MMA Fighter Donovan Salvato

MMA fighter Donovan Salvato spent the better part of 12 hours in jail after allegedly biting his roommate’s testicles, leaving a 2.5-inch bite mark.

On Nov. 11, Salvato allegedly assaulted his roommate, Abel Sosa. According to the police report, Salvato went to jail on Nov. 16 and spent around 12 hours there. The 29-year-old MMA fighter sat in the Metro Nashville Jail following the argument that turned violent.

Police documented a 2.5-inch laceration on Mr. Sosa’s scrotum upon examination. Additionally, local authorities revealed bruises and swelling to Sosa’s head. Salvato was held on a domestic violence hold after the incident took place. However, the MMA fighter has since been charged with domestic assault and bodily injury.

According to Sosa, the altercation is a result of an ongoing argument that has yet to be resolved. The arrest warrant and affidavit reveal the conflict orbited around the defendant (Salvato) staying at the roommate’s address unwanted. When law enforcement arrived, the MMA fighter had already fled the scene. The police report indicates that the officer on duty believed Salvato was the primary aggressor.

“I need to write a book or something about some of these stories I’ve encountered. Who can clearly say they got their testicles Bit by a professional MMA fighter during a fight? I’ll wait…. Nashville can be so wild that I’ve encountered more danger here than overseas to an extent.” Abel Sosa shared.

Sosa maintains that Salvato’s name is not in the lease agreement. Following the chaos in Nashville TN., Sosa seemed to be in good spirits despite the trauma he’s gone through.

Do you think 12 hours for biting testicles is a sufficient sentence?

Domestic Violence Warrant Forthcoming For Andrea Lee’s Husband

Some big trouble could be coming for Andrea Lee’s husband.

The post Domestic Violence Warrant Forthcoming For Andrea Lee’s Husband appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

UFC fighter Andrea Lee’s husband is in trouble again – and this time it’s much more serious.

Donny Aaron will face an arrest warrant on charges of false imprisonment and domestic violence battery. The incident allegedly happened late on August 4 and into August 5. The warrant was first confirmed by MyMMANews.com.

The Shreveport PD confirmed the “forthcoming” warrant to MMA Fighting. Spokesperson Cpl. Angie Willhite said the warrant would soon be issued today. The police incident report clarified that officers responded to a domestic incident involving two people who have been legally married with one child. Photographs of the incident were taken in order to chronicle the alleged attack.

The alleged incident resulted in Lee reportedly suffering an injury. The attack also allegedly involved a weapon.

MMA fighter Andy Nguyen lives with Aaron and Lee and was concerned because of a pattern of abuse. She issued a statement online detailing her experience. Nguyen confirmed she called the police after witnessing the incident. Aaron allegedly tried to choke Lee and burn her arm with a cigarette. Lee allegedly tried to escape into their daughter’s room after that. Nguyen said that Aaron’s father attempted to intervene.

She described a scene where Aaron was allegedly violent due to drugs:

“I opened up the door and was like ‘Donny, leave her alone. He looked like he was lost. He hadn’t slept in two days, he was drinking for two ******* days straight. I don’t know what he is on.

“I’m backing up as he is coming towards me. Andrea was buttoning up her shorts and she was barefoot and ran out the back door.”

New Incident

Nguyen went on to detail her surprise at the incident. She also described the extent of Lee’s injuries

Violence had been going on for years, she said, but she had never seen it:

“He was trying to choke her, but she was defending herself well. She didn’t get beat up bad. The police did take pictures of marks on her neck. Wasn’t bad this time. No black eyes or anything but he has hit her before. I just wasn’t there. He was my coach and my friend. This was the first time this was in [my] presence and I was not going to let this fly.

“The domestic violence has been going on for years. I just never saw it. I didn’t call the cops until it got physical and I couldn’t do nothing anymore,”

Nguyen said she couldn’t lose another friend to domestic violence on social media:

The Controversy Rages On

Aaron previously came under fire for his controversial tattoos involving Nazi symbols earlier this year. Lee was quick to vehemently defend her husband, but this is a bad look because of the alleged violence. He apologized profusely on social media yet refused to get his offensive tattoos covered or removed nonetheless.

