Oleksandr Usyk

The heavyweight boxing king Oleksandr Usyk is now on top of the world after defeating Tyson Fury in May to add the WBC belt to his esteemed collection.

The fight with Fury was a brutal war. Things went back and forth, and both men suffered each other’s wrath. Things looked pretty close heading into the ninth round, where Usyk landed a knockdown on Fury that would later prove highly pivotal on the judges’ scorecards.

After the battle, Usyk held the WBC, IBF, WBA, and WBO belts and was truly on top of the heavyweight boxing world. Unfortunately, Oleksandr Usyk has since had to relinquish his IBF title, which Daniel Dubois now holds.

Dubois is also a former victim of the Ukrainian heavyweight phenom. The two fought back in 2023, and Usyk scored a beautiful knockout over his opponent.

Oleksandr Usyk opens up about which of his opponents hit the hardest

While speaking with the Three Knockdown Rule podcast, Usyk spoke on his many trials as a boxer. He told the hosts how the Tyson Fury fight was definitely his toughest so far, but did mention that Fury wasn’t the hardest hitter that he has ever faced. In fact, Derek Chisora holds that honor.

“Toughest fight?” Usyk said (H/T Seconds Out). “Yes, it was [Fury]. Biggest punch – no. Because Derek Chisora, very tough guy. [A punch landed] on the gloves, and I said: ‘Oh my God.’ Like a baseball bat.”

Oleksandr Usyk fought Chisora in 2020. It was just his second fight in the banner division after deciding to move up from cruiserweight. Usyk ultimately won via points, but he can probably still close his eyes and imagine Chisora’s fearsome power.

Were you surprised by Usyk’s answer, and do you think it would change if he fought somebody like a Deontay Wilder or Francis Ngannou?

Derek Chisora was caught on camera headbutting a Deliveroo driver during an altercation in London.

It’s unclear what caused the incident, but The Upshot on X shared a video clip, which you can see below, of the former two-time WBC heavyweight title challenger getting into it with a deliveryman before headbutting him to the ground.

For those unfamiliar, Deliveroo drivers are the UK’s version of DoorDash or Uber Eats. One commenter on the post suggested that the deliverer was riding his bike on the pavement where people were seated and eating, suggesting that could be the reason why Chisora took exception.

“It’s cos he’s cycling on the pavement where people are eating. One of my pretty hates. I had my meniscus torn by a delivering rider who hit me in the pavement.”

Of course, plenty of others used it as an opportunity to take a dig at Chisora’s boxing career, with one writing: “Chisora fighting nobodies, we’ll aren’t we shocked.”

Another added, “The new KFC Heavyweight Champion.”

Overall, he is 34-13 with 23 of his wins coming by way of knockout. At the regional level, Chisora has held multiple heavyweight titles, including the British and Commonwealth championships from 2010 to 2011, and the European title from 2013 to 2014.

Paul Butlin, a British former boxing standout who competed against the likes of Anthony Joshua and Derek Chisora, is going viral after engaging in a heated confrontation while working as a bailiff.

In a video clip shared by Michael Benson of talkSport, the angry cameraman rages at Butlin for doing his job by delivering a letter to him regarding an outstanding fine that he refuses to pay. Unaware of who he is talking to, the man threatens to “punch the f*ck” out of Butlin and tells him “I’ll absolutely f*cking annihilate you.”

Butlin remained calm for the majority of the clip and even replied to the repeated verbal threats saying, “I’m not here to fight you, I’m not a fighter mate.”

The clip has amassed more than a million views on YouTube and has since been re-uploaded on TikTok where it has been viewed thousands more times.

Paul Butlin Sustained ‘One of the worst cuts’ Eddie Hearn has ever seen against Anthony Joshua

When Paul Butlin fought Anthony Joshua in 2013, it was only the second pro fight of Joshua’s career. Still, it only took Joshua 50 seconds into round two to finish the fight, leaving Butlin with one of the worst cuts British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn had ever seen from a punch.

Butlin also went the distance with Derek Chisora on two separate occasions. Chisora came out on top in both bouts but was later fined and suspended following their second meeting in 2009 after instant replay revealed that he had bit Butlin on the ear during a clinch in the fifth round.

Butlin retired from the sport in 2016 after going 14-24 with three wins by way of knockout. Two years before his retirement, he defeated Shane McPhilbin via disqualification to win the vacant Midlands Area heavyweight title.

Derek Chisora calls for December fight with Ex-UFC Champion Francis Ngannou: ‘I’ll Knock Him Out’

Derek Chisora

Two-time WBC heavyweight title challenger Derek Chisora is ready to sign on the dotted line for a scrap with Francis Ngannou in December.

