UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor got his revenge on bitter rival Nate Diaz this past weekend (August 20, 2016) in Las Vegas, scoring a majority decision victory over the Stockton native in the main event of UFC 202. After shockingly being submitted by Diaz last March, McGregor had made it clear that he had made adjustments within his training camp. One of his most notable adjustments was bringing in high level Brazilian jiu-jitsu player Dillon Danis.

After the event on Saturday night, Diaz actually called out Danis for some reason, saying that the grappler was on his ‘hit list’. Danis responded on today’s (August 22, 2016) edition of The MMA Hour, saying that he’d be open to an MMA fight with Diaz:

“I don’t know what that means, I’m on his hit list,” Danis said. “But if he wants to do MMA, I’ll fight him in MMA if he wants. He can do a CM Punk with me and bring me into the UFC. He can be my first fight. I’ll fight him in a couple months, whatever he wants to do.”

Danis admitted that he previously had respect for Diaz, but the Stockton Bad Boy has since made it personal. The BJJ black belt once again said that he’d fight Diaz ‘tomorrow’:

“I had a lot of respect for Nate Diaz,” Danis said. “I went to shake his hand after the fight, he wouldn’t shake my hand. He was saying things. This is the fight game. After the fight, emotions are high. But c’mon man. I did nothing to him. I don’t understand. But now he wants to make it personal. If he wants to fight, that’s fine. I don’t understand where that came from.”

“Any kind of combat he wants to do, I’m ready to step in there with him,” Danis said. “Whatever he wants. No problem. MMA? It doesn’t matter to me. I’ll fight him in MMA tomorrow.”

Danis has yet to compete in an MMA fight to date.

When looking at what went wrong for Conor McGregor in his first fight with Nate Diaz at March 5, 2016’s UFC 196, many would likely agree that he had a significant disadvantage in the grappling department and that he gassed as the fight went on which led to him being submitted in the second round of their main event bout. With that being said, it’s no surprise that McGregor has been working diligently on his jiu-jitsu and his conditioning ahead of his highly-anticipated rematch with Diaz set for this Saturday’s (August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from Las Vegas, Nevada. What is surprising, however, is that the “Notorious” one feels as if he ‘dominated’ the grappling exchanges with Diaz up until he ate a left hand and his gas tank depleted:

“There’s no questioning he’s a skilled fighter, but I feel that in all of the grappling exchanges up until after that left hand landed and my tank just emptied, I won all the grappling exchanges,” McGregor said. “He caught that kick, took me down. I swept him, controlled him on top. All the situations against the fence, he was reversed. I felt I dominated every grappling exchange up until his left hand landed and my tank was gone.” McGregor said on last night’s (August 17, 2016) edition of UFC Tonight.

Despite the bad blood between the two, McGregor noted Diaz’s ‘high level’ skillset, but once again admitted that he’s ‘confident’ in his jiu-jitsu heading into UFC 202’s headliner:

“But make no mistake, there was skill involved in that positioning to mount and the guillotine in the shot,” McGregor said of Diaz’ reversal. “There was high-level stuff going on in there, but I’m confident in my jiu-jitsu as well.”

McGregor has brought in world class grappling guru Dillon Danis in preparation for the rematch with Diaz, but will that be enough to take out the Stockton Bad Boy?

It looks like Conor McGregor is starting to bring in some special training partners to prepare him for his upcoming 170-pound rematch with Nate Diaz.

Dillon Danis, a jiu-jitsu black belt under the highly regarded Marcelo Garcia, was apparently brought in by McGregor to help him work on his ground game ahead of his August rematch against Diaz, the first man to ever beat him inside the Octagon.

Danis told FloGrappling.com the following about working with McGregor for his rematch with Diaz:

“We’ve been in contact for a while and the time was just right. He’s one of my idols and you don’t pass up opportunities like this. He has one of the greatest minds and skill sets ever in the sport.”