Aaron is a multi-time offender who has spent time in prison. He was found guilty in 2009 of negligent homicide with a firearm after shooting a man, Ronald Jamison, and killing him. Aaron was arrested on a battery charge after allegedly another man while awaiting trial for the negligent homicide in 2007. Aaron was arrested for possession of drugs this February.

Lee is a promising young contender in the UFC women’s flyweight division thanks to her dangerous striking. The former kickboxing champion made her UFC debut in Chile this May, defeating Veronica Macedo.

VIDEO: Christy Mack Breaks Down While Detailing War Machine Assault on HBO’s ‘Real Sports’

Even the most diehard defender of all tings MMA will tell you that it’s become increasingly difficult to overlook the disturbing relationship (for lack of a better term) between those who compete in the sport professionally and domestic violence. It’s not that domestic violence isn’t a saddeningly regular occurrence across the board in professional sports, it’s that most sports don’t train their athletes to become trained killing machines in addition to hulking physical specimens, and as such, hearing of the atrocities that guys like Travis Browne, Anthony Johnson, and Thiago Silva have been linked to tends to perpetuate the stereotype about the sport and its fans tenfold.

So when it was announced that HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel would be airing a feature-length investigation into “domestic violence in MMA” centering around War Machine’s abuse of Christy Mack, our reaction here at Castle CagePotato went something like this…

Details on the upcoming special/more clips of BG throwing up are after the jump.

So when it was announced that HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel would be airing a feature-length investigation into “domestic violence in MMA” centering around War Machine’s abuse of Christy Mack, our reaction here at Castle CagePotato went something like this…

Which was then followed by this…

Because despite its increasing popularity and fancy apparel deals, MMA is very much still struggling to gain mainstream acceptance as “legitimate” sport, so the idea that an audience as large as HBO’s would be given a window into the sport through one of its most despicable figures is a sickening prospect to say the least.

Of course, this recently released preview of the special, in which Christy Mack details the night War Machine nearly beat her and her friend to death, is quite possibly the only thing more sickening.

Ugh. There is just no way that our sport comes out looking even remotely good after this, is there?

But then again, maybe this special will serve as the intervention that MMA has long needed regarding its fighters and violence outside of the cage. One needs to look no further than the UFC’s treatment of the Thiago Silva situation (or the Anthony Johnson situation, or the Jeremy Stephens one…) to see that a higher system of accountability needs to be established regarding domestic violence not just in MMA, but in all sports. In short, we are providing wingnut organizations like the Culinary Union with all the ammo they need to continue their war against MMA through sheer inconsistency and stupidity, and HBO is about to lay bare those inconsistencies for the world to see.

Real Sports debuts Tuesday, July 21 at 10pm ET on HBO. The official description for the episode is as follows.

Outside of the Cage. Last summer, just as news of Baltimore running back Ray Rice’s violent assault on his fiancée in a hotel elevator was about to make headlines, a far more brutal domestic violence attack involving a pro athlete had just taken place. But the beating that nearly killed former adult film star Christy Mack, allegedly at the hands of the MMA welterweight known as War Machine, flew largely under the radar.

High-profile sports like football and boxing, the father of all fight sports, have long dealt with athletes’ domestic violence toward women. But the newly minted American combat sport Mixed Martial Arts, which showcases the world’s most violent athletes, has largely escaped mainstream scrutiny of its fighters’ conduct. REAL SPORTS correspondent David Scott investigates domestic violence among pro MMA fighters and efforts by MMA organizations to address it, and talks to Christy Mack, who for the first time tells the harrowing story of what she says was an abusive relationship with a trained professional fighter and the assault that nearly took her life.

