“It’s the worst case of domestic abuse I’ve ever seen,” police officer Richard Harvey said.
Harvey said the victim, Kaitlin Grispi, was mauled by Grispi’s pit bull, which had been trained to attack her. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but was later released and has been reunited with her two young children.

After originally being arrested and released last Friday on $2,000 bail for the initial assault, Grispi was arrested again yesterday (while “his 3-year-old was sitting next to a box of guns and ammunition when police arrived,” BTW) and had his bail revoked. According to the article, Grispi is currently being held in the Plymouth House of Correction but pleaded innocent to all charges.
This is normally the point in the article where I’d give you a rundown of Grispi’s professional career over the past few years, but f*ck this piece of sh*t. If these charges have any truth to them, I hope they hang him by his toes and skin him alive. Or better yet, give him the old Django Unchained dog treatment. Seems fitting.

As news10.net reports, Sacramento D.A. spokesperson Shelly Orio said “the victim suffered a life-threatening laceration to her pancreas, eight broken ribs, a punctured lung, an orbital fracture and two lumbar fractures.” Uscola’s sentencing is scheduled for February 14th, and he faces the possibility of up to 13 years in prison.
The report describes Uscola as a “rising star in the MMA world,” which couldn’t be further from the truth. Perhaps best known for his unsuccessful stint on TUF 11 — during which he almost got his dick bitten off by a pitbull (long story) — Uscola has lost eight straight fights since November 2010. His professional record stands at 21-24, and he’s never won more than three fights in a row.

MMA superstar Urijah “The California Kid” Faber knew Uscola well. Uscola joined Faber’s Team Alpha Male in 2008, hoping to break into the UFC.
“He said ‘hey, I’m messing up. I want to get my head straight,’” Faber recounted. “And he knows we run a clean operation here.”
Faber took a chance on him. Uscola eventually landed a role on the reality show The Ultimate Fighter and seemed poised to turn his life around.
But when Uscola was arrested for domestic violence in 2011, Faber cut ties with him.
“As soon as the first incident happened, Kyacey was no longer allowed to be a part of the team,” Faber explained.
According to Faber, Uscola had a bit of a temper and addiction issues. But he’d hoped Uscola would get his act together once his son was born.
“He came in; he seemed to be on track for a little bit. But I think he has those demons,” Faber added. “It was really heartbreaking to hear. Kyacey has to be a man for what he’s done.”

A reporter from SciFighting.com was on the scene and passed along details from the hearing, which apparently didn’t go so well for Miller. Here are some highlights…
– “As Miller was brought into the defendant’s cage, he looked wildly around the nearly vacant room with eyes full of confusion. His defense attorney approached him, and Mayhem stressed to her ‘I need to get out tonight, it’s imperative.’ Immediately following the interaction, his hands were photographed to show where his girlfriend allegedly bit him and took off large pieces of his skin.”

Three different Twitter posts made by Jason were acknowledged as threatening to the victim, the first being ‘IF YOU ARE READING THIS WITH FEAR IN YOUR HEART, MAYBE’LL KILL YOU’ His twitter name is cited as ‘Maybe,’ and the defense stated that this could be directed at anybody, including Dana White (whom the court referred to as the ‘President of the WWF’). His second and third posts were ‘SOME PEOPLE PREFER PRISONERS OVER PARTNERS. IF THEY CAN’T HAVE YOU, NO ONE CAN. CAN’T KILL MAYBE’ and one simply stating ‘DIE DIE DIE’.”
– “To end the proceedings, the District Attorney and Judge Manssourian stated that Miller’s tweets deem him a threat to society, to which Mayhem loudly replied ‘Judge, I am an artist!’ He was quickly silenced by his defense attorney. The court placed a protective order on Ana Pricilla, and banned Jason Miller from owning firearms.”
Miller’s bail was re-set at $100,000 after the charges from his two August arrests were combined into one case. His pre-trial is scheduled for this Friday, August 30th, and his preliminary hearing is slated for September 9th.

RABBLE! RABBLE!!” some of you have angrily typed, and to some extent I agree with you. But the fact remains that Miller is a twelve year MMA veteran, an oft entertaining, oft frustrating, but always intriguing figure who has given his heart and soul to the sport we love. Unfortunately, it appears that Miller’s mind was lost somewhere along the way as well.