‘The Predator’ put on a stunning performance in his critically-acclaimed professional boxing debut, taking Tyson Fury to the limit and even knocking ‘The Gypsy King’ down with a vicious counter-left in the third-round of the showdown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Since then, every heavyweight boxer on the planet has been chomping at the bit to step inside the ring with the former UFC champion. That includes three-time Tyson Fury opponent Derek Chisora. In an interview with IFL TV, ‘Del Boy’ offered his take on Ngannou’s impressive performance on October 28, saying:

He’s amazing, he’s a great fighter, he’s a strong guy, he’s a great MMA fighter, he caught Tyson on a bad day and it happens.” Asked if he himself is interested in mixing it up with ‘The Predator’ in the squared circle, Chisora made it clear that he’ll fight anybody, including Ngannou. “I want everybody, I want Francis Ngannou yeah, I wanna get it” (h/t talkSPORT).

Derek Chisora Offers his prediction for potential fight with Francis Ngannou

Offering his prediction for their hypothetical pairing, Chisora is confident that he’ll be able to do what Tyson Fury could not. “It’ll be a great fight and I’ll knock him out,’” he said.

Derek Chisora made his pro debut in 2007, scoring 14 straight wins before taking his first loss in his inaugural meeting with Tyson Fury in July 2011. Chisora would proceed to lose three of his next four before going on a five-fight win streak and working his way back to a rematch with ‘The Gypsy King’ in November 2014. Chisora once again came up short, retiring at the conclusion of the 10th round.

Despite once again losing three out of four, Chisora landed a trilogy fight with Fury in December 2022. Emanating from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, Fury made easy work of Chisora, walking away with a TKO in the tenth. Chisora has since fought his way back into the win column with a unanimous decision over Gerald Washington in August.

A December fight with Francis Ngannou would give Chisora a fourth-month turnaround time since his last bout, a relatively short period in the world of professional boxing.

I’m ready to fight every day bro,” Chisora concluded.

Three-time Tyson Fury opponent Derek Chisora believes ‘The Gypsy King’ will hit the mat when he steps into the squared circle with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou this fall.

On October 28, Ngannou will make his professional boxing debut as he heads the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a showdown with the reigning WBC heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury. With ‘The Predator’ stepping in the ring for the very first time, many, including Chisora, expect him to fall short of having his hand raised in Riyadh. But that doesn’t mean he won’t put up a hell of a fight.

In an interview with Seconds Out, Derek Chisora suggested that Ngannou will drop Fury at least once during the matchup, but he ultimately believes that ‘The Gyspy King’ will leave with another big win on his record.

“Yes [I’ve been watching him train with Mike Tyson]. That’s a big fight,” Chisora said. “Tyson is going to win it but I think Tyson is going to get dropped by Ngannou.”

Derek Chisora is 0-3 Against Tyson Fury

Chisora has shared the squared circle with Tyson Fury on three separate occasions. Their first meeting in 2011 saw Fury score a unanimous decision over the Zimbabwean. Three years later, they ran it back with Chisora retiring at the conclusion of the tenth. Fast forward eight years later, the pair met once again in an unnecessary trilogy bout that saw Chisora once again fall, this time by way of a 10th-round TKO.

Fury has not stepped between the ropes since then their third meeting, but all signs pointed toward ‘The Gypsy King’ facing Oleksandr Usyk in a heavyweight title unification clash this year. Sadly, the two parties were unable to come to terms, leading Fury to sign on the dotted line for a fight with Francis Ngannou whilst Usyk scored a ninth-round knockout against Daniel Dubois in Poland last month.

Recent reports suggest that the pair are once again in negotiations to deliver the long-awaited showdown in 2024, but first, Tyson Fury will have to get past one of the heaviest hitters in mixed martial arts history.

Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion and recent PFL (Professional Fighters League) singing, Francis Ngannou has been backed to make a potential professional boxing debut on a planned December pay-per-view event in Saudi Arabia – in a discussed pairing with former championship challenger, Derek Chisora, according to rumors heard by Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn.

Francis Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from combat sports competition since he headlined UFC 270 back in January of last year, successfully unifying the heavyweight titles in a unanimous decision win over Ciryl Gane in Anaheim, California.

And penning terms on a multi-fight deal with the Peter Murray-led PFL earlier this year ahead of an expected return to professional mixed martial arts competition next year, Francis Ngannou has been tipped to make a professional boxing debut first and foremost later this annum.

Francis Ngannou linked with boxing debut against Derek Chisora in December

Continually linked with a fight against the likes of current WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, as well as a pairing with former world champion, Anthony Joshua – according to Hearn, rumors suggest the Cameroonian could now be lined up to fight former two-time WBC gold chaser, Chisora in the Middle East at the end of this year.

“There are rumors for a third fight for that night in December which could be (Francis) Ngannou against (Derek) Chisora,” Eddie Hearn told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “I actually quite like that fight because I don’t see Francis being competitive against Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua, but more competitive against Chisora.”

“What Francis wants to do is land a massive payday,” Hearn explained. “The only difference in the heavyweight world is Francis can really punch. Listen, if he lands one on Fury, if he lands one on AJ, or lands one on Chisora, he can win the fight. You need a site fee for a fight like that. I don’t know what Francis wants, but you’re talking about tens of millions of dollars for these fights, and it may just not be there.” (Transcribed by TalkSPORT)