We now go to former CP managing editor, Ben Goldstein, for an official response…

UFC Lifts Suspension of Anthony Johnson, After Domestic Abuse-Related Civil Case Is Dismissed

(Photo via Getty)

Seven weeks after Anthony Johnson was indefinitely suspended by the UFC following accusations of abuse and intimidation from the mother of two of his children, the UFC light-heavyweight contender has been cleared to compete again. The UFC broke the news earlier today in an announcement on UFC.com, explaining that the accuser had dropped her complaint. Here’s the full statement:

The person who filed a civil temporary protection order against UFC contender Anthony Johnson last September voluntarily dismissed their complaint last week in the Florida Circuit Court. Before granting a dismissal of the case, the presiding judge independently questioned the alleging party regarding their voluntary intentions, and thereafter the judge dismissed the entire matter.

The dismissal of the case, along with an independent investigation that was commissioned by the UFC organization, brings closure to this matter for Johnson and allows him to return to competition in the UFC. As a result, UFC officials are exploring options for Johnson’s next fight to take place early next year.

The UFC organization will not tolerate domestic violence, sexual assault or any other violation of its Code of Conduct. The organization is committed to thoroughly investigating all allegations and taking the appropriate action when warranted.

Let us repeat: “The UFC organization will not tolerate domestic violence, sexual assault or any other violation of its Code of Conduct.” Really. It seems like a good time to remind you that three women have accused Anthony Johnson of roughing them up since 2009 in eerily similar episodes, and Johnson did in fact plead “nolo contendere” to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence in 2010, after allegedly slamming a woman to the ground and dragging her up a flight of stairs in a headlock. Johnson was on the UFC roster as a welterweight back then, but I suppose he gets off on a technicality because the Code of Conduct didn’t exist back then?

Also, this and this and this and this. But whatever. RUMBLE vs. GUSTAFSSON, WHO YA GOT???

Another Ex-Girlfriend of Anthony Johnson Accused Him of Battery in March, Police Report Reveals

(Photo via Getty)

As we previously reported, UFC light-heavyweight Anthony Johnson is currently on an indefinite suspension, following allegations that he brutally assaulted the mother of two of his children at her place of employment in 2012, then talked her out of pressing charges; the victim claims she has been receiving threatening calls and text messages since then. This followed a separate incident in 2009, in which Johnson roughed up a different woman and eventually pleaded nolo contendere to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.

Unfortunately, Johnson’s history of abuse doesn’t end there. According to a police report first unearthed by MMAJunkie, another ex-girlfriend of the UFC fighter claimed that Johnson assaulted her at her place of employment. Via Junkie:

On March 19, the woman called police to get Johnson to leave her place of employment, Park’s Taekwondo. According to the probable cause affidavit, she did not give a full account of the incident until the next day, when a teacher from the taekwondo school called police to document a text message he said he received from Johnson. The woman told police then that Johnson had showed up unannounced at Park’s Taekwondo on 15 separate occasions in the three months she had worked there, even though their sexual relationship ended in 2012.

The woman said Johnson knew she was working alone March 19. She said he demanded to speak with her, grabbed her shirt behind the neck, lifted her up from the chair by her shirt and grabbed her right arm. She showed the investigator “bruising on her right forearm and a reddish scratch mark near her right collarbone.” She told police she asked Johnson to leave several times, but he did not until police arrived.

BloodyElbow adds some more details:

Also documented is what the police call an apparent “pattern of stalking,” which, along with battery charges were to be filed through the State Attorney Office. However, the woman requested that the charges be dropped. The case supplemental report states that the victim “stated she no longer wished to pursue charges for battery or stalking and only wanted these incidents documented.”

Oh, so the victim no longer wanted to cooperate and the charges were dropped? Re-sign this man immediately! Ugh. The worst part about this new development is how similar the accusations are to the previous accusations made against Johnson. Just like in the 2012 incident, Johnson (allegedly) showed up to an ex-girlfriend’s job and put his hands on her, and also exhibited stalking behavior. And just like the 2009 case, Johnson’s seems to enjoy yanking women off the ground as a method of intimidation.

Of course, Johnson will never answer to these charges in a court of law. The only punishment he might receive is the permanent loss of his UFC contract, which seems likely at this point. We’ll update you if and when the UFC releases an official statement.