Clearly, Miller crossed the line between flamboyant martial artist and cartoon character who occasionally fights some time ago, and it appears that there is no turning back for him. It’s a realization that makes the news of his most recent domestic assault charge all the more infuriating. Miller’s coaching stint on TUF 14 proved that he is, or perhaps was, a mostly harmless manchild capable of intelligent thought and human decency (unlike say War Machine). His recent actions, however, have argued quite the contrary.

On Saturday, August 10, 2013, Sheriff’s personnel were advised by a caller that she was the victim of domestic violence that occurred on Saturday, August 3, 2013, in Mission Viejo.
Deputy C. Martin responded at approximately 1336 hours to the alleged victim’s location. The alleged victim reported that at approximately 2100 hours on Saturday, August 3, 2013, she and Jason Nicholas Miller were involved in an argument regarding a text message she found on Miller’s cellular phone. Deputies were unable to make contact with Miller on August 10th to obtain his statement.
On Sunday, August 11, 2013, at about 0530 hours, deputies were dispatched to a residence in Mission Viejo reference at loud party. When they arrived, they contacted Miller who was outside his residence yelling at his neighbors. Based on the report filed by the alleged victim, Miller was arrested for CPC 273.5, domestic violence.
Injuries to the alleged victim include multiple bruises covering both arms and both legs, laceration and bleeding above right eyebrow (approx. 1.5″ wide), and laceration to the right side of face (approx. 1.5″ wide). No property or weapons involved.
As we discussed with Bec Hyatt’s story of overcoming domestic violence, there is simply no excuse for what Miller did (if it turns out that he was actually responsible). Domestic violence is a hideous, shameful offense that needs to be immediately addressed and rebuked, especially when it is being dished out by a professional fighter.
Despite all his recent troubles, we truly hope that Miller can find some form of rehabilitation, be it incarceration or otherwise, to help pull him out of the darkness he currently resides in. But more than anything, we hope that the victim of Miller’s most recent outburst fully recovers from her injuries and receives the justice she so deserves.

Although reasons were not specified, Bec promised to continue “dishing out ridiculously stylish violence,” and we assumed that she would be no worse for the wear. That was until recently, however, when Bec again took to Facebook to pass along a “horrible/embarrassing story of my personal life…in the hopes that others may be inspired to share their stories.”

