Darren Till

Darren Till will not be cornering Chris Curtis in his matchup this weekend against Jack Hermansson at UFC:Fight Night 208, at the O2 Arena in London.

Till was forced out of his long awaited comeback, in his hometown due to an injury. He tore his ACL when he fought Derek Brunson back in September of 2021. His ACL was damaged before the fight, causing his coaches and teammates to advise against him fighting.

Till started off his UFC career undefeated with a record of 5-0-1, which included some big wins over Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in their primes. The UFC saw his impressive wins alongside his excellent mic presence and ability to sell fights, and gifted him a title shot in just his sixth fight in the UFC. In hindsight, the shot may have came a little too quick, as he was severely outmatched against Tyron Woodley. After that loss, he would go on to lose three of his next four fights. He was even knocked out cold against Jorge Masvidal.

Although Darren Till was out of his match, he was still going to corner Chris Curtis in his matchup. He has since decided against it.

“I won’t be cornering Chris this weekend at UFC London, I feel it would be disrespectful to the whole situation after pulling out of the fight to then turn up to the corner of the fight. I wish Chris the best of luck he’s a proper guy & we trained together & he can do good things, I also wish Jack the best of luck may both men have a good fight. I also look forward to hearing what all the couch potato’s have to comment below this post I’ll be reading & laughing. To the people that messaged me saying keep my head up etc. it’s massively appreciated but the only problem right now is that my body is brittle through years of hard torment day in day out to the body.” Till tweeted out

Curtis looks to continue his fantastic year, as he looks to get his fourth win in just 9 months. He also tweeted out his thoughts on Till not cornering him this weekend.

Jack Hermansson ‘Anticipated’ Darren Till Pulling Out Of UFC London: ‘I Wasn’t Surprised’

Jack Hermansson, Darren Till

Jack Hermansson was not surprised to see Darren Till pull out of their scheduled bout.

Fan favorite Till was set to mark his return to competition against Hermansson on Saturday, Jul. 21 for UFC London at O2 Arena. However, “The Gorilla” was forced to withdraw from their planned outing due to a leg injury.

With Till being out, Chris Curtis stepped in as the replacement for the co-main event.

Jack Hermansson is not surprised at Darren Till’s withdrawal

During the UFC London media day, Jack Hermansson talked to the reporters about having to fight a new opponent. Given Till’s unfortunate history of pulling out of fights due to injuries, Hermansson was not surprised to see it happen again.

“I kind of anticipated it through the whole camp,” Hermansson said. “I don’t know why, I just had a bad feeling about it — maybe because the first time I wanted to fight him he declined the fight, second time he pulled from the fight, third time he didn’t even announce the fight himself.

“I couldn’t see any sign of him fighting, so I just had a bad feeling about it with me through the whole camp. To be honest, I wasn’t surprised.” (ht Mike Heck/MMA Fighting)

Hermansson has been in a similar position before

Hermansson was previously booked to face Till in the headlining bout of UFC Vegas 16 in Dec. 2020. Till ended up pulling out of the contest and Kevin Holland was matched up with “The Joker”. Then, Holland had a positive COVID-19 test and was also forced out of the bout. Hermansson was game still and accepted the fight with another replacement, Marvin Vettori, who would beat him by a decision.

While it’s not a preference, fighters have to be ready for anything in this crazy sport, and Hermansson understands that part of the game.

“It’s a big part of the MMA game. It happens all the time,” Hermansson said. “You just need to be ready for anything.

“Chris is a great opponent. He has a lot of experience, a lot of fights, a lot of wins, heavy hands, won all his fights in the UFC, eight-fight win streak. I think he’s as good as it gets. He’s one of those guys trying to climb into the rankings and he’s right up there. He’s a great opponent.”

Darren Till Defends Dana White Over $250,000 Gift To Nelk Boys: ‘It Really Isn’t Any Of Our Business’

UFC middleweight contender, Darren Till has jumped to the defence of promotional president, Dana White – after footage emerged of the controversial company figurehead gifting Nelk Boys member, Kyle Forgeard a birthday gift of $250,000 cash, amid the ongoing issue of fighter pay and revenue split in the organization.

Till, the current #9 ranked middleweight contender, previously challenged for undisputed welterweight gold against Tyron Woodley, suffering a second round D’Arce choke defeat.

Darren Till has jumped to the defence of UFC leader, Dana White

Sharing his thoughts on footage of White gifting Forgeard a cash gift of $250,000 for his birthday, Team Kaobon mainstay, Till claimed that it was none of anybody’s business what White did with his money, despite backlash and outcry from commentators and fellow fighters.

“I don’t know if it’s just me but seeing Dana (White) give his mate (Kyle Forgeard) a bag of readies (sic) for his bday isn’t really a problem or any of our business is it?” Darren Till tweeted. “Them Nelk guys he gave the money to always spend their money on Dana so he’s making sure they are ok aswell (sic). Friends look after friends.”

Till’s tweet regarding White’s birthday gift of $250,000 to Forgeard has since been deleted soon after its initial posting, and it also appears Till’s official, verified Twitter account has also been deactivated.

Slated to return to the Octagon next weekend in the co-headliner of UFC London, Till was forced to withdraw from the capital event after he suffered a knee injury setback, with surging division veteran, Chris Curtis replacing the Liverpool native in a high-stakes bout against Jack Hermansson

Off the back of footage of White gifting a cash sum to Forgeard, UFC flyweight alum, Louis Smolka called for fighters to unionize.

Current UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling also received argued for an increase in the revenue split between the organization and fighters – which has been reported to be as low as 16%, as well as maintaining how he would not sign a deal to fight T.J. Dillashaw without an increase in his fight purse and compensation from the UFC.

Till’s most recent Octagon appearance came back in September of last year in the main event of UFC Vegas 36, suffering a one-sided third round rear-naked choke defeat against Derek Brunson.
