Jailton Almeida betting favorite to beat Derrick Lewis at UFC Sao Paulo this weekend

Surging heavyweight grappling talent, Jailton Almeida is closing as a significant betting favorite to land a victory over former interim and undisputed heavyweight title challenger, Derrick Lewis, ahead of this weekend’s reworked UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo main event clash in Brazil.

Almeida, the current number nine ranked heavyweight contender and a product of Dana White’s Contender Series draws former title challenger, Lewis in a reworked pairing, after initial opponent, would-be common-foe, Curtis Blaydes suffered an injury whilst preparing for the clash.

As for Lewis, the fan-favorite promotional and heavyweight division knockout king turned in his first victory in three fights earlier this year on the main card of UFC 291 in July, dropping and stopping Jailton Almeida’s compatriot, Marcos Rogerio de Lima with a stunning flying-knee and follow-up strikes knockout in Salt Lake City, Utah.

And set to take main event honors for the second bout running, Bahia native, Almeida is closing as high as a -450 betting favorite on many markers to defeat Lewis – with the former championship challenger sat as an underdog as high as +333.

Many markets and bookies – offering free spins no deposit betting, are also still taking bets and wagers on this weekend’s UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo return, including a massive heavyweight fight between Almeida and Lewis.

5-0 since his move from the Contender Series back in 2021, the above-mentioned submission threat, Almeida makes his sophomore main event clash at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo this weekend in South America, following a stunning first round rear-naked choke submission win over Suriname kickboxer, Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Fight Night Charlotte back in May – earning a Performance of the Night bonus.

Back in Janaury of this year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Almeida stopped common-foe, Shamil Abdurakhimov with a one-sided knockout win via second round ground strikes. With his win over the above-mentioned, Rozenstruik, Almeida improved to 19-2 as a professional to boot.

Previously challenging for both undisputed and interim heavyweight gold against Daniel Cormier, and Ciryl Gane, respectively during his lengthy Octagon run, Lewis holds a stunning 22 separate career knockout victories.

Over the course of his storied run in the heavyweight division, Lewis, 38, landed stunning wins over the likes of Gabriel Gonzaga, Travis Browne, Alexander Volkov, Curtis Blaydes, and Chris Daukaus – before his July knockout of de Lima extended his knockout record in the entire UFC to 14 stoppages via strikes.

Furthermore, Lewis became the first fighter in the Octagon to land a victory over eventual undisputed UFC heavyweight champion and recent professional boxing debutante, Francis Ngannou, albeit in a hugely forgettable monstrous heavyweight clash back in 2018.

Yet to go the distance over the course of his winning run, Almeida has landed a whopping 12 separate submission wins, to go with a further seven victories by way of knockout or technical knockout.

In each of his five triumphs inside the Octagon to boot, Almeida, who closed as a betting underdog in his Contender Series win – has closed as a betting favorite in each of his wins under the UFC banner.

However, in the time since, Diaz has stressed his interest in a return to fighting under the UFC banner, even going as far as suggesting a future championship offing opposite incumbent middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya

“You can see me back on top in 2023,” Nick Diaz said at Crazy Horse 3 in Las Vegas over the weekend. “I’m going to be quicker than ever, stronger than ever, better than ever – I’m just gonna be a whole new me. Whoever is on top at the time [I want], preferably Israel Adesanya.

Derrick Lewis signs new 8 fight deal to stay in the UFC

It seems that UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis has resigned with the UFC after short-lived time as a free agent.

Two weeks ago, Lewis snapped the worst run of his career, a three-fight losing streak, on the main card UFC 291. The 38-year-old would and a sensational flying knee against Marcos Rogerio de Lima, dropping the Brazilian before following up with ground and pound – ultimately the referee waved the fight off after just 33 second.

Following the win, and his comical celebration, Lewis announced on the mic that he was now a free agent but hoped of resigning with the promotion.

“I’m a free agent now,” Lewis said in the cage. “Hopefully, I can get another contract with the UFC.”

Lewis followed up with a similar sentiment at the post-fight press conference before taking a shot at the media members.

“I’m hoping to stay here in the UFC, I like it here. I like the staff,” Lewis said. “Everybody’s cool here except for the media.”

Derrick Lewis resigns with UFC

In a story first reported by The Mac Life’s Oscar Willis, it now seems that Lewis has in fact reigned with the UFC.

‘Derrick Lewis has re-signed an 8-fight deal with the UFC, per Dana White/Hunter Campbell.’- Oscar Willis.

Following Lewis’ announcement that he was a free agent, there had been suggestions that he should pursue a fight with Francis Ngannou under the PFL banner. The pair fought back in 2018, in what is widely regarded as one of the worst fights in the promotion’s history.

There is also the finical aspect as after signing his monumental deal with the PFL, it was revealed that any of Ngannou’s opponents were to earn it least one million dollars.

Is it a good move for Derrick Lewis to resign with the UFC?

Marcos Rogerio de Lima horrific injuries after UFC 291 loss to Derrick Lewis my teeth are loose

UFC heavyweight Marcos Rogerio de Lima details the damage he suffered following his knockout loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC 291.

Lima was on the receiving end of an explosive performance by Lewis, who holds the record for most knockouts in UFC history. In the bouts opening seconds, ‘The Black Beast’ would land a flying knee that would drop Lima before he would be finished with an onslaught of ground and pound

While Lima stood while Lewis’ win would be made official by Bruce Buffer, with no significant cuts or lumps – the Brazilian walked away with some serious damage done.

Marcos Rogerio de Lima reveals significant injuries suffered at UFC 291

Talking to Super Lutas, Marcos Rogerio de Lima discussed the injuries he suffered and how it has impacted his day-to-day life.

There’s a lot of people sending me messages, emails,” Marcos Rogerio de Lima said. “I’ve never received that many messages. I lost one fight and instead of supporting me, people from my country, my fans, are bothering me. I took a hard knee. My teeth are all loose. I can’t eat properly. It’s a hard moment. Let’s support our fighters and motivate them (H/T MMANews)

Lima, who has been fighting in the UFC for going on a decade, came into the bout on a nice 4-1 run in his last five. While this opportunity to break into the top 10 didn’t go to plan, Lima has proven himself a competent heavyweight and still remains ranked No.15.

Lima did not give a time frame on how long it will take to fully recover from his injuries.

As for Lewis, the fan favourite successfully ended a three-fight losing streak, which all came by stoppage. Lewis came in looking in great shape and seemed to have an extra level of motivation heading into to the fight. The 38-year-old is now a free agent and has set himself up nicely to get some big fights, and hopefully big money, in or outside of the UFC.

What should Marcos Rogerio de Lima do next?