Bec Hyatt is more then a fighter, she is also a survivor of domestic violence.
This is her story, written by her in the hopes that others may be inspired to share their stories or use it as inspiration to get out of the horror of domestic violence and live the happy lives away from fear that they deserve.
It probably seems like a little bit of a contradiction that the past three years have been the best and at the same time, the worst time of my life. I’ve heard before that it’s the journey that shapes someone and not necessarily the destination. I wouldn’t give up where I am in life at the moment for anything but sometimes I wish that the journey I took to get here was a little different.
It was January 2010 when I started training. I’d just gotten out of a bad relationship and needed to do something for myself, so I began kickboxing as I was desperate to lose weight and begin the new chapter of my life with my son Zake who was 18 months old at the time. This is where I met Dan Hyatt, he showed me a lot of attention and went out of his way to hold pads and train me, it was nice to have that little bit of extra attention.
This friendship soon led to more and before I knew it we were in a relationship. At first he was very kind and caring. He would tell me that I was beautiful and deserved to be treated right and that my ex didn’t deserve me for the way he had treated me. We would do everything together, I felt safe and happy for the first time in a while.
Two months had passed and I started seeing a side to Dan that I didn’t like. He would lash out saying harsh things about Zake, saying he didn’t like the kid because he reminded him of Zake’s father. That’s when the arguments began.
Another month passed and I fell pregnant. Dan was happy and so was I, but now I see why Dan was happy. He had his power now. He owned me because no way would I leave him to be a single mum of two. He would remind me of that and tell me that no one would want me. He would tell me that I have “two kids to two different dads” and I “should be thankful that he wants me”. He would say that I’m “used and abused” and that I was “damaged goods”.
This is when he started to abuse me physically. We would have arguments over Zake and he would shove me into walls, hold me down and smother me with pillows, he would spit on me and pour things like milk and tomato sauce on my head, this wasn’t the worst of it and there is so much more that I had to deal with. He literally made me feel like the dirt on the bottom of his shoe. Sometimes he would break down in tears and apologize saying he “didn’t wanna do it but he had no choice – that I have given him no choice”.
He made it out as if it was my fault he’d hit me, if I “wasn’t so tarnished he wouldn’t feel resentment like he did and he wouldn’t have to hurt me”.
The worst thing was that I believed him. It was my fault and I deserved to be hit and spat on, I thought that I couldn’t leave and that nobody would ever want me. He had me believing that I really was “used goods”.
Fast forward a year and I had given birth to Enson. We had gotten married and moved to Queensland because Dan got kicked out of his gym for hitting me in front of his coach. I still can’t believe I went ahead with the marriage and moved my whole life to Queensland after everything he had done to me. I just kept telling myself “everything will be okay up here and we will have a clean slate, a fresh start,” and the reminders of my old life as well as Zake’s dad will be gone so he won’t hurt me anymore. I was wrong though, and the abuse got worse.
I was isolated; there were no family or friends to see the bruises except our housemate Mitch who acted like a social worker most of the time, trying to convince Dan to calm down and not to hurt me. Mitch was only a kid so when Dan did get out of control he couldn’t do anything except hide the kids from it.
The abuse would get more extreme; he would kick me, pin me down and elbow me, grind his elbow down my face and choke me unconscious. This is when I got serious about training.
I used my training as my escape; I could finally be me and forget about everything at home. I had my debut fight six months later, training twice a day, breastfeeding and having absolutely ZERO help from Dan. Looking back, this camp was by far the hardest that I have ever had. I had to fight to escape him to prove I can do something with my life, to prove I was worth something!
I got knocked out in the first round and to have my husband walk straight past my unconscious body on the ground to congratulate my opponent was the last straw for me. My love for him was dying and my need for him along with it. But in an almost clichéd fashion, I hung around in hope that he’d change.
He didn’t.
He just found new ways to hurt me and control me. One day I finally called the police and left for a week. I came back with a DVO in place hoping I had woken him up. But he just found new ways to hurt me. He knew if he physically hurt me he’d go to jail so he would destroy the things I loved and things that we needed. The carpets were destroyed with cordial, the walls kicked in, the couches slashed, my clothes bleached and cut up, and the list goes on.
A day like Mothers Day is when we, as mothers are supposed to be recognized for doing what many feel is the most important job in the world. I’m not sure if that was a part of why things went the way they did but on Mothers Day in 2013 it was when I finally got the courage to leave. I packed the kiddies into the car and went to my mums. When Dan woke to find us gone – the house, my clothes and furniture were all destroyed, he moved to Tassie and I was left with no home, no furniture and no clothes. I was left to pick up the pieces once again.
I knew that this was the last time I’d ever go through that. I just wish I had of got the courage to leave sooner. What the boys have seen and heard can never be erased from such innocent minds. I can only hope I teach them what is right and wrong and they never grow up to follow in his footsteps.
Because of Dan I have to learn how to love and learn how to be loved again. I don’t know if I’ll ever be the same, but I will be okay, I’ll fight another day.

Now, the reason we are passing along this story is not purely to suggest that you and a group of angry villagers (preferably the pitchfork-carrying type) find Dan Hyatt, tar and feather him and exile him to the darkest, dankest cave in all of Queensland, but to point out the shocking rate at which this scenarioseems play out (on both sides of the coin) in the world of mixed martial arts.
At the risk of providing the Culinary Union with more ammo for their propoganda attacks on the UFC, domestic violence is an underreported issue that needs to be immediately called out when it leaks into our sport. The reason we say this is that a similar situation could potentially be developing between Miesha Tate and her boyfriend/coach/manager, noted douchebag Bryan Caraway. At least, that’s according to Ronda Rousey, based on her experience working alongside Tate on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Rousey recently held a Google hangout with several members of the MMA media, during which, she instigated that Tate might be suffering from a similar (albeit less violent) form of domestic abuse/control in her own relationship:
I don’t think [Tate] really has terrible juju, but her boyfriend has terrible juju.
I think what bothers me most about her is she’s kind of a very weak, suggestible and malleable person. Whoever she’s around, you can tell. I really believe you’re the average of the five people you hang around the most, and I think that Cara-douche takes up her top-five. Like, all of her top-five. It’s just, it’s not healthy. It’s not. He’s her coach, he’s her manager, he’s her boyfriend. There’s a lot of control that that guy has over her life, and I think that her lack of individualism and her complete dependence on him is what really irks about her the most. She’s a strong woman, she should act like it.
While Rousey is about as far from an unbiased observer as one can be in this situation, she also has incurred the wrath of Caraway in the past, who once threatened to “knock her teeth down her throat” on Twitter. Considering the rumors that Caraway also elbowed Cat Zingano in the head (possibly at Miesha’s request) before her scrap with Tate at the TUF 17 Finale, it’s not like Rousey’s observations are completely unfounded either.
At the end of the day, what may or may not be transpiring between Tate and Caraway behind closed doors is none of our business. Until the day it becomes our business. And for the sake of women like Hyatt and Tate, we’d rather it came before too much damage is done.

