of stuff. I don’t know about it, and I will investigate how it is.”
Lazzez further explained how Kinahan had been offering him “advice” throughout his career, when asked how he felt about legitimizing a reputed cartel leader in combat sports through his shout out.
“No,” Mounir Lazzez said. “For me, it’s a simple thing, a friend outside the gym. I meet him for advice and he helped me throughout my career.”
Lazzez then insisted that he was not aware of sanctions brought against Kinahan, his father, and his brother – maintaining that he was just here to “entertain”.
“I don’t follow this kind of news,” Mounir Lazzez said. “I focus on the sport, I focus on my family. I focus and entertain people that’s the most important.”

UFC middleweight contender, Darren Till has recently shared a picture of himself alongside reputed Irish cartel leader, Daniel Kinahan, after a walk on the beach, describing the Dubliner as a “good pal” of his.
Till, who is currently training in Dubai amid his most recent Octagon appearance which came in the form of a third-round rear-naked choke loss to Derek Brunson in September, shared a snap alongside Kinahan, with the two smiling following a walk on a Dubai beach.
“Good stroll on the beach tonight in Dubai with one of me good pals,” Darren Till tweeted with a picture alongside Kinahan. “Daniel Kinahan is advising Eddie Hearn & Al Haymon is advising Leonard Ellerbe for Eddie Hearn & Leonard Ellerbe to fight. Wow!! Good luck Eddie I’m rooting for u son, @EddieHearn @LeonardEllerbe.”
Who Is Darren Till’s “Good Pal” Daniel Kinahan?
Kinahan, 44, has been named as a senior figure in organised crime in the High Court of Ireland and is the reputed leader of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group, which specialises in drug and arms smuggling into Ireland, mainland Europe, and the United Kingdom.
The Kinahan Cartel or Organised Crime Group has been involved in a lengthy, ongoing feud with another Irish criminal organization, the Hutch gang, which has resulted in 18 deaths since September 2015 and more than 60 reported arrests.
The feud began in 2015 when Gary Hutch was murdered in Marbella, Spain, with An Garda Siochana seizing a reported 456 firearms, €64 million worth of drugs and a further €2.2 million in cash.
Kinahan was the target of a failed assassination attempt back in 2016 at a boxing weigh-in event at the Regency Hotel in Whitehall county, Dublin, which resulted in the murder of David Byrne. It is believed the attack was to carry out revenge for the murder of Hutch, with Kinahan the intended target.
In 2012, Kinahan, along with Irish boxer, Matthew Macklin founded MTK Global, before the organization reportedly cut ties with Kinahan in February 2017. Kinahan was, however, credited by WBC heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury for brokering a two-fight deal for a proposed fight with Anthony Joshua back in 2020.
MTK Global currently represent a slew of professional mixed martial arts fighters including the aforenoted UFC middleweight, Till since December 2017, as well as other UFC fighters including Aleksandar Rakic, Taila Santos, Mounir Lazzezz, Sumudarji, and Josiane Nunes to name a few.
Despite confirming they had cut ties with Kinahan back in 2017, the organization have admitted that the Dubliner still provides “personal advice” and “advisory services” to fighters under the organization’s banner, as well as other “world boxing management companies” scrutiny.
“It is true that Mr. (Daniel) Kinahan provides some personal advice to a number of boxers managed by MTK Global and we are instructed that Mr. Kinahan also provides services to boxers who are managed by other worldwide boxing management companies too.”
In March of last year, Liverpool native, Till, and Kinahan, were also pictured alongside MTK Global’s Bahrain Brand Ambassador, Mohamed Bin Mansoor Al Arayedh in Dubai, UAE.