I’m no The Mentalist (although I often get confused for him on the street. YOU DON’T KNOW.), but I always saw light heavyweight contender Phil Davis as a kind of introverted, dare I say “nerdy” guy who happens to be a freakishly gifted athlete. Despite the fact that he, you know, chokes dudes unconscious for a living, “Mr. Wonderful” always came off (to me, at least) as a guy who was ultimately harmless when he wasn’t locked in a cage with a dude trying to beat him within an inch of his life.
Well once again, it appears that I don’t know shit about shit. Just one day out from his UFC 159 battle with Vinny Magalhaes, Davis not only finds himself in the middle of a custody battle over his child, but refuting allegations of “crazy brutality, including violent sex” that said child’s mother believes stemmed from his martial arts career. TMZ reports:
According to legal docs — obtained by TMZ — Vantris Patterson claims Davis body slammed her on a couch with such force … when the couch slid into the wall paint came off. And Patterson says, Davis — aka Mr. Wonderful — would often choke her during intercourse, and when she’d plead with him to stop he’d respond, “Shut the f*** up, bitch.” She says Davis has threatened to kill her numerous times if she ever slept with another man.

I’m no The Mentalist (although I often get confused for him on the street. YOU DON’T KNOW.), but I always saw light heavyweight contender Phil Davis as a kind of introverted, dare I say “nerdy” guy who happens to be a freakishly gifted athlete. Despite the fact that he, you know, chokes dudes unconscious for a living, “Mr. Wonderful” always came off (to me, at least) as a guy who was ultimately harmless when he wasn’t locked in a cage with a dude trying to beat him within an inch of his life.
Well once again, it appears that I don’t know shit about shit. Just one day out from his UFC 159 battle with Vinny Magalhaes, Davis not only finds himself in the middle of a custody battle over his child, but refuting allegations of “crazy brutality, including violent sex” that said child’s mother believes stemmed from his martial arts career. TMZ reports:
According to legal docs — obtained by TMZ — Vantris Patterson claims Davis body slammed her on a couch with such force … when the couch slid into the wall paint came off. And Patterson says, Davis — aka Mr. Wonderful — would often choke her during intercourse, and when she’d plead with him to stop he’d respond, “Shut the f*** up, bitch.” She says Davis has threatened to kill her numerous times if she ever slept with another man.

Davis makes his own claims … that Patterson is the violent one who put a pic of a Glock up on Facebook and wrote, “… His day will come.” He also says she texted him, “I can’t wait until the day you die so I can spit in ur face [painful and slow].”
It would be pretty obvious to start making comparisons between Davis and Brett Rogers here, but it should be noted that Davis hasn’t actually been charged with anything as of this write up. What could potentially play a factor in these “violent sex” allegations, however, is the fact that Davis is a blue belt under Lloyd Irvin. Yes, that Lloyd Irvin.
We’re not saying this tenuous connection proves Davis’ guilt in the matter, but at the same time, the influential ability of a coach is not something that should be taken lightly (ask anyone’s who ever played football under Mike Ditka) and given all the allegations being aimed at Irvin and his students in recent months, it’s a connection that will most surely come to surface in the couple’s custody battle on May 7th in San Diego. God damn it, did I just unintentionally provide the Culinary Union with another article to pull out-of-context quotes from? My bad, you guys.
As for how this will possibly affect Davis’ performance against Magalhaes tomorrow, well, I’ve already been pretty clear on that.
